>I managed to pull that huge jump off, but it's still too bad because there's at least two minutes more of boat travel plus waiting for it.

It's just one boat and it does 180-turn. You could time the jump such that the boat has already done its turn (i.e. do something else before, like getting blue coins from birds).

>It's easily possible to get 100 coins without using the red coins...or at least the high up ones...

I don't think red (or blue) increase your total, only yellow.

>This really screws Noki Bay over, though x_x Red Coin fish area has about 80+ coins

There's 104 in the underwater town, but some of them will be annoying because they're part of the fish. Just grab some before diving in.

The goopy inferno trick is great. So simple, yet so effective. Fierce was planning a run before, but he's too addicted to Zelda. I think I raced a few episodes to make sure we were on the right track so I have some vids for that, but your routes will be different since you'll randomly throw blue coins in and go out of your way for them.

those strategies get more creative every time, that one's great

pachinko...is that the thing in the little tunnel with the hole in the ceiling? yes I hate that too x_x I was trying to abuse the back slide with the rocket nozzle but failed...spent 99% of the time trying to fight gravity. Also too bad the thing is closed off so you can' t rocket jump up from the starting platform right into it.

I don't think red (or blue) increase your total, only yellow.

They don't (reds, I knew about blues)? Damn it. Playing way too much Mario 64 <_<

but your routes will be different since you'll randomly throw blue coins in and go out of your way for them.

after you get fludd in pianta village ep 3 you have to go get a few blue coins hidden under the lava <_< at least it's easy to get back up...
I thought it was just a surprise party!
Goopy Inferno Trick = awesome

As far as the Pachinko Machine goes, that was one of the shines I fooled around with last time I was playing this game. If you spend some time learning techniques for collecting the different coins, it shouldn't be nearly as horrifying as you remember.
Forward standard-by-ten .
It just seemed to take such bizarre and arbitrary liberties with the physics.  I could never wrap my head around what control I had.
Hover makes pachinko easy. And you can control where you land (which of the pins) depending on what direction you hold when you jump, so with a bit of practice, you can get all coins quick-like. Make us proud!

About goopey inferno, isn't it faster to take the route dragorn takes in his run but then run over the small fence-like thing instead of hanging down the side of the level?
I hope you guys know what I mean, I can't explain it much better.

hi
Yea, you can't get much faster than that :p

So anyway, here's my idea for a route so far...

Beginning crap blah blah who cares
on the way to piranha under statue, get the blue coin in the jail on the corner area (BC 1)
all the other stuff into Bianco Hills
Bianco Hills episodes 1-7 and the red coins in the first cave area (avoiding second red coins because it's hard and it would be better at the beginning of a segment like the yoshi river thing)
After the second episode, go kill the piranha where Ricco Harbor is to get it out of the way...spray the X on the statue and get that coin on the way (BC 2)
What I found out kinda ruined my durian strategy of spreading it out to save time...if you get a shine, the fruit count in the basket resets. So you have to do them all at once. I chose not to right now...but I did go do the first crate breaking game.
After the seventh episode, go over to Gelato Beach and free that up. Now go do the other crate break.
Now the ship should be at Pinna Park.

First segment end.

Start with the durian crap first thing, it's damn annoying <_< At least you can kick two at once, and it's only 3...(BC 3)
Pinna Park time. It's best to just get all the shines at this point...will only be back to this area with the rocket nozzle and only for a minute. I hate the pirate ship coins. I just do. Especially since they randomly do a flip when you're trying to get up to the green walkways above.
After the fourth one I got Yoshi...I dunno if you need to rescue him in Delfino Plaza or just beat ep 4 to make him appear in Pinna Park, but I went with this anyway...on the way to freeing him I opened Sirena Beach (just ate the pineapple), and ate a nearby bird (BC 4). I also got the M under the box near the sewer that goes under the belltower (BC 5). After this, I sprayed the juice blocker high up for another coin (BC 6). The other bird is luckily right here (BC 7). I then went behind the police station tower for some more juice and a coin (BC 8). NOW to Pinna Park <_<
Back to Pinna Park...5-8. 100 coins with bullet bills Smiley
After Pinna Park, go out to the island and put the three coconuts in the basket (BC 9). Remember to talk to the pianta first...
Go down the sewer pipe here...to the right there's a blue coin (BC 10).
Right near here is the chuckster, so I got that shine then.

Probably a good ending point for segment two...

Segment 3 begins with the river of hell shine as I like to call it now. This is the final time you need Yoshi in Delfino Plaza.
Time to head into the sewer…going straight through to an area near under Corona Mountain is one, the other coin is on the other side… (BC 11 and BC 12)
After this, I make a huge leap out of the first manhole I come to (love those jumps) over to Gelato Beach
Spray the Pianta on fire for (BC 13)
It’s Gelato Beach time! Everything.
No the Quail is not riding the Q

I got Mario's head stuck in the wall ..lol

Boy. I never ended up finding every single Shine in this game. Most of them are Red Coins, but I'm not sure where some few are, even now. (I think I have about 109 Shines last I played)

Hey... kindof an odd question, but when you can, are you gonna dash around with the Turbo Nozzle when the situations calls for it? I know there wouldn't be TOO much use for it with all the jumping, but I think it could cut time a bit some places.

hi
It rarely saves time, considering using it is out of the way...

You don't need it in Bianco Hills, so it's not even worth getting...

Ricco Harbor I don't think it's worth it for the X.

Noki Bay AFAIK does need it for a blue coin, and of course delfino plaza's 2 shines (plus another that's easy to get with this) and blue coin

Also, when you have it, you can't hover OR rocket jump, which you need for many blue coins and shines.

the site where the #'s is from again...lol I figured out that "Vogel" means bird, blauer vogel...w00t I know some german now <_<

I also edited the general route and Bianco Hills a little (check previous posts, not reposting in a new post because it takes up alot of space)

Also, it just occured to me, but do you need to activate all the nozzles in all worlds available for 100?

edit: *disable smilies* damn that 8) thing
You want turbo for the Delfino Shines (breaking down the doors... you can get both with Yoshi Underground glitch, but it's much slower). Also, you want turbo for the Delfino 100 coins (go to airstrip, there's like 140 coins there, plus you need it to break down the tower door), and the 2 blue coins (one in plaza, one in airstrip)
You also want turbo in Gelato beach (get it while racing Piantissimo... you can still make it back to the flag before he gets there). Then you can use it for Episode 6 (red coins in corals).

Usually, if there's ground, you should slide on your belly. If there's water, you should constantly jump out and forward-dive.

>Nothing for the sub-40 seconds race…

25 with the shortcut, right?

>Small ledge with two yellow coins (jump with hover nozzle ->possible?) (15)

How are you getting to the girders? Ship's chimney?

>Episode 4

Was this the caged shine sprite? There a fancy shortcut which bypasses the rocket: http://paultanney.free.fr/alexpenev/misc/sms_ricco_cage_trick.avi. You still need the rocket for 21.

UNKOWN: X’s…what’s best?

You can get both with just wet-belly sliding. The X on the tower you can hit from up near the fountain, so you're pretty close to where it pops out. The X near the fountain, you can hit from near the fountain anddo a quick belly-slide towards the tower, dropping down below. It's not risky if you give it a few practice turns.

>Episode 6
>Underwater to the left of the swing island from a beach perspective (1)

Turbo underwater Smiley

sorry for the stupid question :/

anyways, while messing around in pianta village i found this glitch: after getting bounced of the stage, I hit the mushroom thingy on wich you jump in the yoshi secret shine. I bounced of it, fell trought the huge tree and after 30 seconds i hit a floor.. here's the result: http://s60.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2B8ZD225Y1JXP0W2QNF4W2QFIN

(sorry for the bad quality.. i recorded with a webcam because I have nothing else :/

Usually, if there's ground, you should slide on your belly. If there's water, you should constantly jump out and forward-dive.

Ground I do the slide and hop back up thing repeatedly, or sliding on water if theres a long stretch. For water I've always hovered in the water (faster than swimming).

Turboing underwater? WTF?

Unless of course you mean turboing in around in water, then just diving under to the coins. Faster than swimming/hovering/w/e out there I guess...

@ your cage shortcut: you don't need rocket nozzle for episode 3 really (the first coin is right next to where you spin jump to the cage, the second one is literally right above there), but imo it's faster because you can get dive down to get the underwater coin then rocket back up.

That second coin that I was questioning hovering to, its visible from the top of the chimney or w/e of the boat, I don't know if its reachable from here without the rocket nozzle. If it is, you don't need it until episode 4. But it also makes the coin above the girder above the chimney much easier to get. And it's more out of the way to get it in ep 4 for the 1st time <_<

ep 4 is ricco tower, it's possible to wall kick up but you need the rocket nozzle for the coin on top (as you pointed out).

@glitch: Yea this game is full of them <_< One time I was getting the fluff festival coin shine, I jumped to the cloud, I fell right THROUGH the cloud into death, but the game came back up in the chuckster cave place. Wouldn't save any time if it was possible to figure out how to do it again, since you have to do that shine before the fluff one anyway...
>Ground I do the slide and hop back up thing repeatedly, or sliding on water if theres a long stretch. For water I've always hovered in the water (faster than swimming).

Hover-swimming is still slower than jumping out and diving, but fortunately there's not too many places where you have to stay on the surface of the water for long. Otherwise you'd have to start practicing it Smiley

>Turboing underwater? WTF?

Dive down a bit and let it rip? You'll slowly ascend to the surface, but you might be lucky enough to run into blue coins without slowing down.
hi
Turboing underwater = awesome Smiley

Nintendo really left the most time consuming shines to those optional ones didn't they...

Getting turbo during IP race? Possible...but hard <_<

Watermelon...if only you could jump at it without the thing breaking to get it out of that halfway up level without danger. This thing is also glitched as hell. When trying to push it off the ampitheater, sometimes it will randomly warp a few feet away as if "resetting". Also it will randomly fall through the ground and then end up near the other one, also right by a red duck...

100 coins is where I end my ranting. This stage has what, like, 110 coins? 50 of those come from watermelons, 30 of those come from smashing them repeatedly and waiting for them to grow back whic hIS time consuming...

There's like 8 coins by the palm trees and another 5 on the slide, that's the highest concentration of coins anywhere :/ I was desperate enough to start spraying birds...and there's only 3 and I had 96 coins...

Watermelons = 50 (and these aren't quick either)
Ducks = about 25
The rest = everywhere

Fortunately, this brings up good news for blue coins. In particular, the one on the slide, the one above the hut, the really high up one, the one on the ceiling of the fruit hut, and the one in the little gap in the big hill on the far end.

This takes twice as long as all the other shines combined! Is there a better episode than 8? There can't be THAT many bees for Yoshi to eat, can there?

Although my player's guide pointed out a line of coins up in the sky. From the highest platform, they're the same height up as a rocket jump, but a lot further out. How are they even reachable? Where's that damn wing cap when you need it <_<

So yeah.

APPROX COIN AMOUNT - 110+

x_x the only coins I didn't know about on there were the ones under the watermelon hut.

oh yea, I forgot Pianta Village is short too...this is no Big Boo's Haunt...

Also for that link you have to copy it to the address bar and remove a space because gamefaqs is like that.

edit: Pianta Village may be short on coins, but they're much easier and faster to collect than Gelato Beach's.

I hate Village Underside Angry
Sorry about the link, didn't know about that :-[

Good luck with this run and i'll try to chip in when i can.
Forward standard-by-ten .
To get to those coins you need to climb the elastic wires.  It's really time consuming to get up there and really hard to nail the coins.  I don't remember what I did, but I'm sure there's a better way than stomping watermelons.  Ugh.

There's 155. That guide is a bit... not that hardcore Smiley The money register under the cabana is 8 IIRC, and it's well hidden. There's some near the big tree swing island, so don't forget that. There's 2 lines of 5 each way up near the end of the level on the tightropes. There's a blue coin there, so you'll have to visit anyway (rocket?). You need to press B on the rope to grab on with your hands, and spin around with the normal nozzle, and let go to fly off. If you hold forward on the stick, you'll collect all 10 and fall down near the coral reef (then double back towards the kiosk and get stuff there... there's some coins underneath it).

> Getting turbo during IP race? Possible...but hard <_<

I have it on video I think... http://paultanney.free.fr/alexpenev/misc/sms_gelato_routes.avi. There's plenty of time, all you need is two wall kick jumps.

> Watermelon...

What about starting a segment with this shine, if it annoys you so much? You can tag it on to the next world. With the right push and spray, the big watermelon can go almost all the way to the kiosk!

Stefan Mahlra had a good site about coin totals. He has some vids for getting certain coins to max out some levels (http://www.superplayers.de/stefanmahrla/SMS/), which maybe will help you. I'm pretty sure Watermelon is not the only episode you can get 100 in, but it's the episode with the highest total (so it's the only one I've played for coins).

oh ok, yea i've always gone up with the rocket nozzle, although i'm sure you can get the blue coin simply by bouncing on the rope.

I can't get your video to work...it says it couldn't locate the specific clip after it downloads.

Watermelon shine doesn't really bother me, and if I did that for a bunch, i'd probably have about 50 segments <_< The only one i'm considering besides the river mabe is the Pianta Village village underside one...but it's still not that hard...

Episode 6 might be possible for coins, too...with bees.

hi
Big post :O

In Ricco Harbor, it is possible to spin jump and hover to that blue coin in episode 3...then to the one on the crane, then to the cage, taking the rocket nozzle in episode 4.

On a side note, the arrow points right in episode 3. Does the "official" game way really expect you to take that really long way over cranes and hooks etc? I've never gone that way and I just noticed that o_O

This game has so many glitches it's not funny...I got the 100th coin in Serena Beach in the attic and the shine just kinda falls through the ground and into darkness.

And I went for the 100 coins during the shadow mario episode...I never went within distance of him to make him move yet he was running around the whole time o_O. Walking on the space that's above him seemed to trigger him for some reason.

Also randomly the music for a shine's appearance is different.

Ok I was positive there was a shortcut to cut Yoshi out of ep 8 in Ricco Harbor. The best I can find is spraying the orange stuff from a distance and rocket jumping up...but that takes time because when you get Yoshi your nozzle goes back to hover for some reason.

I don't know what I was thinking of o_O

Sirena Beach and Ricco Harbor are both fairly low on coins, like most levels, but not that difficult. Casino is time-consuming when the slot and puzzle decides to be annoying. Plus you have to do it twice >:)

So anyway, Gelato Beach is a new segment with the other stuff I posted. REALLY considering Yoshi river on its own. Anyway, during that the Turbo Nozzle appears. I got the shine in the pipe after Gelato Beach because that platform is difficult to reach with the Turbo Nozzle.

Next is Turbo Nozzle stuff (for some reason the golden bird isn't here yet, so I hold off on that for now), meaning three shines (I get the one on the beach because the shine appears on a platform easily reached by the turbo nozzle). By now the Rocket Nozzle has appeared, so I get that. Lots to do. Both bells, on top of the shine gate, lighthouse, and that other pipe near Pinna Park. Or maybe get the Rocket Nozzle and go right up into Pianta Village and do this later?

Yea, Pianta Village now. Doing everything out of order <_<

The bird is here after that (what does it take, 50 shines maybe?) so I took the turbo nozzle to get it, but the Turbo Nozzle can't easily reach the platform. So I went back to the Hover nozzle. Pineapples are here. There's two more blue coins with the nearby M in box. Now Serena Beach...

And then Bianco Hills finished up and Ricco Harbor. On Bianco Hills, for the red coins it's not even worth it to get the rocket nozzle, it just makes it harder IMO. Rocket nozzle only for high blue coins near village in 100 coin shine. X on the way back.

That leaves only the banana lady...who is right near Noki Bay...that's gonna be one hell of a blue coin route.

So that's what I have so far. Phew x_x
