Lots of guides for learning to run LoZ.

Others have starting running the game off the level 2 "easy" route.  When I picked it up, I went for the level 3 route, which is the fastest route available.  I have a guide for that.  http://www.twitch.tv/darkwing_duck_sda/c/2567986

The site redcandle.us also has some guides.  I know PresJPolk and Jkoper (Snorlax here) have done guides because I think they feel my guide was too advanced for a newcomer to the game.  The fastest route for any% without screen scrolling is essentially the same as the current any% route.  My first published run for Zelda on SDA was without screen scrolling.  You can see it here:  http://www.twitch.tv/darkwing_duck_sda/c/917734.  If you do not want to open the door in level 1, you would have to get another key, probably the key in the left hand door upon entering level 1.  Aside from those two things, the only real change is you'd get the white sword, while in any%, you don't.

HELLO!
This game doesn't really have any major glitches.

It has the level 1 key thing, it has the clipping tricks, but that's it. There are no major skips. We can't even skip the hungry molblin.

Nothing to support a new category.  Deathless/No up-a is really the only alternate category for SDA I could see, beyond the basic 100% (once defined, and it sounds like we have at least three now whoa gree with the definition above) and Any%/Up-A.

Thanks guys, this really helps. One question, what is up + a?

HELLO!
if you pause and press up+a on controller 2 it's an instant game over. It's useful for warping around.  It's not the category Darkwing runs, though.
Mustachioed Muscleman
ok thanks!

Though what are you defining as 'glitchless'?

I was actually going to ask you guys about glitches I should list. I don't know very many.
I will be working on this route, this is simply a base to work on. I will be looking into skeleton key early and not getting blue ring and stuff like that.
Thanks for the opinions, I understand that its not an alluring category, but I enjoy running it, and thought maybe someone else would to. Smiley
EDIT: I'd also like to mention, I'm completely new to speedrunning LoZ.

I don't think getting the blue ring should count, cause at end game, its replaced with the Red Ring. I may of missed something about that above. Everything else though seems alright. Bomb upgrades should count. The upgraded shield is debatable really. Its not included in the inventory but can be lost.
HELLO!
Blue ring doesn't. Shield doesn't.  It's not included in the inventory *and* can be lost.

Very helpful guide, thanks for taking the time for that. *high five*
HELLO!
I've tried to gather up info here:

http://redcandle.us/The_Legend_of_Zelda/
I am sure I am over looking it, but what would a good time be for a 100% run of what has been stated above. No screen scrolling of course. Any% is a lot more fun to run, but unless you are a god at screen scrolling the record is pretty much untouchable. lol

HELLO!
To start with I'd shoot for sub-hour, then sub-45.

Darkwing got a 42:59 on a casualish run of this 100%/Dumb% definition, though he used screen scrolling some.  Probably not an optimized route though.

Ive been around 50 the last few runs with no scrolling. Recorded a 55. I know that wouldn't be accepted as there are way too many mistakes. Sure I can grind out sub-45 eventually. Thanks for the info man

HELLO!
No run without screen scrolling is going to be SDA accepted.  When Darkwing proved it was doable in live runs it wasn't put into its own category.

Its doable yes. Guess it just takes a certain touch to do it. Ive followed the instructions over and over and I guess I need to try and run another game. It took me 20 minutes just to get it once at the start, and the block clipping. I don't understand what a pixel looks like on the screen. Everyone talks about 5-7 pixel. I can't see anything. Would playing on a CRT tv help that?

Don't give up on the screen scroll glitch.  It just takes practice to recognize the right pixels and get a one-frame tap down.  Pres's site at redcandle.us has some good pictures for reference.
HELLO!
One thing that would help is to have the *right* CRT. If your CRT cuts off too much stuff at the edge of the screen it might be hard to impossiblef or you to see where to stand.

I'll keep working on. Thanks for the support. This community lives up to its reputation of helping out. :-)
Its taken me some time, but finally got a 49 on this. I would submit it, but I don't think it would be excepted. Gotten the screen scroll and clipping down pretty well now. I know I need to be way quicker. Ive been having to play on the WiiU virtual console. I have a top loader NES, which isn't modified to AV cords, so I can't use my capture device on it. If I read correctly, that is an acceptable format right?
zzzzzzzzzz
You got a 49 on what?  I can barely imagine any category where that would be accepted.

100% Im just starting speed running man, I said above it wouldn't be accepted. In reality though, from the history of post, a 100% run isn't even a category. Gotta start somewhere right?

Wow, nice ending. Clutch all the way.

What was I doing in that wizzrobe room in 9? Geez. Getting the clock made me go after them all, cost me 15 seconds (although it kept me from having to do the clip on the way back.)
HELLO!

That is an awesome run.
