I do not believe anyone will get 0 deaths, its just too easy to die and the game is so forgiving in terms of quick respawning that it isnt really necessary.
I don't care if the 0:00 glitch exists. Yeah, I'd most likely use meat boy because he's the fastest character and I have the best control with him. I doubt there are many levels that switching characters would save time anyway. You can generally tell what times are hacked and which are not. I would love for the game to have unglitched/unhacked times, but it's just not gonna happen with this kinda thing.
Heh, there's actually a LOT of levels where switching is beneficial. Like, a tooooon of levels. Do not underestimate it
Has anyone confirmed if the replay/leaderboards difference is exactly .10? I checked about 3 and they were all .10, but considering this is a glitch, I have no reason to assume it's exactly the same amount every time. If someone could check and confirm, that'd be great ^_^
And btw, hi to everyone here! I'll probably be sticking around for quite a while! Is there actually significant interest in doing character-specific leaderboards here? I'd participate for fun. We'd probably have to sort the replay thing out though since I'd assume most levels would be worse than our best overall times.
I think for SDA runs the game should be run by total chapter time rather than level time, since that would allow some margin for error while be still skillfully fast, though IL runs would be an option as well. It depends on what people want. I know I'll probably be spending tons of time on this game when it comes out on PC.

Do you know if anyone plans to start a thread in the PC section for times on SMB? As far as I know, there's not going to be in game leaderboards like on 360. I'd like to see how the PC scene does compared to the Xbox/Wii players.
7th place online in Omega (levels 6-5X) dark world... ie: 23 seconds or so. The nickname I was under was "Benjeezy13"
I can't even believe the top times. Holy crap. It's mainly just one jump that's the issue, but wow. I could have beaten the #1 time if I did the end quickly, I don't think I'll get to the end like that again though. It's just nonsense.

So you're playing on 360 now and then switching to Wii? Is that what you said? Do you plan on just posting times here for Wii, or is there anywhere else Wii gamers usually compare times that's better than here? Like I said about PC, I'm really curious at seeing how players from different platforms do compared to 360. I've never really been involved in speed running before, so I'm eager to be here from the beginning putting up some decent times (lost all of my #1's by now after a week of not playing, but I still have some okay ones!) and whatnot!
Barring a few select games, SDA is usually the place to talk about playing quickly
That's what I figured. I really hope SMB picks up some steam here on the multiple platforms, and we eventually have a very active and helpful thread here for anyone looking to improve their scores I run the Super Meat Boy thread on Major League Gaming, which is one of the world's biggest tournament leagues, but our non-tournament-game section is quite small in comparison I'll be lurking here quite a bit if the thread picks up.
Yeah I want to start an IL table here. that'd be sweet.
I'm willing to take the time to post all my times here if there's demand for it. It would be a decent place to start I guess. Though the leaderboards are pretty easy to tell which times are legit and which aren't. Hoping it stays this way until the glitches are fixed and the bad times removed.
Yeah, I'm trying to start an IL table... or at least the times I've gotten for various stages.
So far these are the ones I've practiced and have decent times: 1-12: 2.50 6-5 - 16.80 6-5x - 23.87 7-2: 5.08
There are sooo many levels. World 1 times are pretty much maxed and or hacked now though. I'd like to attach videos to each IL time here if possible. Unfortunately, since I'm playing the game at my friend's place, I can't record any of my times yet.
I'm sure I have more times.
Check the leaderboards for any "Benjeezy" times. I don't think I was on xbox live when setting a bunch of them though. I don't really know what's on there for those. Next time I play at my friend's, I should probably just have a piece of paper with me to write down all the times I get.
Also, for those who don't know me, I speedrun all the old Mario titles, so I'm pretty good at platforming and that's the main reason I'm playing this game. It's so fun!!!
I'd highly suggest saving replays or writing down your times, since the 0.00 bug can happen by accident and prevent you from uploading legit times afterwords.
Once more people unlock him, competing for Meat Ninja times might be fun on levels he can abuse teleport. You can't upload leaderboard scores while using him so it's forum ILs or nothing.
Bad news if you're waiting for the Wii version though, Team Meat twittered today that it's delayed indefinitely while they try to deal with the WiiWare file size restriction. You may want to start considering the PC version instead.
But yeah, sick times and I'm sure you'll keep owning once you get your own copy When my scores get closer to what they're going to pretty much stay at for a while, I'll put em all in an Excel document or something. Hopefully I can copy paste from there and have it fit here okay.
Did you use Meat Boy for that time or another character? I bet my times my be improvable with other characters
Oh, yeah that level definitely favors some other characters. Didn't realize that was just Meat Boy.
So yeah, speaking of which, I mentioned this earlier but would anyone be interested in starting a character-specific leaderboard here? Personally I love Flywrench, so I'd be willing to do runs with him for fun on levels where he's not ideal. Let me know! :] Be back tomorrow morning.
I unfortunately haven't collected all too many bandages for whatever reason. I haven't played all that much I guess since I don't own it.
I'd love to try out some other characters. I, for some reason, assumed Meat Boy was the fastest for like every stage.
Nah definitely not Which is a good thing, because I think I'd be bored if it was 300 levels of Meat Boy. I like the variety! I like it so much that I'm kinda itching to just put up some character specific times for ch1-5 ^_^
I think we should just have a list of the fastest times on stages no matter what character it is. I spent so much time with some levels already and I'm sure other characters can beat the times. so unfair hahaha
Also, yeah, variety is cool. It'll be interesting to see which characters are best for certain levels.
So I do want to do a 100% run... when this comes out for wii. It IS eventually gonna come out on Wii right??? The game is so difficult though. Completing levels sometimes is a real challenge. After I complete a level, playing through it again usually isn't so bad though.
I think we should go by the leaderboard because if/when they DO fix the glitch, it would go that way. They're not just gonna scale all the leaderboard times back to the replays ~.10 seconds. However, if we're doing character-specific, I'm not sure what we'd do, since obviously like I said earlier you probably will be getting a lower time. Like if I went through and did a SMB-only run right now, a HUGE chunk of the levels would be slower than my best.
Anyways, I'll post my times as a starting place soon then. You'll notice right off the bat that some (all? heh) are pretty bad >_>
More than anything I think it would actually be helpful to have an IL CHARACTER list instead of a time list. You could spend 10 hours on a level perfecting it but if there's a better character, chances are your time won't stand up to it Problem right now is that the leaderboards are bugged so many display SMB when in fact another character was ideal. That means we'll have to keep track of it manually here until the patch.
edit: Also I think it's a good idea to hold off on the bosses timing because I don't think ANYONE has really cared to do any serious runs. With like 300 normal levels to conquer, I think we should just stick to figuring those times out first without needing manual timing
Question, does the overall leaderboard count your warp zone times and whatnot? I know they're in the calculations for level COUNT, but does the actual time factor in too? I guess that would also mean bosses count. Can anyone test?
edit: and warps, and bosses....and eventually there could be IL's for the different characters too :O this is gonna be bigger than the SMG2 IL table lol
I'm not going to participate in any warp or boss speed running but yeah I'm sure some people here will. Yeah, there's teh internets too. Listed the main levels mostly because that's what counts towards the overall leaderboards online. In the long run, I'm more concerned with speed running levels that count towards that rather than the extras, I think. However the next internet pack does sound cool, it's a Gish level pack!
