i know the current thread icon set sucks -- basically i haven't had much time to look for a better one. if anyone knows of any free and better sets that can be used legally by taiga forum let me know.

if by "support" you mean give the wii and iphone the same interface and all the same features that you get on a pc, then no. there's no way to do this because the wii/iphone are not capable of handling stuff like fixed positioning. talk to nintendo or apple if you want this changed.
Quote from arkarian:
taiga forum doesn't have sigs. i'm not saying it will never have them but there's no plans atm to add them. the main reason for this is the chatlike qualities of tf, and we thought it'd be good to be able to see several posts on a page rather than just a few. sigs do have some useful purposes, but to me they seem kinda 1999 (a cute feature that someone randomly came up with that somehow stuck). surely there are other ways of communicating information like what runs people are working on besides displaying it on every single one of everyone's posts and taking up tons of room.

I'm not sure I agree. Signatures are used for a variety of different purposes. One of which is to advertise some of one's own things to everyone who reads the posts. For example, a link to a list of current speed runs of a certain member.
If not by signatures, how do you propose to add this functionality? To me, signatures is a good thing that allows you to add a certain information to every post.
Of course, you may have to limit its size. But that's a different issue.

najzere: awesome, i didn't even think to look there. when i get the chance i'll check it out and see if i can find any better ones.

No, what I mean is maintaining a special style for these browsers. For example, everytime some functionality is added to the main theme, will it be added to the "special" theme used only be broken browsers?

of course. the only missing feature from the iphone style currently is static threads because there've been more pressing things for me to work on first.

basically, every time we add a new feature or make any change at all i have to do it by hand in 4 different html files and 8 different css styles.
No prob. You can probably find images that belong to a set across categories by searching the uploader's contributions or finding a more specific category on the file page. Also, please allow an extra appearance option to turn off the display of signatures if you end up adding them. Once again, great job on the new boards!

if sigs are ever added we will definitely do that.
The whole browser ordeal sucks. I'd rather see iCrap & whatnot unsupported. They should not be exempt from implementing standards. But I guess that's not reasonable?

Eh, also, some other things I've noticed recently.
- I don't think the "+/- size" text in the reply box should be "inside" the reply box. Sometimes text can obscure this text. Wouldn't it be better if it was outside the reply box?
- I miss a multi-quote feature Sad Replies are coming in so quickly now so there's no real danger of double posting, but for other times...
- I think the whole auto-update needs to be adjusted (but it's great!). Everytime a new reply comes up, the board scrolls down. Not a good idea if you're currently reading a reply! Furthermore, you can lose track of what posts you've read and which not when you leave the thread open for a while and come back (try it)! I think it would be better if it's somehow possible to add new replies and mark them as "new", but maintain the current position. That way, you could scroll down, read the replies at your leisure. You could probably add a similar scheme to edited posts, too.
- Speaking of which, there doesn't seem to be any feature to add a reason for editing posts. Don't know if I would use it, but I thought I'd point it out anyway for someone who does care.
- Another thing I've been wondering: if a post is edited, then is the topic marked as unread? In all other boards, this usually becomes a problem when someone edits the last post instead of posting a new reply since it won't bump the thread, to some, its contents gets lost forever since no one would check it (like me, who relies on unread posts).
Quits halfway
I was thinking of refreshing to see if anyone answered your stuff Mystery, I'm still stuck in the past >_>

+/- size is outside of the reply box for me. Using chrome.

Topics that are edited are marked unread. Just saw the metroid prime power beam thread in casual speedrunning get edited, icon went green. Didn't check if it appeared in the unread section, but I'd assume that it did.

Wow thought about refreshing in a new tab before hitting post. : ////

i agree. it would be great if they supported modern standards. but there has been a lot of interest in using tf on the iphone and we're not just going to ignore those people.

it actually is outside the box if your browser window is wide enough. i know this sucks but it's something i added really fast and never had the time to make better. i'll figure something out eventually.

not sure what you mean by this. you can just click the quote button on several posts to quote multiple people. did smf have something else involving quoting?

if you scroll up a little bit the page shouldn't scroll as much. ideally it wouldn't scroll at all, and it actually didn't used to before we started chopping off posts from the top of the page. hopefully we'll be able to put this feature back.

hmm, interesting. guess this is something we'd have to think more about.

this is interesting too. doesn't seem terribly important useful, but i believe i've seen this on other forum software too. so something to keep in mind.

yes.

oh yeah another thing worth mentioning is avatar galleries. you can now upload as many avatars as you want and even set it to randomly pick one every time you post.

if anyone doesn't like seeing a different avatar for eg every one of my posts, you can turn this off by checking the "Disable per-post random avatars" option in the appearance menu. with that checked you'll just see one avatar per user per page load.
It looks really good.

However, I went into stats and saw "Guest" at the top of the Top Thread Creators list. I think the forums think guests are part of one account.

Yes, it's pretty cool that it's auto-updating, isn't it? I love it.

Ah, I see it works if the browser window is wide enough. That's good.
Still, it needs some tweaking when the browser window is a little smaller.

Sounds good!

Oh. I didn't know that.
Still, when clicking two posts, it simple appends the text, so it becomes
[ quote ] ... [ /quote ][ quote ] ...
It would be better if it at least could add a newline or two, I think?

Yep, ideally. We can live with it, but I'd love to see it fixed.

I believe all popular forum software has it (?). vBulletin, Ikonboard, phpBB are some I know that has it.

Also, another thing. The reply box, when expanded just extends over the topic. Is that a good idea? Maybe the style should need some tweaking. It just doesn't seem right.

Ah, I was going to ask about the avatar thing. So that's how you do it! Basically you have different angles of the same character in different avatars and randomly pick one when posting. That's cool. Even cooler would be to have different avatars depicting the mood and choose one with your post.

lol that is awesome. guests are actually one "account" which is why you're seeing that. not sure why there would be so many threads created by guests though ... looks like a bug. also lol @ being able to view "guest"'s profile.

afaik quoting works just like it worked in smf, but maybe we should automatically add a newline in the post textarea after you insert a quote. seems like a good idea to me.

heh yeah this is another one of those "lol" things. main reason i did this was because expanded the bottom post area is actually a huge pain in the ass to code and probably wouldn't be worth it. i've actually grown to like it though ... it's not something you'll need to do very often usually and it works just fine.

Quote from Mystery:

haha yeah that would be really cute. i can't think of a way to do it though without taking up a ton of space/resources.

Because of this, you might be able to start a private thread with "guest"

You might want to prevent that.
gamelogs.org
wow ... you can, but the private thread doesn't show up. that's fucking hilarious, good catch.

It doesn't seem so hard to me.
Basically just put a new option in the post tables referring to which avatar (an id entry?) and some additional HTML?
gamelogs.org
i'm sure the back end would probably be easy. i'm thinking more of where i'd put that on the interface and would it really be worth it?

Mystery: 2010-08-14 11:02:49 am
I don't see it being so difficult, but the worth it question is still valid. Perhaps the forum users should vote, hm?
I just mentioned it because it would be awesome. Nate's avatar seems really suited for such a thing.
For the new posts that come in while you're in a different tab or farther up the screen, you could borrow a trick from Xchat and throw a red line above the first unread post so you can find where you haven't read yet. Or something visual that jumps out while you're scrolling.

@mystery: i guess i see stuff like that as fluff that doesn't really do much and just takes up resources -- for example every time you load a thread, you'd have to load all your avatars, and if you have 200 of them that becomes a problem. we like including cute stuff like avatar galleries but when it might affect performance it becomes a bad thing.

another interesting idea. something we can take a look at.

I have to say that the forum looks fantastic...  Its going to take some getting use to for sure, but I'm sure everyone can adjust...

One thing I wanted to ask about though in regards to our avatars...  I saw that Nate has multiple avatars on several posts, and I can see how that would work, but if there a way we can resize our original avatars, or will we have to resize it ourselves?
