My first time on the forums. The submission page "highly recommends" we talk about the game before submitting.

So I'm wondering if any speed runs have been completed for this game yet (on any system), and if mine would be accepted. The Godfather is one of my favorite games, and I think I would do well at a speed run.

*checks SDA page, google and youtube*

nope... from what I can see, no one has attempted a Godfather speed run, but just because no one has done it yet, doesn't mean it will be automatically accepted... In fact it will probably be judged more strictly if its a new game being submitted...

Scare tactics aside, if you are planning to perform a speed run for this game, you came to the right place...  I must have beaten this game 3 separate times already (PS2, Xbox, and xbox 360) so I can try to help as much as I can with planning...  Besides PS2 and xbox, every single game of Godfather has something "unique" about it, so depending on the system, your job maybe easier or harder (additional missions)...  Also what needs to be determined as to what you are trying to achieve... The game's first ending being either after you finish the last mission with Michael, or when you go back to the house to become an underboss (I would guess the first)... 2nd ending being when you become Don, and the last ending is when you become Don of NYC...  I probably would imagine that a low % run would be the perfect one to run, (Just do the missions, no sides unless if the game wants you to do it...)  Outside of that, practice shotting people in the head in one shot and probably just use a pistol the whole time without actually executing anyone...  Best of luck on your endeavors if you do attempt it...

Seems I'm in luck!

I was thinking of only doing the main missions and editing out the cut scenes. So it will essentially be segmented. And I intend to play on the PC version.

I'm playing through the game right now taking notes on each section and finding bugs. I already know a glitch which prevents any cars from chasing you (the cars that chase you cheat, so if you hold rear-view perspective they can't teleport to catch up and just disappear). And I agree with you about the upgrades, I don't think it would be worth it to stop for any weapons or ammo.

Fraps is best for recording, right?

well... for PC, you may want to look/post in the tech support... they can get you in the right direction when it comes to getting the most out of the recording (just make sure it isn't any of those "This is a trial version" copied in front of the video, also try to avoid any additional icons being seen on the video...  Also, while it sounds like a great idea to edit out the cutscenes, if you are planning on submiting the run, don't edit the video...  Even if the scenes are unskipable, you have to leave them in to ensure that you didn't try to cheat, which of course you would not consider doing that...  Finally, you are right to approach the run with segments in mind, but then remember that that if you are going to do that, you better be pretty flawless with very few errors (of course I'm not teasing you or anything, but verification can be hard on a first time speed runner...  Practice the run and best of luck...  Also it will be interesting to see this glitch where that cuts car chase scenes down...
The game has a total play time for every save file. Wouldn't that be enough evidence without having the cut scenes?
There hasn't been activity on this thread for couple of years now but hopefully there is someone with some experience of this game.
I'm now practicing and planning run on this game so if anyone has anykind of tips, it would help alot.
First, I'll go for main missions only, and later on maybe even 100% run.
I tried to do this once...Single Segment of course...

So many unskippable cutscenes though! Just...so much! I gave up instantly.

I'd be interested to see a segmented run though, I'll be following this thread intently now! Cheesy

Yeah the cutscenes are boring to watch when you have seen them all so many times. Luckily they wont be that long but the amount of them is pretty annoying.
I'm pretty sure it will be a segmented run, but it is a bit too early to think for that, have to practice it more first Smiley
Does anyone have any advices what to do after the 5th mission (Sleeping with the fishes)?
The problem is that when you get back to the safehouse and call Monk, he just tells you to wait which takes ALOT of time.
Is there a way to make this faster? I haven't found anything yet...
I usually go to the compound to get some ammo, but there is still plenty of time remaining. And I don't wish to just wait infront of the phone, waiting for a call.
It wont be useful to earn some money either meanwhile, since I wont be using any in the whole run.
You'll honestly have to just try it out, I hardly remember a thing...

But I think saving advances time? I remember you have to wait until "the afternoon" I think...

Or, the objective is "Take over businesses" - but again, my memory is fuzzy.
Saving doesn't advance time, since it would be unfair cause you could just skip time and get money from the payday.
Neither does taking over businesses help this, cause you have that mission whole game.
I just guess I'll get those guns and get one business, then just wait for a minute.
hi all, I made an account on this website just for this post. I've been searching for Godfather game speed run and were not able to find one and felt instead of waiting for someone I decided to speed run Godfather Don's edition (PS3).

By the way this my first time ever speed running a game so I'm a noob on the whole speed run definitions and methods of timing. Anyways I decided on a % run that is extorting all stores, taking over rackets, hubs, warehouses & compounds, and completing all hitlist contracts in 13hrs 42mins 31secs. I based the timing on the in game play time where it says in the save files. I hope this is worthy to be considered a speed run.

Here is the video that shows my stats and play, just to note I haven't completed in uploaded all videos yet:

I hope this thread isn't too old my reply won't get noticed :S
First of all, welcome to SDA. I also attempted a run a while back but never got to finish it.
Before you do any kind of encoding or upload i suggest you read this article on how to post a quality test (https://forum.speeddemosarchive.com/post/how_to_post_a_video_quality_test..html) so we can see if the video and audio quality is ok.
Now about the timing of the run. Usually if the in-game timer is accurate it will be used, if not, the run will be timed manually.
If you are unsure about any other technical detail just post a topic in the Tech Support forum (https://forum.speeddemosarchive.com/board/tech_support.html) and people will gladly help with anything you need.
Also, i imagine this is a segmented run of the game. In any case, good look with the run and let's hope to see it on the website!
hi TheVampire thanks for helping me out on the site.
If i'm correct I should use yua which is easier but I don't know how to use it. is there a tutorial or guide on using yua you can share?
btw what do you mean by segmented?
thanks
Yua is a video conversion program that is used by most members of SDA because of it's simplicity and because the target video quality settings required by SDA are already coded inside the application so there is no nee for extra tweaking. A good start of how to use yua can be found in this KB article here: https://kb.speeddemosarchive.com/Yua

Segmented means that the speedrun is completed in multiple sittings (playthrus) instead of all the game in one go. More information about the terms used on SDA can be found in there articles:
