Yeah, I said it.
Here's a combat tip for "When It Rains, It Pours," in the Gold Leaf Galaxy.

You don't have to hit the switch and raise platforms to get on top of that cannon and hit the mole. Just backflip + spin directly on top of it. Damage boosting from the nearby spikes might be another alternative.
It's-a me, Stalin!
I think the spring mario could be skipped for the first star in the toy galaxy.
I think I found the fastest route for the Silver Star Collection part at the end of the first Star of the Star Dust Galaxy:

Start by doing a longjump NW from the corner of the platform and spin to land on a green square just to the right of the first silver star. Pick it up then go back to the green Square and do a Longjump NNE from the right half of the square at the top and spin to land on a blue block. Longjump NW to get the second silver star bit. Longjump NE from the brown platform and spin to grab the ledge (might be possible to land straight on the block), then pull yourself up for the third silver star. Drop back down and do a Longjump Eastwars from the top right blue square, spin at the end and walljump spin up on the brown platform you will end up just barely reaching. Longjump NE for the 4th Star, then longjump back to the brown platform. Run southwards, the path will run diagonally southwest in blue squares, long jump southwards from the bottom square of the second column from the right and spin at the end to land on a blue platform. Go east for the final Silver star, then do two longjumps SW to bump straight into the well deserved Powerstar.

Might make a video if nobody else does but I don't exactly have my capturing equipment set up right now.

I'm having youtube issues.  I found a speed trick in Gusty Garden galaxy yesterday.  I'll try re-uploading the vid for a 3rd time.

EDIT: Let's see if this works.  The other 2 times I tried this, the link worked for a couple of minutes then it said "this video is unavailable".  I just love youtube glitches...

"Gusty Garden's Gravity Scramble" speed trick.

this one might become hand in a 120 star run..i don't think we are going to collect this star in a 61-star run but nevertheless:

Melty Molten 1st Star - As soon as you start you are able to get to the top of the volcano by using spins to climb up. By doing this you skip the whole way to the warp star at the top of the volcano.

I just saw by reading through these few pages that logitech just used the same trick in honehive galaxy, don't think I wouldn't give any credit^^ (besides from that I found it on my own)

and I just found a timesaver in Buoy Base (Kitchen) for the regular yellow star:
If you raise up the platforms and the middle tower etc. stand on on of the yellow platforms which are floating on the water, right below the wall twomp (?) which comes out of the wall and blocks a walljump path if he is out.

use a backflip + spin + walljump + spin to get up there, make sure that the twomp is inside the wall if you land otherwise you'll just fall down..geh :>
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Hey new here.

Has anyone tried hitting MEGALEG by jumping on the fence while a bullet bill chases you, then jumping down to get him hit instead of breaking the fence?

Sorry if old.

I just learned that MASTERLINKX found the Gusty Garden Gravity Scramble speed trick about the same time I did.  I gave him cred in my youtube info.   I actually found this yesterday, but the vid wouldn't process until a couple of hours ago.

I wonder if it's faster to gather up 60 stars before unlocking the engine room rather than going through the latter galaxies. The issue is is feeding the Luma for the extra galaxies and Prankster Comets, so you'd need a lot of star bits.
Now a hit show on the CW
I made a couple Gold Leaf Galaxy videos... apologies for the poor quality:

Cataquack to the Skies
This one shows off three speed tricks. The first one is an alternate method for scaling the ledge that might be faster than the one Paraxade posted (provided you don't screw it up like I did). Second and third one are triple jump spins to get to the next planets. That last one is extremely difficult to hit, but will potentially save a lot of time as long as it doesn't take more than a couple tries.

When it Rains, it Pours
Did the whole level using what I believe to be the fastest route. Made a couple mistakes, namely missing the spring and being late on the boss's final hit. It might be faster to just lose the Bee suit and fight him with backflips or spike boosts.
After playing the PAL version (are there any known differences?) pretty much non-stop since its release, I've finally gotten everything. Awesome game. Onto the point of this post, there are actually 242 stars, since the Grand Finale Galaxy is unlocked for both Mario and Luigi, just in case you didn't know yet.
here's a couple interesting (but afaik useless) glitches in Dusty Dune Galaxy:

I've been working on the route.

First thirteen stars:
1. Gateway Galaxy - Grand Star Rescue
2. Good Egg Galaxy - Dino Piranha
3. Good Egg Galaxy - A Snack of Cosmic Proportions
4. Honeyhive Galaxy - Bee Mario Takes Flight
5. Honeyhive Galaxy - Trouble on the Tower
6. Honeyhive Galaxy - Big Bad Bugaboom
7. Loopdeeloop Galaxy - Surfing 101
8. Flipswitch Galaxy - Painting the Planet Yellow
9. Bowser Jr.'s Robot Reactor - Megaleg's Moon
10. Space Junk Galaxy - Pull Star Path
11. Space Junk Galaxy - Kamella's Airship Attack
12. Rolling Green Galaxy - Rolling in the Clouds
13. Battlerock Galaxy - Battlerock Barrage

Barring major sequence breaks, I don't think these will change. The only real decision I had to make was King Kaliente's Battle Fleet vs. Big Bad Bugaboom, and the latter is undoubtedly faster. I doubt we could collect 400 star bits for Sweet Sweet Galaxy this early in the run without taking major detours.

Prankster Comets begin appearing after the 13th star. This is where things get complicated:

For segmented:
14. Honeyhive Galaxy - Honeyhive Cosmic Mario Race
15. Battlerock Galaxy - Topmaniac and the Topman Tribe (Daredevil version if it can appear before this)

For single-segment:
14. Space Junk Galaxy - Tarantox's Tangled Web
15. Battlerock Galaxy - Topmaniac and the Topman Tribe

Both categories:
16. Bowser's Star Reactor - The Fiery Stronghold
17. Beach Bowl Galaxy - Sunken Treasure
18. Beach Bowl Galaxy - Passing the Swim Test
19. Beach Bowl Galaxy - The Secret Undersea Cavern

For segmented:
20. Beach Bowl Galaxy - Fast Foes on the Cyclone Slate

For single-segment:
20. Beach Bowl Galaxy - Wall Jumping Up Waterfalls (?)

Both categories:
21. Ghostly Galaxy - Luigi in the Haunted Mansion
22. Ghostly Galaxy - A Very Spooky Sprint

(Later) Good Egg Galaxy - Luigi on the Roof (upon return visit to the Terrace)
(Later) Hurry-Scurry Galaxy - Shrinking Satellite (upon return visit to the Fountain)
(Later) Sweet Sweet Galaxy - Rocky Road (after collecting 400 star bits without detours)
(Later) Sling Pod Galaxy - A Very Sticky Situation (after collecting 400 more star bits without detours)

I thought the comets don't show up when you haven't already completed the star they take place on? (aka Topmaniac's Daredevil Run not triggering if you haven't completed Topmaniac and the Topman Tribe)
That's what I was wondering about, too.

I got "Frosty Cosmic Mario Race" in Freezeflame Galaxy before having done "Hot and Cold Collide," which takes you through the section where the race is held.

Same idea for "Underwater Cosmic Mario Race" in Sea Slide.

I wouldn't be surprised if Daredevil Comets require that you have completed the main boss mission first, though.
I want off the ride....

I got the same thing for that comet mwl; but Every other showed up distinctly after it was completed. But the wierd thing was, the "special" comet only showed up cause i detoured for the secret star. Thus I think you have to had been IN that star path before. I dont think you need have completed it....

Why wouldn't you have 400 lumas by star 13? considering you pick up liek 30-40 (cause i mean its not that hard to way a wii mote around) per star. Your still not too far off. More likely than not, its the subsequent ones that will be the pains for lumas.
Maybe the comet shows up once you've collected a certain number of stars from a galaxy?
You mean after the comets appeared for the first time?

I think there are two ...well three things which are needed to make a random comet appear:

1st you have to "unlock" the comets, should be know, eh? :>

2nd you have to finish the "comets base mission", for example you have to finish the mole-boss mission before the risk-comet may appear

and 3rd (probably) you need a certain number of stars, because otherwise the comets would appear if you do the same mission some times, wouldn't they? e.g. you do the first three "base stars" of a galaxy and  start over one of the missions to make the comet appear...but it won't.

I don't see any other way how we could manipulate this on a certain way instead of "luck manipulation" in segmented runs

Nope. Several times I have received comets that have given me special versions of missions I haven't completed yet.

Which is why I always hope I get a comet for something I've already done, because those are easier.
humm I played 1 time 241 and anothertime 120 stars..i always got the comet after I completed the regular mission..anyway had to be some kind of luck then..

is there something else different with luigi than speed/height, sliding and some lvl difficulties?

Yeah, he's a different color. I'm just kidding.

As far as the commets go, I think they just affect the first level of the stage. At least that's how its been for the comet levels I've done so far.

Nope. Runs should naturally be faster with Luigi however, due to said speed and jump increases.
I'm not really a speed runner, I'm really just fascinated with them, but is it possible to make the run faster using a partner to press A at the same time to make you jump higher? I know it's part of the game, but couldn't the higher jump be abused to do more sequence breaks?
The higher jump isn't anything you can't do without a second person.
