What he said. You'll get a PM about it when it's available. It's not always a fast process.

I tried messaging a couple staff members to volunteer to be a verifyer for this run, but I haven't received any responses. Is it possible to message me your entire run and I can verify it in this thread?

Thanks for volunteering, I see that your question has already been answered by other members, I appreciate that you are willing to help me Smiley
Thought I'd give this thread a little bump since I'm still looking for verifiers.
If you are interested, check out the Verification Thread here:
http://forum.speeddemosarchive.com/post/runs_needing_verification_77_new_runs_oct._22_2012.html

I've also uploaded another preview of the run, here's Base Tower!

Strange days, incredible days
Would it be considered a conflict of interest for me to help verify this, since it would replace my run on the site if it was accepted? I would have no problem with this whatsoever, I'm just curious if that's something SDA takes into account. I've never heard anything about it one way or the other.
I AM FUCKED ANGRY
DO IT !!! There is no problem. And this is good, because you are knowing enough of running this game. The run-time will accept or reject. Wink
I can not beliefe it
It would be an honor if you would help me verify this run Aaron Smiley
But since I've played the European version, would this be considered a different category?
Strange days, incredible days
Just saw the run, great job! There are more skips and shortcuts in this game than I realized. Makes me wonder if there are others we haven't found yet. Also makes me a little tempted to pick this game up again.

Some thoughts and comments on the run:
-Rolling while turning around is a smart timesaver, dunno why it didn't occur to me.

Level 2: Seems we were both cautious on the climbing section, it might be possible to get consistently quick at it. This game's turning/climbing controls are so clunky though.
Level 4: Interesting, you can totally abandon the first CBDC agent, but with the others it seems you have to kill the entire wave of guards. Do we know if this is purely a timed segment or if the Objective Completed trigger won't happen until X guards are dead?
Level 5: Did I ever switch aim controls? Good god, it's been so long since I played this.
Level 6: Smart to collect the HK-5 ammo during the stealth section. Always wondered if skipping the ammo box was an option, but it's 4 seconds and makes things so much easier. I'm not sure why I went to the left side of the Mars lander room.
Level 7: Is dropping from the left side of the catwalk faster? It looks that way, at a glance.
Level 8: I always had horrible luck with alert mode on this level, but I have to admit it's much simpler. All those scripted guards are removed as soon as the alarm goes off. Nice work.
Level 10: Definitely worth researching whether 2-cycle is possible, but this is done well.
Level 12-13: I don't clearly remember some of the route in these levels, particularly the start of 13, when you have to make that loop to get scientists and test patients. I'd have to play it again (or compare against my run directly) to get an understanding of what you did differently. These are fun levels to speedrun though, because it's a test of endurance as well as skill, without a lot of RNG to mess it up.
Level 14: Never occurred to me to take the alternate path around the two guards in the hallway. When I played this game casually, I got caught constantly in the first section, so I never deviated from the path I found that worked. The timer is fixed though so it doesn't matter, just interesting.
This level sucks, we both know it. It's possible to get an incredibly good run where everything goes right and shave 30 seconds or more off of it, but eventually you have to get on with it.
Level 16: I didn't remember the grenade guard at all, so I don't know what manipulating his spawn entails. How much time did it save vs. my run, any idea?
That rooftop skip is awesome. Great find no matter when you came up with it Smiley
I don't remember which guards I skipped and which ones I shot, but I remember there was a pattern to it. Some just don't have enough time to lock onto you, like if they just come around a corner as you go past it. Sometimes you'd have a chance to kill one and another one further down, only stopping once. I had a method for it but it was 7 years ago, I'd have to play it again. You got those headshots super quick though, I don't think you lost much if any time.
Level 17: The skips in this level are still nuts.
Level 18: Strong play, skipping the guards at the end was smart, same with 19, should've tried that.
Level 19: This level looks brighter than I remember. Maybe it was my old TV? I dunno, but I couldn't stand not being able to see anything. I guess I'd have to memorize it like you did if I ran it now, or just turn up my TV brightness more.
Level 20: Also never occurred to me to get the gas grenades first, then trigger the missile detonation. Nice work avoiding the guards in the first room too, they would slaughter me when I tried it.

Well done, a better route with some awesome skips and tighter play. A few more minutes are possible to shave off, and there might be more skips to be found, too. I doubt sub-1 hour is possible, but how great would it be if it was?

Any plans for this game in the future? I'm not sure if I'm gonna try another run, but I think it might be fun to look for shortcuts and route updates at least.
I should let J.Y reply first since its his run, but what the hell:

It is possible! I did it on the first try a couple of weeks ago, but I'm sure that it was a lot of luck based there as well since I've only been able to recreate it once after that. It's pretty cool though, you should give it a try yourself Smiley
I AM FUCKED ANGRY
very good work, like it Smiley

Finally my english uncut PAL copy was come for 2 days ago to me, so I had sell my spanish uncut pal copy.
Thanks! It feels great to finally having a run on SDA, even though the run can be done a bit faster. I'm currently working on a run on Alien 3 for the Sega Mega Drive, but as soon as I'm finished with that I'll get back to SF Smiley

I'm not sure if you have to kill a specific number of guards, but I do think that a certain number of guards need to appear before the CBDC agent can defuse the bomb. Not sure how many though.

Level 5: Did I ever switch aim controls? Good god, it's been so long since I played this.

Even if you switch to "normal" aim when you start the game, you'll be forced to do it again when you load a mission. That is, if you havent saved a game when you've already got the normal aim on. So at some point I had to pause the game and switch invert aim off, because you cant start a new game, change to normal aim, quit, and then start a new game and still have the invert aim off. I'm not sure if this problem only occur on the PAL version of the game.
On SF2 and SF3 you can save a file just for settings which is a lot better since you only have to change aim once.

As my brother said, it is absolutly possible! I watched him when he got the helicopter on just 2 cycles and I was really excited, but also a bit bummed because he did it before me Wink

I don't think you save that much time when you kill the grenade guard before you climb (or roll) down to place the last beacon, but is't a lot easier if you do it before because it's easier to get killed if he's standing there and throwing grenades at you.

Even though it would be really awsome, I highly doubt that you can complete the game in less than an hour. At least not on the PAL verison, but than again it seems as the NTSC version runs equally fast so it's probably impossible... Unless there is some major skips that haven't been found yet Wink
I know that skychase2reberith tried to find a way down through the elevator on Rhoemer Stronghold without completing the objectives, but I think he hasen't found a way yet.

Socially awkward ;P
Congratulations ! I hope I can be a verifier again if there's another run someday, it was great. ^^

I thought I'd post two TOTALLY useless bugs here for the occasion.

I was thinking about something, I have an OPM Issue with a complete SF guide with more detailed maps. Is it worth posting ?

Edit: I'm pretty sure we can't finish a level without completing the objectives now. -_-

Edit2: I've found a more consistant/safer way of taking the shortcut in Base Escape. ^^

Edit:3 New little shortcut in Warehouse 76.
Thank you!
Haha, the second weird bug was hillarious! I've found a couple of places where you can fall through the floor, but it seems as you allways die when you hit the "ground below".

I haven't read a SF guide before,  even if it wouldn't be useful in a speedrun, it would still be fun to read anyway Smiley
I did a couple attempts at the shortcut on Base Escape, but i caught on fire and died probably 49 of 50 attempts so I would really like to see a better way of doing it Smiley Wink
I'm guessing that the new shortcut in Warehouse 76 is right after the checkpoint where the burning guard comes rushing out? Or maybe right after that?
Socially awkward ;P
Some new weird bugs.

Seems like the climb down animation can be delayed to be used in mid-air. If mastered I think it can become useful in the future.
Few useless map holes and "stuck spots" too.

Now, the base escape trick:

You must hug the fence, climb, tap "left" and roll while holding R2. If done correctly, you can roll on the truck which is easier than rolling through it. (I even managed to roll on it without touching the fire once)

Oh, and the new shortcut in Warehouse 76 requires too much armor, it only works if the run is "perfect"... It may be used in a TAS though.

I'll scan the guide soon. ^^
Nice trick!
I had to test it myself, and as you said, it was a lot eaiser than rolling through the truck. I suffered quite a lot form the flames though, maybe it's because of me playing on a real console, with lag and such. But it worked!

You haven't thought about doing a TAS then? Wink

Sadly, I can't run SF1 on PSXjin and PCSX-rr, I always get stuck on a black screen after it says "989 studios". At least, epsxe works perfectly.

Edit: One of the bugs in my video allow you to change weapon without changing the one you have in your hands, it means you can keep your flash light while holding a gun, it can be useful in Tunnel blackout. You just have to press select and triangle at the same time, the climbing animation will cancel the weapon switch animation. ^^
It's been a while since I posted last here, but I thought I would share a little update.
Me and DanE did a somewhat casual SS run of the game today, and even though there were a lot of mistakes (I haven't played the game for months), we completed the game in 1:28:31. As far as I know it's probably the fastest time someone has ever completed the game in a single session. It was exciting to brake the 1:30:00 mark, but the time can easily be improved by at least 5 minutes.

I'm thinking more and more about making a SS run, maybe it wouldn't be as hard as I thought... Wink
Strange days, incredible days
Awesome! I've been thinking about doing some SS attempts, but I don't have recording equipment for consoles, so it would just be to re-learn the game and see what kind of time I could get. I think I've only played the game once or twice since my 2006 run, but I suspect it would come back pretty quick.
You got kind of bored with the game after doing the run? Wink
No but I think it would come back pretty quick, at least if does it for me. I don't know about the speed differance between NTSC and PAL, maybe NTSC loads a bit faster but they are probably pretty comparable. You should give it a try!
Fjölpärsk
SS race hype starts now! Wink
I've been practising a bit this week, and some new timesavers have been found. Hopefully I can start recording soon, this is getting exciting again!
More glitches found! Video comming soon.
Awesome, I'd like to help so much but I don't even have time for myself recently. Hopefully, I won't be working 72h/week forever. ><'
Alright, here's the OoB glitch on Rhomer's Base!

(The audio seems to be a bit out of sync, I'll fix it later).

By doing the roll from a certain distance to the ledge, you can get a boost which makes it possible to go over the invisible wall and land on the other side. I almost freaked out when I found this earlier this week, it was so exiting to finally find a way go OoB without falling through the floor and die (which you can do at a lot of places in the game).

As you see in the video, when I walk backwards the whole level dissapears in front of me, leaving me on a small island with nowhere to go.
You can move around a bit more if you run to the left or right side of the outside walls of the base, but sadly enough you can't go that far without falling to your death.
If there's a way to trigger the Base escape cut scene, you could skip the entire base! I've searched for it but so far I haven't found anything.
Still, a nice glitch Smiley

Also, I found a way to save quite some time on the sneaking part of Expo Center Reception!

This saves about 30 seconds in a run, and it's not hard to execute either. I did a test run of the whole level using this method, and together with some other small improvements I completed the level 40 seconds faster then the last time (timing from the briefing screen to the savescreen appears). This was done on one of my old PS1 consoles, so my guess is that this segment could be improved by 45 seconds or more with a PS2 Smiley
Strange days, incredible days
So I'm starting to re-learn this game in anticipation of doing a SS run of it. Still no recording equipment, but I'll be looking into that soon. In the meantime, it's been fun to start playing it again.

Don't have a SS time yet, just drilling the levels to try and remember how to play this game Tongue
Thats cool! I'm also planning to do a SS run, nice to see someone else who want's to take on the challenge Smiley

I've actually started to record new segments about a week ago, but I'm having problems with bad audio sync and some fps drops, it makes the sound
pendulate in pitch all the time. Fucking capture card Angry
I might try record onto the DVD once again, hopefully it wont affect the video quality too much.

Btw, I came across Shin's videos and found a big timesaver on Base Tower. You can skip the audio dialog between Lian and Rohmer by simply pause and unpause the game, making the chopper appear a lot quicker! I don't know if you've seen it before, maybe you forgot about it when you did your run?
