Awesome!  FF6 No Death Glitches (Joker Doom & Vanish-Doom) is actually the next new RPG speedrun I want to learn too.  Should make for an entertaining run at C4L2 if one/both of us are able to make it.

As an aside: Magi Master doesn't really look that hard with the right setup (an RTA I watched Berzerked him, had Celes cast Ice3 twice a turn, then used Palidor before the final round to have some of the party survive Ultima).

Wow for hype over a year in advance Smiley
Consider me interested again as well.  I could obviously do FFXII (preferably as a tag-team or in two parts because there are no good breaks), but I could also run Mass Effect.  Morrowind and Oblivion wouldn't take me too long to learn either.  I doubt the KOTOR games are very marathon-friendly, but I could learn either of them too.

As for the money issue, if I don't have a job by then I'm completely screwed anyway, so fortunately there is demand for Russian.

Very interested in coming. Obviously new route for ff8 might make it a candidate for a game, plus it did so well at C4L. Mystic Quest on the other hand will not have changed much and I think it was a 1 time deal, or at least needs a break. It could be used for a race though if we can get a setup like that to occur but other than that, I don't see why it should be in.

I do plan on learning Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch very soon and other games I have interest in learning our Suikoden(1-3), and FFX-2.  Obviously I will give priority to one of those when come decision time, which games to put in and which to leave out.
dat jerk
I'll try to make it next year. FF X-2 WILL HAPPEN IN A ACTUAL MARATHON! maybe.... TT_TT it must happen...

Kupo!
Posting again but... HYPE! Oh and HYPE!

I will find a way there no matter what it takes. I had so much fun meeting you all this year.

Crisis Core is another one of those "Yay, it got into a marathon, but nothing will really change in the next year most likely" games, so yeah, I don't expect to actually bring it again next year. On that note, Star Ocean 4 would totally be amazing to be able to run at it, and maybe by then I can actually get less "make it or break it" boss fights that waste a ton of time and cost me my time goal. Tongue (There's also the fact that SO4 actually would have donation incentives, since you know... Actually able to name characters. Not to mention could do some kinda of rolling incentive as to the voiced language and what "design" is used (modern or classic).)

I'd love to run FFXIII but well.. Zoning owns 2 records in that and its fairly well routed so the general premise of the run wont change much, even though the time has come down a bit since the marathon for Zoning. Guess it comes down to if a) its wanted in the marathon again and b) if Zoning is able to make it next year. Not too interested in learning something else. In ANY event, I am MORE than happy to take on the same role of driver/donation reader, and take on other responsibilities as needed since Poxnor will be moving to Vancouver.

Also Poxnor/Driscollad... dinner Saturday night somewhere?
Moo! Flap! Hug!
Saturday night is taken for Stef. Sunday night?

I just sent a bunch of photos to JDRF, and we're working on getting all the prizes shipped out.  Thank you so much for the amazing memories, everyone.  And LOL at me standing next to Sgt. McCormack -- I look like a freaking midget next to that guy Smiley
I can make Sunday work. I will be VERY busy next week, so Sunday will actually have to do. Oh, and I couldn't help it, I bought a bottle of Chimay...haven't opened it yet
Sunday does not work for me.... last day of the Masters! I'll be at a friends place watching that and then afterwards be woefully intoxicated.
Literally speaking... literally...
Just three words: Oh! My! God!

...and I forgot the forth one: HYPE!

C4L just rocked (my sleep schedule) and I can't wait for The Return of C4L.

So I've watched most of the marathon now, and I think I have something that reallly needs to be an incentive for the next Final Fantasy 7 attempt..

Aeris Lives!  Yes, use a glitch or the disc change trick to get Aeris out of disc 1, then use her in the party as much as possible for the rest of the game.  BONUS: Have her deal the finishing blow on Sephiroth's final forms (Ultima magic anyone?).

See also for Aeris Disc 2/3 runs, because there are a few places in the game where having Aeris in the party will cause the game to crash: http://www.gamefaqs.com/ps/197341-final-fantasy-vii/faqs/38201

As for when to perform the trick? I would say right after you get the Tiny Bronco, you manipulate to learn Magic Hammer, then you can go anywhere on the (disc 1) map to attempt the trick

It would require a few practice runs surely, but surely a worthy incentive for fans of the game
Boo...Why did this have to be announced after it was decided that I'm moving out of Edmonton Sad

Traysandor, we usually dont do glitches that require hardware manipulation. That being said, if there is an ingame glitch that can be done to do the same thing, then it would be an idea for an incentive.

I'm sure it's at least worth looking into. The game's been out long enough and there are more than enough fans of the game where if someone's found another way to do it,  my guess is someone probably found it by now.

That said, people keep finding new ways to break Ocarina of Time, so I suppose anything is possible. *Shrugs.*

Free-roaming 3D adventure games have more glitches than linear roleplaying games. That said, the Midgar skip shows that certain types of cutscenes might be available for skipping content. If an earlier one were to be found that could go to a point after the death, it might be possible, but there isn't much between her death and the end of the disc...
The original, since 2003.
Also, you can't even (legitimitely) reach the final area of Disc 1 until you've at least obtained the Tiny Bronco.  I don't think the cutscene where Aeris runs off to the final area of Disc 1 is triggered until you've obtained the Black Materia and given it to Sephiroth, in which case Aeris has already left the party for good. Whether or not she actually exists until the point where she dies would have to be resarched more thoroughly.

Given that Aerith's equipment is all returned to your inventory after Demon's Gate (unlike when Cloud/Tifa temporarily leave the party, where their materia are all removed but their equipment stays on), I'd say she's gone for good then short of Gamesharking or other hacking.

I could be wrong, but I think Aeris takes her final weapon with her to the grave (I never saw it back in my inventory). Having gotten Aeris back in the party via Gamesharking to the Debug Room, the game gets a bit unstable with her at certain points as experience and the FAQ shows. It's a neat idea, but the logistics would be problematic. I'd be more interested in seeing a Single Character Challenge for FFVI but that might not lead to a viable marathon run.
The original, since 2003.
That's probably true, and correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think you can even sell each character's "Final" weapon, evn if you could recover it from her somehow.. There isn't much point in using it in a run anyway, because none of the "Ultimate" weapns for each chararacter have any materia growth.

.. Well, okay, you could always stick an Enemy Skill materia and whatever else doesn't need to be levelled up.

I don't recall 100% on the Playstaion version of ff7, but I know on the PC version I can sell every characters Final Weapon for 1 gil each.

Speed Runner
Ive played and beaten FF7 over 60-70 times now that ive also started speedrunning it, apart from the midgar glitch ive only found  few subtle glitches where if you talk to two people at once in some areas of wall market you can roam free during the korean BBQ plate scene etc but other than those mundane things I highly doubt its as breakable as say OOT,

To add there r plenty of incentives i can think of for FF7, character names ofc, but subtle things like visiting the honeybee inn and seeing the hottub scene etc... getting yuffie and fighting Rapps, getting Vincent and beating Lost Number, Ultima weapon etc etc. yuffie date would be diff from barret since imo its much funnier than the barret date. fighting the turks in the crashes gelnika idk lots of fun challenges i think we can develop a nice marathon incentive filled route with Cheesy whatcha guys think?
Professional Second Banana
Getting Yuffie and Vincent were incentives this year (though they didn't get met), as was fighting Ultima and Ruby Weapon.  We didn't offer the Yuffie date because it would have added too much time the run with all of the extra affection manipulation needed (especially having to do the Wutai sidequest before getting the Keystone - beating Rapps that early would probably have to involve farming T/S Bombs or other extra items), not to mention that we would have had to cut off donations for the date right at the start of the run instead of being able to keep it going most of the way through Disc 1.

Personally I think FF7 (and probably 8-10 as well), given the length should take a year off and make room for different games that haven't been in marathons yet, unless there's some massive changes to the speedrun route (that would be noticeably different to the viewer, not just other speedrunners of the game).
