Thanks for the idea, Nitordon.  I'll add that next time I update the first post.  Quick question: do you mind adding in "Attempt to win at Blitz" as a threshold donation incentive?

Now that the dates are finalized, I invite everyone to book their tickets and send me their flight information.  Driscollad has generously (*seriously* fracking generously, for those of you who know Edmonton) agreed to do some of the runs to YEG to pick people up, so you'll see either him, myself, or Stef at the airport.

There is now the question about what to do with our two post-marathon days.  I've received a fairly positive response via other channels (emails, my stream, etc.) about curling at the Saville and a day-trip to Jasper.  If people have other requests (a trip to WEM, checking out Sir Winston Churchill Square, seeing the Alberta Parliament, visiting the Muttart Conservatory, taking in a concert at the Winspear Centre, hiking in the River Valley, etc.), please mention them.

Also, if people do want to do a day-trip to Jasper, then we could do one post-marathon day in Edmonton and one in Jasper, and have a banquet dinner the night of the Edmonton-event day.  I posted a few ideas in the first post (Yiannis, The Creperie, and Chianti's), but I'm open to other ideas too (...for all of the people in this thread who know the Edmonton restaurant scene Tongue )

I'm easy to please with sightseeing stuff - maybe a mix of indoorsy and outdoorsy stuff?

Im open to whatever.  I do plan to work on some Chocobo's dungeon a bit between now and March for possible bonus stream if there is time for it.
Feel free to add "attempt to win at Blitz" as a donation incentive.  I don't know much about how to win the required game right now, but there's still plenty of time to learn it.

Thankfully that's about the ONE thing I do know a ton about in FFX Tongue *Was a Blitzball junkie* so if it happens Nitrodon I'll make an attempt to make it happen.

Okay, I'm planning to take everyone to the Edmonton city dump, so that we can all roll around in used toilet paper and play with used heroine needles.  Does anyone have an opinion on THAT? Wink

I'm sorry if this sounds silly, but I know that a lot of people are spending a tonne of money and a lot of their own time to make this marathon a success.  And I truly appreciate it, from the bottom of my heart Smiley  All I want to do in return is show what a wonderful place my city and my country can be, so let me give you the royal tour Smiley  If you have any impressions about what you would enjoy, please let me know!

I'll stay in the car.
But used heroine needles up here are very polite and apologetic, it's all cool. As for post-marathon, I'll be required back to work for Wednesday morning, unless I can swing some extra days off. I can try, and update you. As for Sights and sounds in Edmonton, well...just like you, I've seen them all. I would much rather the visitors decide on that. But I will say, Jasper / Lake Louise is perhaps one of my favourite places in the world.
Moo! Flap! Hug!
Just to clarify, for people who aren't from Alberta, Jasper National Park is the closer of the two major national parks in Alberta.  The other one is Banff National Park, where Lake Louise is located.  Both are very beautiful.

Edit: Ack, I posted an old version of the proposed schedule.  New version posted Tongue

I'm open to any and all comments on the original vs. proposed schedule.  My initial thoughts on the proposed schedule:

+ MQ is before FF8, since FFgamer was hoping to use MQ to hype up FF8 (which has lots of donation incentives);
- FFL3 gets a better spot than it deserves in the proposed schedule;
- FF1 doesn't get as good a spot as it should in the proposed schedule
+ Girl-power ending is just cool

And how the heck did the marathon wind up being a slightly different length? Tongue  My brain hurts...I'll look at that in a bit if someone can't tell me Tongue Tongue Tongue

I somewhat prefer the original schedule, mostly because the proposed new schedule has me playing my 2 'long' games closer together than I'd prefer.  I do like that the proposed schedule doesn't have me up quite as late Sat night/Sun morning though and I wouldn't have to get up early to commentate for FFL3.

I guess I'm confused on why a new schedule is needed.  Are there other problems with the original schedule besides MQ's timeslot (Poxnor, I know that you intentionally gave FFL3 a graveyard slot due to the game's farming and obscurity compared to the main FF series games)?
Moo! Flap! Hug!
I think FFgamer's main goal was to get MQ before FF8.  I see the appeal of doing it that way, but I also don't think it will have as big an impact on FF8's viewership as FFgamer hopes.

There are plusses and minuses to both schedules, which is why I decided just to put them out there for comments.  For example, puwexil pointed out both gains and losses between the two schedules for him personally.  I thought it really was a trade-off in most ways, which is why I just threw both out there.

I know I've mentioned it before to you about wanting to get Crisis Core + FFVII together if at all possible because of the storyline ties (and Crisis Core would be able to hype up FFVII).

Edit: Oh I'd also like to not have to be commentating so close to my Crisis Core run (Seeing that FFVI is so close after). Two fairly decently sized runs so close together (playing and then commenting) would not make for a very awake Rini.

Nothing "hypes up" VII.  VII, with a side of puwexil, is its own hype Wink  But yeah, I like the CC -> VII transition in the original as well (that was intentional when I made the original schedule).

I'm strongly leaning to the original schedule, for the reasons of: (a) FFL3 and FF1 placement; (b) separating puwexil's two long runs; and, (c) the CC -> VII transition being a natural fit.  I just wanted to hear other people's thoughts.

If people are interested in curling at the Saville and a day-trip to Jasper (which is basically the only feedback that I've received), I can look into costs.  I already posted the cost of the Saville teaching+mini-tournament in the first post, but I could phone them and check on availability.  Regarding Jasper: there would be an additional cost (both the cost of gas to drive there, for however many cars we take -- it's about a three-hour drive each way -- and the cost of entry to the national park), so if people wanted I could try to estimate that.  But, there are some alternate ideas I listed above, and if people want to know more about any of those, I could provide more details and get any more information that you want Smiley

Just keep in mind that I really want for the trip to Canada to be awesome for all of you; and, the more feedback I have, the more awesome I can make it Smiley

I'll stick to the original schedule honestly. I'm already an early riser and my two commentary games (FFL3 and FF1) both work great into my natural sleep schedule (Up early).

Practice Update. Just got a 2:35 MQ Any% Run. I was +5.3 after Twinhead Wyvern with possible chance to break world record but Zuh trolled and I lost 2 minutes.  I even had Bad Pazuzu(1st floor)

Yes, I should have posted something like this ages ago. Yes, I had other things on my mind. Yes I'm moving through half the country. Yes, I'm getting a new job. Yes, I slacked. So what, I'm up for the challenge xþ Or something.

My update is: It is looking very much like I can find a pot of gold to help me pay for a flight to Canada. Why? Because my parents are way cool and want to give me a master's degree present. Their condition is that I should stay two weeks, not only one. Don't worry Pox, I'll find other people to visit Wink .
I would also be happy to step up and play some of FFIX to relieve Puwexil of parts of his one long game. That is, if Puwexil is OK with me stepping in on that game. I have started practising, but I'm not going to give times yet as they are (a) still pretty crap due to non-perfect memorising, and (b) need to be calculated off of PAL times anyway.

Interesting question, because the longer marathon schedule has a shorter time slot for FFI by 5 min, unless my brain's dead, too ô.o
Ah, wait, I got it! Proposed schedule: MQ is scheduled to start five minutes before the end of FFXIII not after; that saves ten minutes to make up for the lost five just stated xD

I think I'll be fine on FF9 (it's a game that's pretty sensitive to deviations in routing, so I'd really rather fly solo), but thanks for the offer - it'll be nice to have more commentators for the game.

Puwexil, I can commentate for the later half of ff9 since I am doing MQ right after. I just need to learn the route and watch you do some runs.

EDIT: I checked my PBs on splits and right now a possible best is somewhere around 2:22:34.18.  This would be if I got my best split to split on every split in 1 run. Obviously don't think this will happen but shows how much time there is to save if a lot of things go right. I have been getting several runs now in the 2:3x:xx range so expect to have the estimate beaten during the marathon.

EDIT2: Phoebe Glitch in Mystic Quest found. Unable to duplicate though, probably won't see this ever again but it looks damn hilarious. http://www.twitch.tv/ffgamer86/c/1801180
Hello.  I'm a big fan of Final Fantasy games.  I'm new to this site, but wanted join because I love watching you guys.  I'm so excited about this marathon.  I've been watching a lot of Essentia's runs.  I'm in love with her FF6 ones.  I wanted to ask a few questions though.  Have you guys received an artist for your banner yet?  I was going to try my hand at one.  If it's rejected it's fine.  I was also curious if there was a way I could contribute to your prizes with a drawing.  I don't have anything yet, but I am willing to do a piece for the marathon.  Also, when I finish it, would I send it to someone?  Thank you for your time. =)

Essentia you're awesome! =D  I wish I could speedrun like you.

Since poxnor hasn't posted yet, I can answer this. I think we have a professional artist doing our artwork.  You can contribute prizes for the marathon for sure though. If your gonna do a drawing though, try to keep it final fantasy themed, most likely relating to 1 of the games we are doing.  Plenty to choose from though.  You would need to mail it to Poxnor's residence though and he can help you with that part but other than that feel free to be as imaginative as possible.

Don't think I ever answered about Bartz's name in FF5 - it's 6 characters.
