Yoshi's eggs are at my mercy!
Yeah, with Doom being the most recent lately. The boom is really starting to take off now with all these movies coming out. Some seem to have some potential to do well, while others, ...hmm, I can't even describe the amateurity of some of them.

Officially announced titles I know of include:

- DOA: Dead or Alive (2006)
-- Article & Trailor: http://games.kikizo.com/news/200511/121.asp
- Halo (June 2007)
- BloodRayne (Jan. 6th, 2006)

If anyone has any other info, please post it, and I'll update the list. Beyond DOA, anything I reveal is just rumor and speculation. I forgot where I heard, but supposibly there is a Metriod movie in progress. And if that sells well, then there would be a Zelda movie made, and if that sells well, then there would be, now get this, a second Mario film made!

I apologize if any of this is old, as I'm sure it probably is, but I wanted to know if anyone knew any more on these game movie phenomenons. Wink

Unfortunate for some games turning into movies, Uwe Boll is the director. This guy should be fired.

The Halo movie had better not be a flop o.o;

And if it is, it's a call for me and my buddies to go see it and make fun of it outloud in the theatre Tongue

Yeah bad movies are good in a certain way Tongue

In those situations, yes. For example (well, not really, because these movies kick fucking ass), my friends and I usually gather to watch these movies:

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
Terminator 3
Star Trek: First Contact
Dawn of the Dead

Ah, how they rule. And yeah, this is off topic, apologies. I must leave and do something for the day..... Good bye.

Oh, right Halo. Well, what's known so far is that Peter Jackson (King Kong, LOTR, etc.) is staffed as executive producer. No director or cast yet. And supposibly filming begins in some country in 2006, suggesting that it won't be CG animated, which severely saddens me; ever seen a Master Cheif suit in RL? It's not cute, at all.

Oh, and I forgot my concerns on DOA, the preview is laughable. It looks like Charlie's Angels with a thin coat of DOA slathered on. The costume director should be fired. Kasumi's get-up looks as if I could purchase a cheap halloween imitation at a store for $19.99. Goddamnit Hollywood, get it right!
Isn't it cute?
I know they are making a movie based on Metroid, but I can't find proof, sorry.

Once Hollywood figures out that making movies out of older movies/TV shows and video games is no longer profitable, maybe, just maybe, they will decide to come out with something original.

I think that will only happen once it becomes no longer profitable.
Hollywood is in an "originality slump" right now. And now is the best time to apply for the job of pessimistic critic.
Anywho, what about the Prince of Persia movie that is to be written by Jordan Mechner? It's not coming out anytime soon probably.

I think the problem with games being turned into movies is that the games are long. And thus the stories are long, so the job of cramming down the story to less than 2 hours will never be successful.
DMC3,ZOE2 and Xenosaga 2.  Am I crazy?
I`m intrested in the MGS3 "movie". If you haven`t heard about it yet:

List updated. BloodRayne is premiring January 6th. I can't say much more. All I saw was the commercial last night.
I caught the end of it. I didn't care.

Oh God no! Not a Metal Gear Solid movie, aren't the cutscenes in the game long enough for three movies? It would be, like, 12 hours long. And correct me if I am wrong, but King Kong is based off of an older movie, NOT ORIGINAL!

I know that, I misread your original post.  Feh.

The MGS 3 "movie" will be 3 and a half hours long. I hope it comes to Europe. I can finally get my dad playing games. He thought the cutscenes in MGS3 were amazing and wtached most of them.

If that'd be the problem then great films like Harry Potter would never exist. Don't tell me that 600 pages of paper contain less story than your average 7h game. That's not the problem. Nor is it the problem that games are told from the view of one person. That's difficult, but possible.

The problem is that Hollywood picks a game series (not an individual game mostly), takes about 3 recognizable features of it and surrounds it with as much fanservice as they can, and think that's a warrant for full theatres. In the case of Doom they picked... a marine, the bfg, and pinky. Resident evil: Zombie, female main protagonist and, err, more zombies. Tomb Raider: Lara, ancient ruins, boobs. Cramming down the story into these movies would be an improvement, but they just wrote something together they thought would fit to the game. Or maybe they used something similar to SciGen.

There are many opinions about that.

I enjoyed it a lot... if you want the whole story you have to read the book, and if you want shakespeare you should never even go near a cinema Tongue
DMC3,ZOE2 and Xenosaga 2.  Am I crazy?
I have read all the books. (I admit!)
I liked the first movie. I hated the second. I hate the third even more. I thought fourth was OK.
Not to mention all the merchandising crap that would come out.Remember the toys that came out from the Mario Bros. movie. Just imagine what would happen if a Zelda movie WAS made. They'd turn the poor little elf into such a media whore. Sad
