Long live SF64!
To see what runs are already in the archive go to speeddemosarchive.com > Games > Super Nintendo from dropmenu > Super Mario World...(http://speeddemosarchive.com/MarioWorld.html) ...you will see that a pure speedrun and a 100% run have already been done.  These have actually been done many times and the current records are pretty solid I believe.

This "small" run is an attempt to beat the game as fast as possible without collecting any mushrooms, flowers, or feathers, no checkpoints, and no sitting on a yoshi.  You should read the thread...it's like some great story unfolding...
To Speedrun... or not to Speedrun...
Interesting.... I will have to read the thread then Smiley

I've got my "most accused of being a TAS" vote ready. Wink
This made me smile.

I don't really care why it is accepted. It was said it will be and that is enough for me. If I had to guess though the reasons would be it is a popular game,

The idea of never picking up mushrooms, yoshis etc, plus never touching a mid-way to get big, does seem like a cool take on a "low%" run for this game
, and a different route is forced.

The biggest problem I have is not completing levels, they are pretty much all easy for me now, but when I put the VHS in I mess up on easy parts because I freak out like "Oh no, I'm going to mess up!" Then I mess up.

I had this problem too.  The cure is: practice only while recording, so you get used to not having that security blanket.  You'll notice that you take the same risks without inhibition eventually.

Good luck with the run, low% runs are my favorite!
everybody wanna tell you the meaning of music

Of course, the biggest reason to always record, is that you don't ever want to have made a great practice run and not have recorded it...
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Good luck in SW4. Hope you get it all soon!
zzzzzzzzzz
I just want to contribute some encouragement on my part as well.  I think this run is going to remind people of the Mario 64 70-star run in the impressiveness of its tricks.
Take This! Ultra Frisbee-Disk Attack!
I think a run of that kind would be awesome and a hell of a feat when completed. That type of run takes a lot of time, patience, and hard work, which most of the runs obviously take. Go for it!
Long live SF64!
So Jimsfriend, what's the status? Are you able to record yuor runs now, and if so, what kind of progress are you making?  Are you still doing daily runthroughs of your path?  How's the successfulness of the two main tricks?

Sorry about all the questions, but I'd love to know what's going on...
I can just mention a little timesaver in castle #1... You can jump over the lava hole that is just before the checkpoint. Nor the TAS or the Speedrun did it. It's simple like ****... Tongue
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Tompa,

Please explain how.

If you're talking about wall jumping, then the any% TAS does that, as well as jumping over the first big lava pit using the p-switch. I'm not sure if wall jumping would be feasible in a speedrun, but I highly doubt it.

If you're not talking about wall jumping, I'm very skeptical, but go ahead.

Edit: My guess was PAL version. I don't know why I didn't say it originally. Tongue
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Yeah wall jumping isn't "simple like ****" so I doubt that's what he's talking about.

Also, the TAS does not walljump, it's faster to grab the net and then start running, which is what is done. It's only slightly faster than a wall jump though, like 6 or 8 frames if I recall correctly.

It's no wall jumping! You know where the place is, right? The lava hole with the coins above... You can just run and jump over and land with you speed on the ground on the other side.
Do I need to explain it even better? Even do a movie...?  Tongue
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Yes I will need to see a movie of this. If you're not joking.
Ok... I will record... It will be an emulator movie thought. Can't upload it otherwise. But it works on console too.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Emulator is fine, even preferred. Here is a great uploader for emulator movies, in case you didn't know about it.
LOL! It's only working in the European version!! It works on my consol (PAL) but no on the NTSC Rom. I downloaded the PAL rom too, and it worked...
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Alright, mystery solved then Smiley
Do you jump higher in Pal then? Huh?
You want me to upload the movie anyway?
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
No it's fine, you don't need to.

PAL and NTSC have different frame rates. What this means is that during any given second, if you compare the two versions with each other, not the exact same thing happens. Most of the time the differences are too small to notice, but in some extreme cases things are possible with the PAL version but not on NTSC. Another well known example is in Super Metroid, where you can escape from a room where the door is about to close, meaning you can skip the mini-boss in there.

Yeah, the room where you get the Morth Bomb:D.
But anyway... that explains why not the Speedrun or the TAS did it ::).

EDIT: AAHH. I love all the wonderful bugs in this game ;D. Carrying stuff on Yoshi, make new blocks, two Yoshis on the same screen, falling down the floor etc. Just Lovely ;D.
bläää
Tompa and his brother... hehe. But PAL mario games doesn´t jump longer. Its something else.. you could probably jump higher on NTSC. I haven´t figuried out exactly how it works. guess it have something to do with the "full screen" that NTSC games have  =P
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Tompa, then I think you will like the new 96 exit TAS that's being done (by me). Some never-seen-before very time saving bugs will be included. I have like two thirds of the game left to do and am working extremely slowly though, so it'll be a while.
I knew that you are doing a TAS of it, but nothing about the bugs ;D. I hope I can learn some new ones :-*.
