I think you'd want to use the underwater-Yoshi glitch for that.
Speed is the key.
You have a lot of planning on your hands here, man...  Shocked

I wish you good luck, though.  Wink
hi
I don't know of that glitch <_<
Speed is the key.
From the Gamefaqs glitch FAQ for SMS:

D- Yoshi/Mario Underwater/Delphino Plaza

Glitch- Yoshi/Mario Underwater/Delphino Plaza
Difficulty-Easy/Medium
Discovered by-??? From System Crash
Description-Lets you take Yoshi and/or Mario under water in Delphino
Plaza

How to Perform-
This is a fairly major glitch and also very fun and useful, God knows
how anyone ever came up with it. Anyway, to do this grab Yoshi in Isle
Delphino. Take him to the building to the left of the statue and take
him under the furthest left window. Now perform a spin jump, hold A and
push inwards towards the building. When Yoshi reaches the seam between
the wall and the roof he should float through. Now let go of A and
you'll drop underground into a dark blue area. Now start jumping
because if you stand still for more than a few seconds you die. Make
your way out under the sea, (sometimes you'll end up in the underground
pipes and have to start again) once here jump up and you should come up
through the ground and land on the ground under water. Now you can run
around under water to your heart's content. Once you come out of the
water you can't go back.
(NOTE: This can also be done with Mario alone.)

hi
ok that will certainly be helpful (if it's allowed) Smiley

Well, you're not going out of level bounds, since water is accessable, just entering unintended area within bounds. I'm not sure about that one, it's [Super Mario Sunshine expert/Radix's] call.
dinosaur from the past
Picture or vid would help, although I know it's not easy to get for many. It sounds like it may be underneath the buildings where you're never supposed to go or something, which could be a problem.
No the Quail is not riding the Q
Well if you want to do this run you have my support.
Really this will all be about getting a perfect strategy..which is something I obviously enjoy doing.
So where to begin.. Tongue
I think using this glitch it would be like a seperate category thing..but I wouldn't worry about that since no one in there right mind would make a second 100% without the trick Tongue
Let me get a screenshot of what I think you are talking about..
Edit:
hi
I was playing earlier and trying to get it to work and I couldn't...i'll try it again later.
Sleeping Terror
If going off the side of the building in Perfect Dark is out of bounds, using a clipping glitch to go below the level would definitely be out of bounds.

But that shine wasn't that hard... seriously. It only took me one or two tries to get there, and a few tries in the course itself. Remember, if you miss a red coin, you can walk back along the sides of the course.

I'd like to see a single-segment of this, if anyone dares try. Even with a few deaths, it'd be more impressive than a segmented run.
I imagine it would only have value insofar as it saves time on that long section with Yoshi. Also, the shine out there is hard not only because it is actually hard(IMO hardest shine in the game by a fair margin), but because in a speed run going back across that narrow ledge won't be time conducive.

hi
Is it the building with the shine sprite in it, or is it the one with the pianta staring at the wanted poster?

I tried both and neither worked Sad

edit: updated, put 100 coin stuff separate

Bianco Hills Blue Coins

Spin the windmill nearest beginning of level (11)

Episode 2

Also if you're wondering what the numbers mean, it's just the order they have on this site in case you have no idea what i'm talking about <_<:

http://homepages.compuserve.de/Kioliver2/sms_loesung/hill/blue.htm

it's german but the pictures are what's key
Yoshi underground won't be useful, since it's kind of slow to perform:

There's a small shortcut for the boats:

hi
I edited my blue coin route around a little...the first route was based entirely on just looking at the player's guide, this one I actually went through the level to find the exact placements of the coins....

Once you beat Shadow Mario, there's a few seconds before you can grab the shine, so might as well do something. Plus those O's aren't there in episode 4 <_<

Episode 8...man...that's 8 red coins, more than half the blue coins, a jump that's hard to pull off and results in death if missed (petey piranha coin), AND this is the best one to get 100 coins on. I forgot if the 100 coins in this game takes you out of the level or not (it doesn't in SM64)...I hope not.

Also, episode 8 needs Yoshi, so you can't do this level all at once. Ricco Harbor episode 8 doesn't NEED Yoshi, but there's a butterfly that needs Yoshi to eat it for a blue coin. Gelato Beach also needs Yoshi for a blue coin.

Trying to avoid revisits if possible (this level is obviously easy enough to revisit), I'm thinking do the first 9 here (all but episode 8 and the 100 coins), then get some Delfino Plaza shine (first bell tower maybe) for 10, then to Pinna Park. Although I dunno if the boat appears if you haven't opened Ricco Harbor and Gelato Beach. Another thing to check out <_<

Nice Yoshi jump btw.

I believe that it is necessary to access Ricco Harbour and Gelato Beach (in that order?) before the sea-going contraption appears at the outer canal docks.
hi
Ok. And I just realized you only need the 9 from Bianco Hills along with the original airstrip shine <_<
The only question is; would that be quicker than just going for all seven Stages, then going for the sub-stages in Delfino Plaza, then going through Corona Mountain?
hi
Maybe. But for example, you should clean the big shine sprite on the tower before you go to Pianta Village...and do the river thing with Yoshi before Sirena Beach.
Forward standard-by-ten .
100 coin shines DO exit the level, sadly.  Still, I guess this adds time while making your life easier.

For the record, I'd love to see the glitch used, but it very clearly creeps into secret world territory.  As for segmented vs. SS, I understand that most people here always love seeing SS, but honestly... this is a ridiculous undertaking already.  I'd always rather see a polished segmented run than a SS with tons of backtracking and retries.
Forward standard-by-ten .
That boat shortcut is even sexier than the underwater Yoshi glitch.

hi
I managed to pull that huge jump off, but it's still too bad because there's at least two minutes more of boat travel plus waiting for it

iirc there is an underground pipe that goes into the ocean, if that's close enough...but I think it was on the other side...too bad.

100 coins exits? Crap <_< Although it does split that large amount of collectables on episode 8 in half...village stuff with 100 coins, red coins and higher blue coins with episode 8.

It's easily possible to get 100 coins without using the red coins...or at least the high up ones...

This really screws Noki Bay over, though x_x Red Coin fish area has about 80+ coins

edit: oh and if you die on the river thing, at least you start only at the beginning of that again, not from delfino plaza...

although i'd definitely put that at the beginning of any segment.
Forward standard-by-ten .
Hell, I'd make that and the pachinko (worst shine in the game for me) their own segments.
Yea that pachinko shine was a nightmare, I found the river shine a breeze in comparison.

Can you make one of those for all the levels? When I get the time I'll be testing all of them.
