In my Mario Galaxy run, I've done 8 out of 16 segments at this point, and so far they've all been recorded in 4:3 resolution. Recently, though, I've realized that recording in 16:9 is not a problem, since there's an Anri-chan option for it and everything.
However, will changing from 4:3 to 16:9 in the middle of a run have any technical repercussions - for example, related to encoding the run or putting it up for download?
And if there aren't any technical repercussions, will there be style-related consequences? For example, someone downloads the run and notices the change in screen size... will they appreciate the change to the larger screen, or will they view the change as an unneeded inconsistency (if that makes sense)?
Also, there are slight gameplay related differences between 4:3 and 16:9, because more of the game area is on-screen in 16:9. But I think the differences will be minimal for the speedrun, considering how long the whole run will be (over 2.5 hours). See the bottom of this post for details, though I might summarize that post by saying I think the screen size choice is mostly stylistic.
