I think it's about time to make a real thread for this game.

A lot of new stuff got discovered and I hope there will be even more in the future which helps us to finaly break the game.

Let's get started!

So I've been browsing YT for a bit and came across this video right here:

If you take a look at 07:00 you can see that Ark gained a lvl up on the overworld which allows him to walk OOB.
I managed to delay my lvl up in 2 diffrent ways.

The first way is to get an enemy near the exit screen and kill him right before you exit the screen. (He needs to explode, otherwise it won't work)
The second way is to kill an enemy with a jump attack, hold select to get into the menu and use the bone pin to warp out of the area.

Unfortunately both ways ended up in not lvling up at the overworld. It just got delayed up until the point where I entered an area where Ark was big again. (Non battle area or lvl area)

I asked the creator of this video if he has any idea what we need to do in order to get this without the use of hex; this was his response:

From what I see, if Ark is in the middle of a jump (not standing on the ground) or Bit (LSB 6) of address 7E048B is set it will not trigger a level up and will wait until the bit clears to do so.
That address also determines if Ark is on Land (40), Water (20), or in a dungeon scene(80).

I have no clue about adresses or anything like that but maybe someone else does and finds a way to perform this glitch.

I will make a pastebin url with all the glitches and current route so new runners can learn this game if they like to do so.
Thread title:
All the things
Lemon, if possible, you should play around with that overworld levelup code first to make sure you can actually still enter places. Post-AGDQ I can help look into getting the glitch itself to work, but first thing is to make sure it's worth it.
If you look at the video, he enters polynese with this so entering places still seems to be possible. There are quite a few things you could possibly skip with this but for some reason even with cheats it is hard to trigger. I got it to work once and it froze the game after about 5 seconds :/ still seems worth looking into.
All the things
Let me rephrase then. Test it at a couple key points in the game and see if you can trigger future events simply by visiting. Many games have sequential triggers so you won't be able to do things out of order even if you manage to get there.

looks interesting, i think actually the first spot that glitch is possible would be Eklemata (actually first Area whit enemies in the Start Area if iam correct here), unfortunately it would be useless here, you have not a single town on the worldmap.
Anyway, maybe Louran would be a decent spot to test it, so you have Towns + Bonepin if the glitch is possible on a normal way

Need some testing with the Action? Codes first i think.
Well the most interesting things to skip would be: Leim, the whole forest an dbloody mary thing since you could just walk to freedom and getting the airplane by going to berugas lab on foot. But it's proving hard to recreate even with cheats, so far only got it to work once, the thing is it works with a certain thing in the memory and i have no idea how to manipulate that.
As per Omnigamer's demand i found a way to test a lot of stuff concerning this glitch and sequence breaks are very possible. I estimate this glitch to save between 40-50 minutes if someone can find a way to make it work consistently.

Yesterday we did a short race (Beat Shadowkeeper) with me, Terralufia and DXSteveX. It was really fun and I hope we can do some more races soon, so that we (me and steve) get to learn the game quickly ^^
It's nice to see new people pick up the game and if your are interested in doing races you can always contact me over skype (same username). However I would advise against doing chapter 1 races since they very strongly depend on the RNG you get at the end of tower 3, the one who has the worst fight there has virtually no chance of catching up afterwards. In my opinion the first goal that is worthwhile to race is Dark Morph (end of chapter 2) and learning the route up to that point shouldn't take terribly long since you don't a dd that many more dungeons to the race.

After a couple of more practice runs. I would love to join at race to that point!

Chapter 1 race helps with the laggy Shadowkeeper fight when you're under pressure (if you are competitive during a race), IMO.

I agree that a Dark Morph race is better for learning Smiley Chapter 1 isn't hard to learn, it's almost a one-way chapter with a little backtracking to get the armor from Elle. Act 2 comes with tougher fights, more areas to move through etc. etc.
Do you guys use different strats for a Dark Morph race, or do you use regular 'full game' strats?

The only strat that kind of changes is how you approach the grinding in Grecliff. The regular 4 bird kill strat is not that useful for Dark Morph races since it's biggest time gain is in Louran which is after the race is already over there are a few different approaches people have used here during races.

Usually you would grind the screen with the 3 Borfes before the boss fight until level 14 and kill the boss 4 times to reach level 15, in a race you either just grind the room until you reach level 14 and kill the boss immediately or you grind until level 13, then you clear the screen with the 3 Borfes 19 additional times (18 might work aswell not completely sure right now) and kill the boss twice to get to level 14 + extra experience.

I personally prefer the second approach because i find the grind in Grecliff terribly boring and it cuts down on grinding time there, even though a little rng is introduced with the multiple boss kills. The only thing that really changes from any% afterwards is the weapon in Zue, on level 14 it is actually faster to pick up the weapon here and use it to kill the boss, on level 15 that isn't needed anymore since using the CrySpear takes the same amount of hits on 15. You can add in some additional grinding in Eklamata later to reach level 16 before you fight Dark Morph and kill him in less cycles, for me that depends on my position in the race and it requires a pretty good feel for your overall experience, the ideal spot would be to level up while killing the mage form of the boss.
...
in regards to the Arkzilla glitch: the video tells it works with any action that changes the sprite. I wonder if and how it can be done without the level up animation.

It would be awesome if you can store an action just like the level up animation, without cheats ofcourse. If that can be done, which ones would it be? per example: is it possible to die when you are in the overworld, if yes: die you actually die or does it do some kind of zombie Ark glitch with the ability to walk on the overworld? Or maybe using a Magic Ring and store that animation?    --just thinking out loud--
It's really hard to tell if dying on the world map would actually be possible but i don't think so because you can warp out of an area with 0 Hp but as soon as you enter another area your hp is set to 1. i also don't think it could be done with spell animations because they are completed before you get the chance to actually enter your chest. The level up animation should be by far the easiest to accomplish since it's not really that hard to enter the world map with enough experience to trigger a level up, the only question about that is if it's actually possible to manipulate memory in a way that makes the game think your aren't on the world map anymore.

Crazy thought:
Anyone looked into how lag effects the game? If there is lag at all. Perhaps something can be done with lag otherwise to quit to the overworld from a level and the game for a short period of time still thinks it's in the level? (Thus the game giving you the level-up in the overworld)
Hm need to try that even though I'm not sure if that would be possible in any of the spots where the glitch would actually be useful, still worth trying just to see if it works.
I want to use magic in Dark Gaia. Someday, I hope a cheat. (Magirocks) It's possible? Right?
...
Is there anyone who has some notes regarding the route for the game post Dark Morph? I'd love to watch a WR run and make my own notes, but watching 2+ more hours is kinda long Roll Eyes
I don't think any of us really use notes since the game is really straight forward, you can contact me on Skype and maybe we can work something out together though.
In case somebody is interested to see this game taken to the TAS limits, here is a new any% run I did for the English PAL version:

Managed to break the 3 hour mark with a 2:56 at Dark Gaia's defeat on the game clock, which is universally comparable to any version of the game except of text delay differences.

Enjoy!
Good job saturn!
