It'd be totally awesome to see you do a totally awesome speedrun of this game and get the record again.
Gogogo for it!
alright, so I'm definitely having some issues with Bowser. I can't seem to get this right. I'm gonna have to practice this a ton until I get it down perfectly. Beside Bowser, I'm doing pretty well 8)
hi, i played Super Mario World 100% (nono i wont do a ss speedrun, i played the game j4f). I finished it with 89 levels, now I watched the Speedrun and I saw at the end of the movie that the speedrunner had a star in front of the 89, why? Did I miss sth in this game?
Maybe it's beacause you didn't go through all 96 exits. I'm not sure though because I dont even know what causes the star to appear in the first place, so this would just be a guess.
Alright, I've been playing this game a bit lately.
Right now I'm looking more at the low% and 100% rather than the any% run. I'm kinda thinking I may end up doing all three runs. This DVD recorder really makes it a lot easier to record long runs with relative ease. With VHS it was like I had only 2 tries at a game by which point I would have waster an entire tape doing a 100% run. With DVD, I have unlimited attempts
Anyway, I feel that low% is on its way. I need to practice... a lot.
On the other hand, I'd really like to do a 100% run of this game since it's one of my favorites, but I dislike the button layout. (which I've stated before in this or another thread.) But good luck with the practicing/running!
I'm currently working on my 11-exit run and I'm having a lot of trouble on DSH. Do the circle spinning ghosts start at a random position? It seems that the gap in that circular spline is in a different place during each run I do… I feel that I lose most of my time during that part of the run.
The gap is random. That ruins quite a few runs. The 2nd ghost circle never seems to be in the right place.
the only thing about doing a run is that, as of recent, the current SDA run is VERY improvable. I mean, probably by 10+ seconds or so. I know I saw a Japanese runner on nicovideo play through smw REALLY quick. I'm not sure what the exact time was.
If I remember right, I calculated that 10:43-10:44 would probably be a perfect run, the best anyone could manage maybe.
Nicovideo run was 10:53. Im not think you can drop time 10 seconds on console condition without new tricks used. Though im not sure about timerules in nicovideo. But as far as i can tell runner did nearly perfect run.
Do you are see new TAS run? IIRC there was some new tricks like Yoshis wings in yoshis island 3. Im not have any idea how impossible TAS tricks are.
The fastest run is 10:46. http://www.nicozon.net/watch/sm12993900 Not sure if they are using different timing however. Still, it is yet not perfect. But that's at least somewhere to aim at first.
The glitch with the Yoshi Wings in YI3 is not practical for console. It's very hard to do and will probably not even save a second if done perfectly on console. Would be easier to attempt the P-switch jump in the castle.
With all the tactics I know now, I have to wonder if there is some improvement on the console I can discover. DSH and the last level are definitely the levels with the most improvement available.
Shortly, I'm gonna make a new chart of fastest game times per level.
Alright, beating the world record for this game is going to be immensely difficult. That is, beating the run that Tompa posted 3 posts earlier.
10:45 was a time I calculated to pretty much be the best I would ever get for a speedrun. I think I could possibly tie the 10:46 time Tompa posted, but due to luck factors I feel like I might have to settle with something like 10:47-10:48 down the road. We'll see though. I have a few tricks up my sleeve as always So yeah, I'm going to try and beat the current run by 14 seconds. Wish me luck.
Now it's getting close to the point where I am able capable of beating the SDA run. My only issue really is still the last fight which I will be practicing for the next few weeks. I just need to get perfect at the last stage because a total of about 8 seconds can be gained throughout the level I think. There are still some other areas I've been trying to improve.
I have some interesting strategies that I've come up with, but in an actual run, it's hard to say what I'll actually be able to manage. There are also some more things I'd like to experiment after reviewing the TAS.
Strategy-wise: YI2 - perfect YI3 - testing (maybe I can be amazing) Castle #1 - testing DP1 - perfect DS1 - testing DSH - testing SW1 - perfect SW2 - perfect SW3 - interestingly, still testing this one. SW4 - perfect Bowser's Castle - testing
Alright so the end of this speedrun is ridiculous. Essentially, I have to fly up above bowser and make sure I hit both mecha koopas simultaneously and then go grab one of them in the air and stun him twice (while I'm still in the air). Watch the nicovideo run posted, it's pretty insane. I think it may be difficult, but really not all that impossible.
I swear I can beat that nicovideo run by 1 second if not more. My aim is going to be 10:45.
