We don't need this post anymore either.
I once owned this game myself a while ago. I have seen the current run for this and a run for SF2 online elsewhere. I enjoy them. Good luck with it.
Thanks man! SF if a great game even though the controls are not the best, and the story is a bit corny. I love this game and it's one of my favorites.
I have been recording all weekend, both the speedrun and some bass and vocaltracks for my band haha Wink
Got quite a lot done , I'm about half way through the game right know and about 3 min faster than the current run.
I have to say I'm quite satisfied with the run so far, keeping in mind that I play the PAL-version Smiley
First, I say Good luck ! It's been a long time since someone made serious attempts and I can't wait to see a new run. ^^ I posted this some months ago in the old SF1 thread, this "Warehouse 76" time is faster than the current run so if it can help you...

My mistake ><'
Thank you!
Oh, so it was you that made the video? I saw the video a couple of months ago and I have to say I'm impressed, especially by the roll through the fire and on to the elevator, that was really cool!
I found the first shortcut through the fire before I saw your video, but I used the "pause-glitch" to survive the fire, if you know what I mean Wink
You can save a lot of time using these shortcuts, so it will be very useful Smiley

Also, I saw that you 2 have found the "rolling trick", nice! I found it myself a year ago by misstake haha. You can try to do the roll on the first Expo Center level. In the big room with the slope there is a guard with a keycard standing on the 2nd floor (you use the elevator in the rocketroom to go up there). If you stand close to the edge and roll out where the guard drops a keycard,  you can land on the slope without dying. Then you can go back all the way to the room where you killed Benton, or at least to the fence that screens of the room.
Unfortunately it dosen't save any time, but I thought it was cool anyway Smiley

Just a tip: you dont have to strafe when you roll, at least not if your going straight over a gap, it works just fine facing the gap forward Smiley
gl with the run Tongue i played the crap out of this game as a kid
Remember your mantra.
I thought about doing a run of this a while ago, casually speaking. Its a fun one.

Anyway, just showing support. Good luck!
How are you doing so far ? ^^
Hello again!
Thanks for the support.
I didn't record anything last week due to lack of time, but I have just now completed the first 2 parts of Stronghold. It was roughly about 15-20 seconds faster than the previous run, so I'm quite happy about that. I'm thinking about doing another try on Stronghold Lower Levels, but the current run is fine.
There's a little funny trick know for Stronghold lower level, but it's pretty useless in a speedrun. If you let yourself fall on the head of a guard in the room where Gabe jump out of the cathedral, you'll survive and will be at the end of the level, but without killing the remaining scientists, you can't finish the level. (...and backtracking takes too much time.)

Keep up the good work. ^^
Finnished Stronghold Catacombs and Pharcom Warehouse, only 5 more to go!
Catacombs is the longest level in the game, but not the hardest (although it probably took me 2-3 hours of recording before I got a run that I was satisfied with)
Lost about 15-20 sec comparing to Aaron's run, it may seem alot, but since the PAL-version runs a bit slower I don't think that I could do it much faster than that (and his run was also very good).

Pharcom Warehouse went pretty well, I think I did it about 12-13 sec faster than Aaron so I have almost made up with the loss of time in the Catacombs.
Thanks to skychase2reberith's tip about landing on enemies head's when jumping from a height, I discovered that you can roll off the ledge were you cut off the power to the fences and onto an enemy, instead of climbing down as you normaly would do. The trick saves a couple of seconds, but since it's quite tricky to pull off, and I already had a good run for that level, I decided not to try it while doing the run.
I'd like to see your run for Rhoemer's Base. Back when I wanted to run Syphon Filter 1 myself, I started with Rhoemer's Base and managed to shave six to seven seconds off Aaron's time.

Keep it up!

I haven't copied anything from my DVD to the computer yet, but when I'm done with the game I'll probably upload a few videos, I can put up my run on Rhoemer's Base if you want to see it Smiley
I think my time is about 3:02 - 3:03 on that level, over a minute faster that the previous run and probably the biggest improvment of all the levels in the game.

Pharcom Elite Guards done in 2:30, about 8 seconds faster than the previous run.
Warehouse 76 went really fast, it took only 1 minute (thanks again to skychase2reberith for discovering the major shortcut near the end of the level)!
And Silo Access Tunnel took 3:30, about 20 seconds faster.

I am currently 4:30 ahead of Aaron at the moment. With just 2 short levels to go, I'm pretty shure I can beat his time Wink

If anyone is interrested about my times, here they are:
Georiga Street: 3:55
Destroyed Subway: 2:09
Main Subway Line: 0:03
Washington Park: 5:20
Freedom Memorial: 0:09
Expo Center Reception: 6:23
Expo Center Dinorama: 1:43
Rhomer's Base: 3:02
Base bunker: 2:03
Base Tower: 1:00
Base Escape: 1:02
Rhomer's Stonghold: 6:08
Stonghold Lower Levels: 6:00
Stonghold Catacombs: 8:29
Pharcom Warehouse: 4:25
Pharcom Elite Guards: 2:30
Warehouse 76: 1:00
Silo AccessTunnel: 3:30

I have timed it from the frame were character control starts to the frame were the screen starts to fade, please correct me if I'm doing wrong.
Aaron has posted his times in another thread here on the forum, but he has timed both from were the brefingscreen starts, and for the levels with in-game timer he has timed it from the beginning of character control wich I found a bit odd.
I have used the same method to time his runs as I did with my own, from when character control starts to were it ends.
Socially awkward ;P
Warehouse 76 in 1 min, that's amazing O_O ! Good job.
Yeah it's fast, but I'm sure that it can be done 1, maybe 2 seconds faster.

Anyway, I finished the 2 remaining levels of the game, the run is complete! Cheesy
Tunnel Blackout took 1:51 (god I hate that level so much!) and Missile Silo 2:13.

This run was about 4:45 faster than Aarons, I'm very suprised that I did it so much faster than him, even though I played the PAL-version.
It has been both fun and very frustrating to make this run, but in the end I'm glad I pulled it off Smiley
J.Y, put some of your runs, even if they're works in progress, on YouTube or something.

Alright, here's my run on Rhoemer's Base. It may be a bit laggy at some points but it's just a testvideo. Enjoy! Wink

Edit:
Adding 2 more videos, Pharcom Elite Guards & Warehouse 76

Hey ! great news, I just discovered a away to get through the burning vehicle in "Base escape", clipping FTW. My new beta-tester job finally pays off ;P.

Edit: Awesome videos J.Y, I can't wait to see it completely ^^.

Edit2: Here's the new shortcut video:
Thanks dude!

Holy shit, how did you do that?!
I've tried to find a way to get through there when I did my run but I did not succeed. Thats a big timesaver there, my hats is off to you!
Man I got to try this myself haha!
Bravo on the Warehouse 76 run. Every time I run through even a few pixels of fire myself, my Gabe Logan is like tissue paper. So annoying when trying to run through levels with fire.
Strange days, incredible days
I'm not sure how I missed all this, I've been away from SDA for too long, hahah.

Congratulations on your time! I'll be honest, I was surprised there was enough interest in this game for someone to step up and challenge my run. There were a few runners who showed an interest, but after six years, I figured I was locked in Tongue  That said, I'm thrilled at the amount of time saved! Back in 2006, I figured there was 40 seconds, maybe a minute to be saved based on my route. There've been some really neat shortcuts discovered since then, obviously, but from the sound of things, better play has contributed a lot. I'm still happy with my run as a whole, but it could've been tighter, especially the early levels.

I don't remember using two different timing standards (one for briefing, one for start of player control) but it's certainly possible. If I used the start of the briefing screen, it's because I was used to TASVideos and thought timing began from "power on" like with those. That's why I zip through the memory card menu so fast on some of my segments too.

-Great work on Rhoemer's Base, I had the hardest time with those guards on alert mode. Better route as well.
-Also great Warehouse 76 run. I've always had horrible luck with fire in this game, so I assumed fire skips were out.
-Did you have to turn up the in-game brightness in Tunnel Blackout? I honestly couldn't see anything, even with TV brightness way up.
-The Catacombs suck, 100% agreed. I was so glad when I figured out how to make Lian run instead of walk. Phagan still pisses me off.

Can't wait to see this! I doubt I'll try to beat it, but I might try some of these strategies next time I play the game, just to see Tongue

Thank you!
I have to say I was suprised that there were no one who had given it a try to beat your run in so many years, but than again SF is not the most famous game out there. I not saying your run is bad, but I saw potential in doing it better Smiley

About the timing: In your old thread you put up the times for all levels, I compared a cuple of them and it seems that you have used the "in-game timer" on Warehouse 76 but not on the others, thats why I got a bit confused.
Also I don't know how the time went from 1:08xx-1:09xx up to 1:14:27 when the run was submitted because you can clearly see that it says "1:06" on the loading screen Shocked
Aha, so thats why you scroll so fast between the savestates! I know what TASvideos is but I have never used it myself.

I was very suprised when I found out that you could just run straight through Rhoemer's Base without thousands of guards attacking you. But it's still not easy to pull off since the game randomly decides where some of the guards show up from time to time, I probably did between 50 and 70 tries before I got one that was fast enough.

On Warehouse 76, I found out about the first roll through the fire myself, but I used the "pause-glitch" to pull it off.
I owe it to Skychase2rebirth who was the one that found out how to do this more consistently, and how to roll onto the elevator.

I did not turn up the brightness in the game on Tunnel Blackout. I thought I could save some time if I managed to play the level without having to pause the game. I dont think I messed with the TV-brightness either actually. I had to memorise the entire level and only play it when it was dark outside, it took some hours of traning and sloppy tries before I got it done haha.
