Ok my videos are uploaded to my filefront page in the San Andreas folder. I also have my segment 8 save in the folder too so you can check the stats if you so please.
Speed is everything!
Yeah downloading now Smiley

YaaaaaY! *fanatically humps*

I'll comment on all 8 as I watch them. Though, what's with the [1:35]? Usually that's the total time for the whole game, and you just plain can't finish SA in 1:35.

Segment 2: Ahah, absolutely pwned on Sweet's GIrl. Never have I seen no cars at that intersection.

Segment 3- Wow, that planning was perfect. You dropped OG Loc off right around 22:00. But in the last few seconds of the vid, the image sort of craps out.

Segment 4-Hehe, yeah, Burning Desire's a bitch. Denise NEVER follows you as well as you want her to.

Hopefully you meant *fanatically jumps*...

And about the 1:35 I was trying out the statid and 1:35 sounded like a good time since I made videos up to badlands and it took me 1:35 to get there.

I will keep the original files so I can just re-encode them with the right time.

I was gonna do what CannibalK9 did for bringing lung capacity up, but it may just be a lot easier to swim like NTG did. I will just collect 2 bribes on the way from the airport.

Everytime I get to land after swimming either I won't be able to get a four door car or magically a cop will get in my way and I will go back up to 3 stars.

I got pretty lucky with the Jizzy mission at the end I blow up the pastors car right by the China Town safehouse. So I buy that and save. This makes it so my save spot will be right next to Wu Zi Mu. This way I save after the Jizzy Mission and after the Mike Toreno Mission.

Other than that I should be at Wu Zi Mu's missions at about 2:55.

EDIT: I just realized that it may be faster to do the swimming on the Photo Opportunity mission would be to get a boat and swim by it till my lung capacity goes up twice then take a boat down the same path that NTG takes and just jump over Cesar and Jump out of the boat.

Even If I wasn't going to do the lung capacity increase part on this mission, it still may be faster and a little easier if I were to do it that way.

I think it would be best to lvl up like this.. Do Photo Oppurunity, and when you end up in badlands. you swim to San Fierro, and grab that bandito and drive to teh garage. the bandito is very fast. and another thingy about these Gold on all trainings at Learning to fly, why not just throw the sparrow in the garage at the airfield (we steal a sparrow at Interdiction....)

3d17 :

Yay, now I started my speedrun after coming up with an good idea. I skip uploading seg 1 cause its boring, just big smoke mission. Anyway, I include some text in seg 2 so you understand what you ****.  I upload it to youtube i think

That is a very good idea I never would of thought of doing that. I will definably do that and after I am done I'll be sure to add you into my comments. I can't forget about CannibalK9 either since I took the basic idea to do OG Loc after Sweet's Girl from him since it saves so much time, and several other path shortcuts.

I don't remember ever stealing a Sparrow during that mission even though I see a Sea Sparrow in the water somewhere close by, but what may be even closer would be a Skimmer except that it's a plane which may be a little harder.

Another thing. I don't even remember being able to save vehicles at the airport. I could be mistaken. But I will definably take a plane or whatever over to the airport for faster travel.

So heres what I did for the Photo Opportunity mission. I took a police bike went N and then E till I got to the dock where the Squalo is located. I drove that SE till I got to the shore right by Cesar. I drove over to Angel Pine, and did the mission. After that I got a car and drove into the water to the W. I swam N till I got to a dinghy right by the bridge drove across the gap of the bridge. Jumped out and swam till I got to the BF injection. I only had to dive down 2 more times before I got my lung capacity up and I drove the BF injection back to my garage where I saved the game.

The only thing that could of been better is if I would of jumped out of the dinghy a little it sooner but I only lost about 40 sec from diving twice.

Taking the Squalo only saves several seconds of game time but it saves my personal time since I only had to retry the segment 3 times. Most of the retries was from driving to Cesar with all the traffic on the road.

I think if you have a fcr-900/pcj 600 or a police bike you can get there very fast, i make a video soon..

I checked out your 2 videos and the first one was a good idea I had no idea that there was a copter out there. About the second video our times were really close to each others. If you wouldn't of crashed we would of got there at the same amount of time.

So the main question here is: Take a boat where theres no other drivers around to mess you up or take a bike on the roads?

Before I would get a Bullet and drive over there but for me taking a boat was 10X easier.

Thanks for all your good insights.  Grin

EDIT: I had absolutely no idea that you could store a vehicle at the airport.

'I had no idea of that you could store vechiles at the airport'

I was just like i played san andreas on my ps2 and my friend says

'You can have cars in that big garage'

and i like double-you tf?

Im gonna play more san andreas today, me and my friend are playing through Justice League Heroes.

I have another video how to get out the copter but i'am on my mothers pc right now so I cant upload it.
give me your eyes!!!
Yay, San Fierro in 1:30! I'm satisfied with it, even though I was hoping for sub that. I'm still sure it's very possible but I didn't lose much time over my segments. I suppose my next update will be after Badlands again, just so you know I'm still alive!
evil does it
Great to hear from you Cannibal, sounds like a fantastic time Cheesy
Will you post any videos at all on this run or do we have to wait until you're done?
give me your eyes!!!
Well I said I wouldn't before I started running, and there isn't that much reason to do so, what with practice segments and Snuvs providing videos. Can only have so much of a good thing.

I think I saved most time by not saving before 'Wrong Side Of The Tracks', I just did it over and over until I got lucky, took bloody ages...

Snuvs: are you planning on uploading your Badlands segments? You've gotten everything I can offer for it, and I'm interested in any of your ideas so we're both on the same footing. Although I can't see anywhere that would save a significant amount of time that doesn't involve 'playing better'.
I will upload my segments, I am almost done with San Fiero and I should be at 3 Hours plus a little.

I just watched my videos a while ago and I realized that I had big lag, not just slowing of videos, but like missing frames. I also realized that since I had changed the exe for SA so that I don't need a disc, it said that it was 1.01 and it was really 1.00. I was always wondering why it says the 1.01 patch solves the rain sound problem and it didn't. Smiley So I will restart my videos.

I also tried playing with keyboad and mouse and I found the view in driving, like having it almost straight above my car that it is way easier to drive. The one thing I changed with the controls was to have the regular W to accelerate but also my right mouse button so I can peddle on a bike easier. So I am not gonna use my gamepad anymore. So I will restart my videos.

So basically I'm restarting my videos, but I will still upload my badlands ones which were done in 40 minutes which is my best time for far.

The main thing I can say is that during my badlands missions everytime I went to or from Angel Pine I went up the mountain or jumped down it. It makes it going from Angel Pine to say catalnas only take about 1:30 mins.
give me your eyes!!!
Okay, that's great. It doesn't seem to take long to go to Catalina's but a faster way would be nice.

I sort of missed the reason for you starting your videos, does that mean we're in direct competition now?

Regardless, I was thinking of uploading my first segment, just to get some feedback on my audio commentary which I hope to do throughout the game. One of my nicknames was Silent Dan, which gives some indication on how much I like to speak, and I think I have some sort of semi-cold so it sounds a bit nasaly (doesn't sound a bit like me anyway...). Also the computer doesn't like microphones and I had to put all the volumes up to full to be able to hear it which makes things like the sound of my breathing easier to hear in places.

All that aside, It'd be nice to know what people think, and whether I should re-do the commentary, when I put it up somewhere sometime tomorrow.

I have had videos rocorded up to the jizzy missions. Anyways, since the beginning of this thread I was already wanting to do the speedrun. The videos I had recorded I was gonna use for the final run since I really didnt feel like doing them over again.

But like I said there was a few problems with lag in my videos which at first I thought encoding would fix but I noticed missing frames not just lag then speed increase.

So basically we are in competition.

I just wanted to recoup my times that I had:
Up to Badlands: 1:35
Up to San Fiero: 2:15 Total
Up to Jizzy: about 2:55.

One thing that DJS brought up that I practiced and will use for my run was to get my lung capacity up right after doing the Photo Opportunity mission. Right after getting dropped off at the gas station I go to the ocean to the west. I then swim north till I get to the beach on the other side. I then take BF Injection on the beach, after getting my lung capaicty up, and take that back to my garage and then save.

EDIT: Another thing. Since I just got done with College and got back to my house in Michigan, I will have to get a job. I also have to work out getting my computer set up with internet so it will be a while till I can show the badlands videos. (Im using my mom's comp where I don't have any of my stuff on)

Okay, good luck to us both then.

I don't quite get the lung capacity thing though (and why do you need the BF?), but hopefully I can sort something out myself before I get there.

I'm going to have to get a job too...

Here's segment 1 anyway, the audio commentary is track 2. Go easy on me!
Edit history:
Snuvs: 2007-07-15 03:32:39 pm
I get the BF cause it's a spawn on the beach so its an easy grab. One other thing that I did. I would drive North then East from the garage and get the Squalo that you picked up during your lung capacity adventures for Photo Opportunity. I bring that over to where Cesar is and it makes it an easy way of getting over there in the same amount of time that it took me driving over.

Brilliant idea with the audio commentary Cheesy
Informative and you've got a voice that is easy to listen to, just great!!
Without the comments I would probably tell you to redo the segment, cause it looks like there is some unnecesarry mistakes,
but everything makes much more sense when we get to know what you are thinking.

Eagerly awaiting the next segment Smiley

Ooh okay, unexpected response, I'll get to work on segment 2 then. Thanks!
Indeed.  Great commentary. Only slight problem I had was your voice was occasionaly not loud enough for me to hear clearly over some of the in game natter.  Though that being said I have been told I am going deaf in my young age.

Loved the content though.
give me your eyes!!!
I really have to buy myself a usb mike, i think the normal pink input thing is broken on my pc. I recorded the second segment's audio but the quality is just awful, and when making a commentary is as challenging as doing the speedrun in the first place there must be an issue... so sorry about the sound, i'll re-do the first part too even if all this repetition feels a bit odd with trying to keep prosody consistent and everything... glad the feedback is positive so far though!

I had a question about my videos I uploaded. Is it alright that I had the segments not show me selecting load, and then the save, and to also show the saving of games? Is it important to SDA to have them? Personally I think its better to have it start right from when I actually start playing.

I was really considering trying commentaries on my runs but I don't know if my voice would be appeasing to hear. I also would have NO IDEA what to say....

Another question: Is it alright if I switch between a joypad or my keyboard and mouse between segments? First segment is a lot easier for me with a joypad. My mind never works like I want it during option selections when using my keyboard. Like I will think to select (Spacebar) but I will hit the enter button, thinking it was select, and then screw me up.

One more question, this one for CannibalK9: I was wondering how you had your keyboard and mouse buttons set up? Any little tweaks to make playing easier? I just wanted to have mine be basically the same except for maybe having lean forward on my motorcycle be the r-click on my mouse. During the bike (BMX) segments, like the first one, I would have r-click be my accelerator so I could peddle a lot easier, and then switch it to the other one when I wasn't going to use a bike (this is if I'm going to use my keyboard and not joypad). But other than that I would have my buttons the same.

No that's no problem, I think. In my Postal 2 AW run I hadn't recorded the saving scenes and it's on SDA now.

I would just explain some things in the run.
You can have a look at the audio commentary of Kahless_GOA, which he has made for his Enclave run.
