Nothing video-game related could come close to how intense that was.  Holy shit.  Wow.
Thread title:
everybody wanna tell you the meaning of music
I guess I should get this in before this gets locked, ha. Well, me and TSA might be the only people who care about football anyway.

While it was a good game, it's like video games -- I'd rather be playing than watching. It was more intense for me playing intramural football. Wink

You don't by any chance happen to go to UT do you?

I was rooting for USC, but, such is the way of things.
Yeah, I said it.
That was an amazing game.

I would have rooted for Texas anyway, but I was especially hoping for the Longhorns to win tonight after that ridiculous series ESPN did where they pitted USC against classic college football teams, and having USC beat all of them.

I'm an Ohio State fan. I hope Vince Young stays for another year, because if he does, Texas/Ohio State II will be another incredible must-see game. Smiley

Hook em Horns!

Awesome game.  We need to get Vince Young in here, he Speed-Ran all over the USC defense!

Actually, while Vince Young undeniably was the most influential player in the Rose Bowl, the Texas defense really deserves a TON of credit for managing to stop the USC offense.  Their play in the last 6 minutes of the game won the game for Texas just as much as Vince Young.

Welcome 2006, the year of the Longhorn!

I'm a USC fan, or at least was. Texas deserved this, and after their win, I've realized USC is overrated. 4 ESPN analysts said that the 2005 Trojans could beat most of the great college all time football teams. Watching that on ESPN, after seeing the Trojans practically lose to Notre Dame earlier in the season, was surprising. However, their loss to Texas proved that USC is a great team, but not totally superior to any other college team ever. It also proved that Texas is just as good or better than USC, which I'm sure some people doubted. I don't follow college football as much as I follow the NFL, but I know all the good teams and the basics. I was mainly a USC fan just because I like when records are set and broken, and just watching good football teams play. On the second to last play of the game, where reggie bush ran to the right for about 20 yards, to me it seemed like if he cut back in instead of going out he would have had an open field in front of him. Oh well, congrats Texas. Hope you go undefeated next season, so you can come close to USC's win streak. If you want to know how much I love when records are broken, I'm a Chargers fan (I really don't know why, they're all the way across the country) and I started punching things and yelling when they beat the Colts, and they were on their last hope of being in the playoffs! I think that was just because besides a 162-0 baseball season and a 82-0 basketball season, which are both certainly not going to happen in my lifetime, a 16-0 NFL season is the record I want to happen the most. Sorry for getting off topic a bit, anyway, congratulations Texas!!
I don't think this topic will get locked, after all, it is "game related" ;)(bad pun/corny joke, I know)
新世紀進歩的羽扇子 音楽
I came down watching the game, and USC scored some touchdown to put them up by...seven or eight or something and I freaked out because on my TV the clock said 1:19 left or something like that.  Of course it was 11:19 left, so less of a problem.

And hey, this means my team lost to the best team in the country by only 67 points!
Vince Young will get destroyed in the NFL if he tries to run as much as he does.
Fucking Weeaboo
Psh.  The Alamo Bowl had a more exciting finish.  Nebraska was about 15 yards away from having the most embarassing finish in football history...on ANY level.

Hates football, hates Texas, hates people at his school in a town in Texas talking about Texas winning. Nuff said

This is why I avoid sports media.

I just hope he's not another Michael Vick. I don't follow college football enough to know.

As much as you hate it being exposed to it all the time, which is very reasonable, Texas HS football at least makes for a great book.

Didn't they say the same thing about Michael Vick? I enjoy calling Vick "overrated" as much as the next guy, but objectively, I can admit he seems to be doing well for himself.

Vince Young is a better passer than Vick, and Vince Young is "bigger".  He's 6-5 and weighs like 235 or something.  That's why he's so hard to tackle (and his footwork).

He has the most ackward throwing motion, but I think if he came back one more year and worked on improving his throwing even more, he would have a good career in the NFL, even if it isn't as storied as his NCAA career.  He also has HUGE props for being mature and handling pressure.

I mean, Texas held Reggie bush to being mortal.  How do you think an NFL defense will handle him? Pff...Reggie what?  Matt Leinart is iffy, too.  They make such a big deal of all these NCAA folk being so good in the NFL.  Most of the best rookies weren't even the best in NCAA.  I think Cadillac Williams and Ricky Williams are the only recent examples of really good rookies panning out.  Ricky had issues, but this year he's gotten back on track and he should be back to prime time next year.  Cadillac Williams helped Tampa Bay be good again.

But even then, niether is an All-Star, or super-star material.  It's pure luck drafting an NCAA person and having them pan out.

HS football here sucks because South Lake beats down the Panthers, the year I actually enjoyed High School football was the year Lufkin Panthers won state, I actually went to that game, last one I've ever went to
Well I have to go to every Woodlands game (The Woodlands is a bit north of Houston) because I'm in band, so I've seen my fair share of Texas HS games. Heh would have been funny if you were there when Lufkin played The Woodlands because then we would have been two random people on the internet who happened to have gone to the same obscure HS football game. heh. I saw that game too. I'm not a huge fan of football, but I'm not the opposite either. I'll watch it, but only when I have to (HS games) or when its a game I actually care about.

Hmm, never heard of the Woodlands, but, atleast we've know what schools we're talking about Tongue

South Lake Carroll was like ranked 1 or 2 this past year, wasn't it?  The Woodlands is near Houston, as is Katy and Kingwood.  H-Town - though I've actually never been there.  UT is in Austin, and I've been to Round Rock, West Lake and Kileen.  I've also been to Corpus Christi, San Antonio and El Paso.  Oh yeah, and Fredricksburg outside of Austin.

On my way to the Rose Bowl last year, I stayed in some place known as Ft. Stockton - eerie.

I grew up in Plano, near Dallas, and I'm familiar with the whole DFW area and the entire stretch of the I-35 between Austin and Dallas (including Ennis - aka highway patrol hell).  The only sucky part of my drives home in college was the stupid pass through Waco, where Baylor is.

AND HA HA!  I was watching ESPN, and Justin Leonard was talking about UT.  Forgot he went there.

The deal with Vince Young is he will most likely finish college with the Longhorns for one more year. I mean look at it this way, Heisman(sp) trophy (almost guaranteed if he stays), or playing for piss poor teams like the Texans or Saints. Although significantly different as far as pay goes, sticking around another year might improve his chances of getting on a decent NFL team.

Vince Young is from Houston...

I don't think he cares about Heisman anymore.  He wants to go as high as he can, and to a team he will be happy with.  Texans might be a good choice, they might not.  Some say he could go #1, but I think he won't break the top 5 this year.  If he stays, and plays as good as this year ... even if Texas doesn't repeat, he'll be more valuable because his main competition is Adrian Peterson, Brady Quinn, Marcus Vick and Troy Smith.  He's better than the last two, he's more mobile than Brady Quinn, and Adrian may not go next year anyway as he will only be a Junior.  He's probably going to go top 3, if not #1, in 2007 draft - should no new "Reggie Bush" appear.

Three big things stood out for me in this game. First, why did Reggie Bush have to pitch the ball in the first half after that big gain? I know he was excited, but that was horrible. You never know what would of happened, but they probably would of picked up a field goal or touchdown if they had kept the ball.

Second, why did the refs not review the play where Vince Young's knee was clearly down? I thought that they reviewed every play in college. I know that they probably would of scored anyways, but you never know. That's besides the point, anyways. No one should get a free touchdown. The refs needed to call back that play and have Texas play at least one more down before bringing on the field goal unit for the extra point.

Third, why did USC waste their last timeout to try to stop the two point conversion? If they had saved that timeout, it would of been a much more interesting finish. On the second to last play, Reggie could have taken it back inside instead of running out of bounds. Don't tell me that Reggie didn't at least have a chance of picking up another ten yards by cutting back inside. The lane looked pretty open to me. That would of put USC in field goal range.

Another small thing was the defense. I mean, come on, wrap up the ball carrier! But, I don't really blame them, almost all college defenses suck anyways.

Anyways, congrats to UT for playing a great game and winning. It was a great game, no one can deny that. Well, there's always next year for USC, as long as they have Pete Carroll.
Yeah, I said it.
Believe it or not, the reason the Vince Young lateral play wasn't reviewed was because they were having technical difficulties; the video feed for the replay booth had cut out. They were looking at a blank screen, so they couldn't review it, and they couldn't stop the game because of that.
Ben Goldberg
Ah yes, I remember them saying that too. It's really not the time to have technical difficulties, though, during the championship game and all.

Scratch Marcus Vick off the Heisman list - he's been kicked off Virginia Tech's team.  Hasta la vista, baby.
