Thanks, yes, but it's probably going to take a long time to get some of the hardest segments. But I will only post something that I think is good enough. Patience is needed in speedrunning and I'll have to be very patient. (Mostly thinking about Pinna Park and Pianta village, 2 very long segments). Anyway we'll see how it goes.

Good job so far. I like how you used the ground pound when picking up shines. For the second shine in Bianco Hills, I think it might be possible to jump off the water spider thing to the blue coin. He gives a huge boost.
Thanks, though I'm not sure what you're referring to about the water spider thing.  Undecided

It's going great, so far. I look forward to seeing it finished.

Even if the game is absolutely linear and you can't skip cutscenes or tutorials and it isn't nearly as exciting as any of it's prequels.
Hello, here I am again, delivering 2 new fresh segments!

Segment 3

Segment 4

Sorry if segment 3 has worse quality than the others, I forgot to record in SP.

I might redo segment 4 some other time.

Mr. Twishall
Hey dude. Great to see you're interested in this, just remember, 30-second mistakes in 39-minute segments are not allowed.

The reason I do all of Pinna Park and Pianta Village in one segment where I break up the other episodic areas into multiple segments has to do with the starting location in Delfino Plaza, the place where you begin when you turn on the game. The entrances to Pinna Park and Pianta Village are so far away from this spot that I deemed it too time-costly to run to their entrances more than once, whereas I split the other places up into multiple segments to optimize them more. The same holds true for Gelato Beach (the entrance being too far away), but you have to run out to the lighthouse area multiple times for other things, so I took advantage of this by splitting it up as well. I divide Bianco Hills episode-by-episode because it's faster to hit Save and Quit and run back to the entrance than it is to hit Continue, wait for the Plaza to reload, wait for Mario to celebrate, and then jump back in.

Pinna Park and Pianta Village could be split up if you wanted to optimize them more. One idea would be to deliver coconuts and then go to the Park, or deliver durians and go to the Village. That way you'd already be close to those areas while performing other necessary tasks, so you wouldn't lose much time getting to the level entrances. I have to run, I'll be back later to watch your segments and give you feedback. Let me know if you have any other questions. Good luck!
Yeah I figured it was because of the distance, but I like the idea of doing the durians blue coin and the coconuts blue coin, didn't think of that. I do think Pinna Park is the hardest area of the game, but anyway, I redid segment 3 and 4 and post them later today or tomorrow. Thanks for the help Thiradell.
My segment 4 redo

I didn't redo segment 3 because it's fine.
That one looks better, very nice.
Mr. Twishall
Segment 1: Good. You could save maybe three seconds with optimal timing against the piranha plants, but your Episode 1 is really smooth otherwise and personally, I'd be satisfied.
Segment 2: Great! Niiiiice work getting up the windmill, that's the fastest method I've seen and I've seen a few.
Segment 3: Really good! I made little touches to do things faster than Doodan, and you're doing the same with my stuff. Pretty sweet!
Segment 4: Somersault Dive from sixth to seventh Red Coin looked awesome. .34 faster than me, nice work.

Keep it up!

Thanks alot, yeah, episode 1 was not perfect, though, with 15 minutes cutscenes I thought it was good enough, I mean first segment took me 13 tries before this and around 57 minutes, episode 2 took me around 50 tries and 1 hour, so I did as much time for both segments even if I have more than the double of tries for ep. 2.
I saw the wall jump to the top of the windmill in Doodan's 100% SS vid and thought it was great.
Yeah I watch your run, try to learn it by heart, practice it, while I practice I test stuff to see if there isn't other tricks/ways to do what you do a bit faster.

Anyway I was wondering where to start timing the segments, is it right when you get control of Mario in the menu?

Thanks for the help!

Timing starts when you gain control of Mario in Delfino Plaza.
wow, never knew that, guess I'll have to redo it, thanks!

In case you didn't know, here's a faster way to get to the island with the poison river:

For justice.

Might be slower, but also might be a bit less tricky.
For justice.
Getting on top of Shine Tower with Yoshi: (and by consequence, Pianta Village and the Giant Shine Sprite so you can clean it)

I smell sequence breaks. =D

The first method looks faster to me. And less tricky, as well. It seems like you could clean the Giant Shine Sprite and take care of some Pianta Village Shines in the same segment without too much trouble. You aren't really going to need Yoshi up there because you don't need him to clean the giant Shine Sprite and you obviously can't take him to Pianta Village if there was any benefit to doing so.

Here's a very nice trick to skip some of the cutscenes in Pinna Park shine 1. It probably lets you skip other cutscenes too.

Thanks guys, however I paused this run and will start at around december. I'm just trying to enjoy my summer for now, neat trick/glitch though!  Grin

The TAS is done:

Also, a huge discovery has been made:

Is the TAS any% or 100%?

Also, that picture is awesome.

It's any%.

EDIT: I timed this TAS to be 1:27:29 (SDA time). It contains a large number of strategies that were previously unknown to us (at least to me), so anyone thinking of running this game definitely needs to watch it.

EDIT2: It's now on YouTube:

EDIT3: Here's a glitch that lets you enter the Pianta Village void without Yoshi:

TAS is a great watch, btw. I haven't even beat the game and I loved it. Some of the spinning and diving was excellent. Oh and all the playing. That was all excellent too.

I found a nice timesaver in Sirena Beach:

Ganondorf = Donkey Kong LOOK IT UP!!
I'll just leave this here Wink Anyone who runs this game SS should definitely use this route, it is pretty damn easy beyond that quick jump on the log and the fling to the shine.

EDIT: Also, I don't know whether this has been asked or not, but will using OoBs in this game warrant a different category? Because I know you can't get into Corona Mountain without 49 shine sprites (Nintendo SMART! DEY LEARN DERE LESSON!!!), so it would only be a matter of minutes faster than a non-OoB run. Thoughts anyone?
