Bump <_<

Finished that test run through with Corona Mountain...then on the last one the end of Noki Bay and the airstrip stuff.

Do endings count in run time? Specifically, if there's more stuff after the ending? Otherwise you have to get the Corona Mountain blue coins and then save and quit...by entering the mountain the flood recedes and you can go to the airstrip.

If the ending is in the middle of the run I guess it would count in the time...

I'm finding more glitches every day. The boat is terrible. You spray right at less than 90 degrees with the front of the boat and you move right. More than 90 and you move left. 90 makes the boat just spin around randomly. Ay least I think that's what it is...but it still seems to not be consistent. And there's a ton of coin maneuvering around at the end of Corona Mountain...

Also since the coin total in Delfino Plaza runs over when you get the red coin shine, get that shine and 100 coins but don't collect the shine. When you go back to Delfino Plaza, you'd expect the shine to appear because you have 100 coins (or more). But it doesn't x_x Nor does it itf you get just one more, or get 200 (doubtful but worth trying anyway).

Maybe, though, if you got 99 coins at the end of the red coin thing, you could simply grab the final coin in Delfino Plaza. Shine 96 Smiley Blue coins = 120.

Didn't try that, but it seems logical. And it's easy to be under or over 10 or so coins because of that long stretch at the end, if you're closer to 99, just grab the red coins and not the yellow ones, if you're further, grab as many as you need.
The Delfino 100 shine appear on top of the wooden platform out to sea (yoshi boats thingy), and you don't re-trigger the shine if you get 200 coins.
Speed Running Joy-bringer
I guess that makes sense. It might cause a glich in the game if it did, having the same sprite appear again... or something.

Yea I tested 200 coins, just for fun <_<

Still faster than going through the airstrip again, though.

hi
not much activity in this topic I see...<_<

Ok getting turbo during IP race is easy...you can just turbo up the hill lol <_<

I got 100 coins in gelato beach without smashing any melons, nor getting those weird coins way up high (i can't figure out how to spin mario on the rope anyway). I also didn't get the coins under the hut where you jump up from under it to get coins, so maybe there is even more room for skipping coins because those are quick. I did bring both melons over for 20 coins.

An intentional death is almost necessary in the sand bird course...the first blue coin is really easy to miss and it's low, the third one floats by right when the bird turns, the other two aren't a problem really. If you get the first blue coin it's almost impossible to get back on the bird.

Trying to organize this into segments now, my blue coin routes are still kinda meh though...(especially Noki Bay)

(1) counts shines, (BC 1) counts delfino plaza blue coins.

Corona Mountain again and the final battle (120)
Speed is the key.
Seems like you're doing good, keep it up!  Wink
Forward standard-by-ten .
I'd say odds are good you don't have to do the ending a second time.
hi
I figured that but I thought endings didn't usually count in the time of the run. If the ending is in the middle of the run, wouldn't it count?

Yes. Since it's, you know, not the end of the game if you have to do more stuff afterwards.
hi
Ok. going with other option then.

hi
edit: changed a lot in this post

Into the world of Noki Bay's incredibly strangely placed blue coins.

Aside from the 4 in the eel's lair, 2 shapes (triangles or circles i don't remember), 2 vases, 2 coins on the water, and one coin underwater, everything else is in a weird place. The 19 coins of hell

The first three are in cliffs on the other side of the level, making them easier to get in episode 1 rather than episode 2.

Two coins near the rocket nozzle should be gotten with it. The punch thing gets you back, then you get the hover nozzle. Those two coins way up high i'm getting by jumping to the bird cliff, spin jumping hover over to the 9 squares thing, getting those two coins. Then spin jumping into the first coin up high.
The second coin is a problem. A double jump at full height rocket nozzle cannot reach this coin. Sure you can wall kick and spin jump but its extremely difficult to do with the rocket nozzle. Plus, wall kicking puts you further away, and you can't get the coin.
Climbing up to the shell from episode 6 is a good, but slow solution. A spin hover just BARELY makes it. Damnit, who the hell put this coin here?

Although it just came to me, get it in episode 6 maybe? <_< Could be faster if getting back to the shell is possible.

From here, jump down to the platform below and triple jump or spin jump hover into the coin with darkness behind it. From here it's easy enough to reach the two coins, one where you spray the space above and one where you spray the space to the left. One more coin remains on this side, but it's difficult to reach from here. Trying to get it. The two on the front side of the cliff need a separate trip.

And there's more. There's one in the indent of the first wall thing, another in the indent of the second. And an M in between.

That underneath the waterfall coin is actually much easier to get in episode 6. The Turbo Nozzle is here which you need for the two circles. That underwater coin is also out of the way and you use nearly all your air to get there, if that damn fish grabs you you're dead. Episode 6 is good for it though.

Summary of order: 3 coins in ep 1, 2 w/rocket nozzle, switch to hover, 2 in 9 square, 2 up really high, six around bird cliff, 2 indents and M, blooper, two easy coins

I tried that same file today actually and I did not get the glitch with the coin. I dunno o_O
hi
Well, I have this coming week off school, so I may begin recording.

Some questions <_< both game and technical stuff

1) Ok, really, how DO you know the time of your run? This game doesn't have an in-game clock...is there an easy way to measure it? Sounds like a stupid question but I ask it honestly <_<
2) Back to game related. The super dive bomb as I call it. Dragorn uses it in his run...you jump up high somehow in place then dive. Is this just somersault + jump + dive or is there a different way it's been done?
3) Segments. Currently have 12, may go to 13. No really I had all of Pinna Park, everything with yoshi including the river, AND the durian delivery in one segment. Between durians, river, and those awful pirate ships...split this into 3...maybe 2. Also I had rocket nozzle turbo nozzle and pianta village all on one wonderful segment. Pianta Willage at the end too! i'm a chuckster and i will throw you off the stage and cause a death aka restart.
4) Blooper surfing. I know you can jump the side for 25 seconds but I come within some ridicuously small fraction of making it, even with the purple blooper, hitting the very tip of the top edge, and dying. Also the purple blooper turns worse than a truck trying to get out of our driveway...not pretty.
5) I have recently loved the water blast (where you jump and press R quickly but all the way down and shoot water everywhere). I didn't even know of its existence until I saw Dragorn's run <_< It cuts time on birds, spraying M's, spraying shapes, shadow mario (you can hit him from really far away) and just about anywhere you need to spray something. But it consumes water at an insane pace x_x. And I love to abuse it. But then I fill the tank often. Worth it, or not?

Yeah.
hi
bump...

Making progress but haven't started recording yet. Still want to know answers to above questions <_<
I thought it was just a surprise party!

Uh… use a stopwatch? Or if you’re asking when to start/stop timing, I believe it’s from when you first gain control of Mario (which, IIRC, would be on the airstrip) to when you last lose control (at the end of the final boss fight). At least, that’s how it would work for a SS run. I think segmented follows the same principles, but it’s a much bigger pain in the ass since you have to time each segment like that individually.

“Spin Flops.” Spin the control stick + A and B simultaneously. So very, very useful. Don’t give me too much credit though, I think I first learned of them from Alex Penev’s SMS website.

I don’t think I see a question here :). Use as many segements as you want; if should be fine as long as you don’t go completely overboard.

I think I had better luck with the green one.

Hmmm… suppose it really depends on the situation. You can probably get away with abusing it in areas/episodes where you don’t need much water for other tasks, though.

hi
stopwatch? ok...

On your run, did you count the cutscene with mario in court/jail? I think it counts because its after when you first gain control.

lol yeah I didn't really phrase 3 very well...I meant is this too many...but I'm at 14 now and I think that's what it will be. although more segments adds more traveling time.

about the bloopers, I was reading an old sda SMS thread and you said you needed to do that thing where you jump the other side and immediately turn around. I tried it like that and I got it...will practice

oh btw, these are the segments i'm using

1) Everything up to the beginning of Bianco Hills
2) Bianco Hills 1-7, opening RH/GB, crate bashing games
3) Durians, Pinna Park 1-5
4) Yoshi in Delfino Plaza (timing works out great, ending with river, I've gotten really good at it :))
5) Pinna Park 6-8 and some Delfino Plaza stuff
6) Gelato Beach 1-3, lots of Delifno Plaza stuff (nozzles especially)
7) Gelato Beach 4-8
8) Pianta Village
9) Sirena Beach, gold bird, pineapple lady
10) Pachinko, Bianco Hills finish up
11) Ricco Harbor
12) Noki Bay 1-6
13) Noki Bay 7, Corona Mountain blue coins, Airstrip
14) Corona Mountain final battle ending etc
Yoshi's eggs are at my mercy!

You answered your own question. Yes, you do.
hi
Starting recording tomorrow Smiley

Found a few other neat little tricks...in Pinna Park it's possible and faster to get 100 coins outside the park in episode 5 or later. Hat-stealing monsters + TONS of coins in sand = fast.

Yoshi's Fruit Adventure can be done a lot faster than what I originally had planned. I in the past had always sprayed it from below then gone to get rocket nozzle and rocketed up. But instead, a yoshi spin jump will barely make it to the tallest platform. However, jumping off of yoshi with X and diving if necessary gets you up there Smiley My 100 coin route is still really slow though...

hi
I think you'll have time to test...this is gonna take a while <_<

Finished segment 1 though...but that's 95% cutscenes :p

I was more thinking... details about what he did good/bad, etc. His time, maybe to compare with Dragorn's (as the first part doesn't change wether it's 100% or pure speed).
gl with this again Smiley
i never got the 120 ( just 117)
for sure its will a be good run

hi
It actually does change a little, but not more than a few seconds. I grab a blue coin early on in the jail. Not perfect, but a lot better than what I was doing. Perfect is spin jumping from the beach, hovering around and landing. I just fall right into the water intentionally and then jump up and get it. Camera is glitchy in there too. Everything else is either cutscene or easy Smiley

My time was 7:40-something. I have it written down though.

Only detail is that all games should make cutscenes skippable Angry All of them count to the time except the intro which is actually only a minute or so.

Attempting to record segment 2 later today...but I still need practice on it. The ledge below the ledge to the hillside cave has an invisible wall so you hover and stay in place, then fall off. Annoying.  Sometimes the 2nd Petey likes to be slow as well...five tornadoes in a row?

Although I did discover something cool...in the 1st petey, in the goop originally there, sometimes a small piranha is there. They give 3 coins. Now if you let Petey spit goop, there could possibly be more. 999 coins anyone? Not for this run, obviously <_<
hi
Segment 2 is....

not done yet <_<

Damnit. I had a perfect run going and then in the lake cave, where i've developed a route with no problems, Mario decides to slip off the side of the final blue platform = death. And i'm not allowing any deaths in this run <_< Or major falls from tall places.

Another I was getting red coins in hillside cave. There's one that I usually grab with a hover and quickly get on a platform. Instead, Mario decides to grab on to it. Fine...but then he randomly falls off. I hate these damn random glitches and sliding off shit by accident in this game.

Also on episode 2 if possible I'm trying to get on the blade that's there if you're quick enough. Getting the next one loses a lot of time.
