Going to use this to post my progress.

Segment 1 - Beginning -> Before Liger Queen (Goal - < 00:18:00)

- need to equip Luke with Strecido, Tear with Tutti
- need to equip Tear with Monster Collector title
- need to turn off all voice and skit titles
- need to buy the Cutlass and Wand from Engeve
- Eclaire de Larmes and Blessed Drops against Liger Queen

---

Apparently Guy is the most efficient melee fighter using 3-hit -> Crescent Strike -> Moonlight Demon -> Crescent Strike. A very reliable combo as well, as the chances of any of those hits missing is next to nothing.
Thread title:
While I would give this run a watch, I would do so with the sound off. Anyone who has played it will know why.

I was actually planning on turning off all the voices. Battle voices can cause delays due to after battle conversations, and I'm skipping most of the text anyways, so it's pointless to leave them on at all.

EDIT: As an update, I'm roughly 2.5 hours in at the Desert Oasis. I could probably lower that by an hour or so if I remove all my mistakes and inefficiency.

And for that, I will thank you.

You really don't like the VA, do you? Lol.
THE GAME!!
I may have not been able to import it yet, as I live in a PAL region, but i'm still interested. I'd say you go for it.

Oh I am definitely going to do it. The run itself is fairly easy once I memorize the routes. The hard part is going to be getting a DVD recorder and setting it all up.

Well, really only for the first half of the game. Not that it matters since all scenes will be skipped or skipped through as much as possible, but I just don't wanna take that chance.

Indeed.

Update: 6.75 hours roughly, and I'm at the Chesedonia/Yulia City/Malkuth/Kimlasca meeting almost, and with about 2 hours of fixable mistakes. I made some really bad mistakes in a lot of areas (not knowing where to go, etc.), and accidentally fought Ortion Cavern boss on Unknown (lol, cost like 20 minutes). I discovered a couple time savers though. Leaving everyone on Guard will keep them from doing anything in boss battles, and with the AD skills that prevent casting interruption, I can have them do nothing but cast without wasting time going melee. Also, switching to Unknown for Asch vs. Luke speeds things up, Asch does 1k unguarded damage, so Luke dies really fast. The biggest time saver of them all is the Monster Collector title for Tear, though. No random battles = yay.

I think the Fortune's Arc extension for Tear could help considering it can buff and revive your characters(If necessary), and I think Fever Time and Indignation can work as well considering how much damage they do. Later on though when the bosses are using MA's, you should use Anise's Final Fury->Dying Moon MA-Lock to save time.

The buffs won't really help much. Beyond that, Tear surely will almost never have her over limit available during a battle that I could use it anyways. This holds true for just about every character (just to let you know, the boss battles so far have not lasted more than 20-30 seconds.. adding an extra 10+ seconds or so per Mystic Arte, in my mind, does not help me). Also, I have never heard of Anise's MA-Lock, how does one pull that off? But please keep in mind I will almost never have OL.. certainly not towards the end.

From Gamefaqs' Glitch Guide on the MA-lock glitch

Activation - This happens by first performing Anise or Luke's extensions in
battle (I don't believe Tear's extension does this). After if you try to use
any spell casting Mystic Arte after that (Innocent Shine or Mystic Cage) the
character will be stuck in a "spell lock" meaning they'll just keep casting
forever (even after overlimit ends) and the Mystic Arte will never go off.
If you're manually controlling them you can't even press guard to cancel out.
Also, this glitch does in fact work on bosses (including Nebilim and the cameo
team), so you could in essence use it to your advantage. Though for bosses it
seems to work even on Mystic Artes that aren't casted (though Reid's Burning
Phoenix will still go off, and I think Time Stop still happens too, but I'm
not sure).

How to fix - To get out of the lock you must have either Luke, Anise, Guy, or
Natalia use their Mystic Artes (no extensions of course), or let Tear/Jade
get killed, or go into the menu and give them a command. Though the only way
to use Innocent Shine or Mystic Cage (if you try again after they get out of
the lock) is if you've used one of the non-spell casting Mystic Artes (without
extensions). Otherwise they'll just keep getting in a spell lock again and
again.

This can easily save some time in some boss battles for some that use MA's multiple times, and getting OL isn't that hard for Anise if she's getting a lot of hits with her spells, especially if you purchase the OL Grade Shop item.

Fortune's Arc extension could probably have use as a last resort if all characters but Tear are dead since it revives everyone. The buffs though..yeah maybe not that useful. I barely notice much difference even with power charge and stuff. It can be useful when you fight Arietta, Largo, and Lagretta on the mountain.

The battles are lasting only 20-30 seconds now, but later on they will last longer even with the equips you have now, and even with the increased levels/CC stats.

Hmm not sure what else to mention.

They will last longer, yes. MA-locking Van will be hard because of his multiple forms, but using it on Synch 3 might be especially useful because he tends to spam his MA like crazy.
I'm almost ready to start recording some runs. Hopefully we get some more interest for this.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
You can use L2 to go through text as well, so if you can't press X fast enough, just alternate between the two.

Hey, thanks for the info. That will be helpful.
So, is this speedrun happening or what? Smiley
Unfortunately, I can't do this. Sad I don't have the time I once did to do any speed running. I really hope someone can pick it up though, I'm more than happy to help anyone who wants to run it.
i might learn to run the 3ds version after i beat it a bunch of times
i would do single seg and since i have a capture card
i would be able to stream it
if anyone has a route planned out i would appreciate a copy of it
( too many i's in this sorry)
Does anyone know if the overworld map glitch has any uses in a speed run?
As far as I know, from what research I've done and the experience I have with it, the only uses the World Map glitch would have are getting the Vorpal Sword and the Refined Flightstone as soon as you leave the forest, and getting to Sheridan faster on the first visit.
