This is a platformer for the SNES, which I played a lot in my childhood, and still really enjoy. One interesting thing about this game is that there are certain bosses that give hearts, but you can otherwise skip them. Therefore, there are 2 categories for this game: any% and all bosses.

My current PB is 40:45. I still want to improve it by a lot, because there are a lot of deaths.

Over the past few days, I've improved my time to 29:45(yes, 11 min. improvement Smiley ). The movement and boss strats have been quicker, and I've had very few costly deaths, which has allowed me to skip some safety lives. I think that I can still get a sub-29 or sub-28, probably, because there are still some deaths, and I can do some bosses more quickly. I could technically also keep the speed shoes for the whole game, but that's really hard to do.

Nice to see this game getting some attention. It was too long ago since I played this game, so I can't comment on any of the routes or anything, but I watched a little of both your runs and you seem to be on the right track. I'm looking forward to see what you end up with.
I've started playing this again, and I've gotten my time down to a 27:09, but there are still mistakes throughout the run. I could also save more time by keeping the speedshoe items for much longer, which you lose after taking a hit, which is hard to avoid in this game. I also discovered a Jester's Jump switch skip which saves about 10 seconds, and has a 5 frame window for the hop off the enemy. For the trick, though, you have to hit the upper ledge at the correct time to be boosted up to the upper platform.

I've changed my route a little bit, to use double speedshoes in more of the levels. I currently try to use it in the armory/library area for as long as possible. In all bosses, I'm going to try to keep them in the freezer and the conservatory. In any%, I just got a really solid run of 26:05; there's still some time save possible, but there weren't any major mistakes.

I've also started running all bosses, and I currently have a pretty good run of 32:00.

I just discovered a major skip, where you can go from the furnace directly to the chain room, which you normally have to save all of the family members to unlock. It requires zipping through the wall at the beginning of the furnace, so that you can fall to the loading zone for the top of the area, which strangely leads to the chain room. This will probably make a time of about 8-9 minutes possible. IndDragPack( http://www.twitch.tv/inddragpack ) just beat my record with that strat, with a 13:34.

the skip(at about 3:58):

I got the time down to 8:22. It's a reasonably solid run, but the time can still be improved, because I took about 30 seconds to get the clip, and I can skip the bird heart.

Wait, you people somehow got zips to work in real time? Nice.

The only thing i'd say is to look into getting the lance from the Sports Hall. It's more just for The Nasty Judge. Not sure how feasible that would be though since you lose it in one hit.

Other than that, nice run! Looking forward to seeing how low this gets now.
Well, I still haven't gotten the tas wall clip in the Lurch room, and that hasn't been done in real time, but this was another substitute, thanks to the game's quirky programming. :p

I'd like to get to the point where I can make it through to the judge with the lance, but it will take a lot of practice, especially considering how slippery the control is with 2 speed shoes, which are required to do the zip in the furnace. I think that, for now, a sub-7 would be optimal, but it could be lower if I could play perfectly.
I discovered that the lurch wall clip is possible in real time. I thought you had to use left+right, but it turns out that the tas doesn't use it, actually.

The way it's done in the tas is:
1: 2 frames before hitting the wall, swing the sword up
2: when you hit the wall, tap down for 1 frame(still holding Y)
3: 5 frames after hitting wall, swing the sword left
4: 8 frames after that, tap down for 1 frame, and release Y

The way it's done in my vid is different; it simply ducks while in the wall, and gets pushed through. Usually when I do that, though, I get zipped up, and have to reset.

TL;DR - the lurch clip works in RTA, but it's a nightmare

Also, on another note, I got a PB of 6:51 today. It was a good run, but I lost 8 seconds on the clip, and didn't keep the upgrades to the last boss.

Swinging the sword is completely unnecessary. I just do it to make the TAS more entertaining.

If you're getting zipped up after clipping into the wall, then that means you are probably either pressing jump or are clipping too high from the ground. Just simply press down when you're in and you should make it to the other side.
