can those dumb bars on the top and bottom at the VERY LEAST be an option to get to turn on or off in the profile settings or something ?? I want them off seriously.
or are we FORCED to have no choice ?
and i dont mean about switching to that iphone sceheme.

the iphone style is your only choice if you don't like that part of taiga forum. there aren't currently any plans to let you disable the fixed parts of the interface. one thing you can do though is customize the mainbar by clicking the pencil icon at the top left. you can put up to 10 links there to anywhere on the forum (or to any website in fact) or just remove them entirely.
one thing to mention for mobile users is that the iphone style atm does not support static threads at all. support for them is coming very soon, but they won't work like static threads in other styles -- the static post will appear at the top of every page but will scroll like normal. this is because ios safari doesn't support css fixed positioning for some reason.
i already clicked that little icon and deleted all the links possible....i just wish the whole freaking thing could be removed entirly cause it's so distracting to me...ughhhhhh
i dont need all this stuff being forced in my face like this.
Will there be a theme-editor in the near future? I enjoy the Willow themes the most, but the white background is going to burn through my retinas.
definitely. we're actually getting pretty close to releasing the styling kit. once it's out, anyone will be able to write their own css styles. i also plan on letting users change simple things like colors through a panel on the forum, but that's a ways off.
have you tried willow dark? it's the most like the old sda forum.
So the browser wars galore. Is it just iCrap or are there other browsers that don't like certain HTML/CSS styles that you use/want to use?
not sure what you mean ... only the iphone and other mobile devices don't support fixed positioning. all modern pc/mac browsers should work fine. currently taiga forum does not support internet explorer 7 (it's not a modern browser) but the forum should at least function on it. ie6 is totally hopeless and tf will probably never support it.
That's what I'm asking. Are there browsers that doesn't support certain styles (such as fixed positioning) that you want to use or are using? Like with the iCrap, it seems that you're going to have multiple versions of code/stuff to support all browsers. Or the question is: will you actually support those browsers which does not support the styles you need/want to use?
@mystery: all the styles are basically the same thing, just with different colors/fonts (so different css but not different html). all modern pc/mac/linux browsers support all the styles. it's only the wii, iphone, and some other mobile devices that can only use the iphone style. no current plans to give the iphone other styles because it can't support them.

Where can I find some of the posting options, like turn off smileys or attachments?
in the appearance menu there's a disable smilies option. no option to disable attachments atm, but that's a good idea. do you mean you'd just like to disable the automatic showing of attached images?
Allowing users to disable attachments would probably be a good idea, but actually, I was wondering if there was still a way to prevent accidentally posting a smiley, or if there was still a way to make an attachment (of say a blooper video) on a post.
you can attach up to 10 files to a post by clicking the paper clip icon beneath the post box. if you disable smilies then there should be no way for you to accidentally post a smiley afaik.
another thing that i'm not sure was mentioned yet is that you can ignore boards/threads (so they're never marked unread). just click the the triangle icon beside the board/thread name and you'll see the option there. for example, i never read the quake, pc, or tech support boards so now i can open unread in tabs without getting stuff i don't care about.
Geez, how the hell did I miss that paperclip? I guess because it was off to the right. Stupid me.
Yeah, but others who have smileys enabled would still see all of my accidental smileys. If I want to type a semicolon and then a parenthetical, for whatever reason, it'd be nice to be able to prevent that from becoming an emoticon image for those who can still see them. I guess I can just live with it, but I figured this would be easy to solve.
New questions:
What happened to signatures? If I want to list my speedruns in my posts (so everyone can see them without having to click on my profile or what not), a sig used to be the best place for this.
Is there a way for users to shrink avatar images without hiding them altogether? I'd like to see them still, but for short posts they stretch the size of the post and take up a lot of unnecessary room. Not a big deal, just curious.
Sorry for all the posts. I'm just doing a lot of experimenting.
Is there a legend to explain the symbols to the left of thread names? I'm also having a hard time telling if there are still stickies or not. Do they look different from normal threads?

actually i'm wondering the same thing ... m2k2 forum doesn't convert stuff like :) to graphical smilies -- it only uses formats like  and [aiwebs_032] -- not sure why sda's smiley set isn't the same as m2k2's and every other taiga forum's.

taiga forum doesn't have sigs. i'm not saying it will never have them but there's no plans atm to add them. the main reason for this is the chatlike qualities of tf, and we thought it'd be good to be able to see several posts on a page rather than just a few. sigs do have some useful purposes, but to me they seem kinda 1999 (a cute feature that someone randomly came up with that somehow stuck). surely there are other ways of communicating information like what runs people are working on besides displaying it on every single one of everyone's posts and taking up tons of room.

yep. appearance menu. can be as small as 64x64 or as large as 120x120. i prefer 72x72 myself.

check the bottom of the forum index.
i know the current thread icon set sucks -- basically i haven't had much time to look for a better one. if anyone knows of any free and better sets that can be used legally by taiga forum let me know.
I'll guess the top and bottom bars are position:fixed?, make it possible to force them to be position:relative (and appear at the top/bottom of the page respectively), or at least to have them "minimized" to a corner by default.
Thanks arkarian. I keep forgetting about the appearance menu because you only get those specific kinds of options for it when you're actually viewing a thread. When I click on appearance out at the index, all I get is theme choice. *bonks himself on forehead*

It's silly to have exclusive styles to support a few browsers that are broken (ie does not support well used styles) such as Wii, iCrap, etc. Do you plan on supporting these browsers?
