EDIT - This was already done my MLX, which I didn't know at the time... I found out the huge shortcut by myself
Why do I keep finding so many 15-20 second time savers? At Flip-Flopping in Flipsville, you can skip the whole world with the chainchomps, (which MLX already found out before me) and I found an easier way to get to the top of the tower on the first planet.
To skip the chain chomp planet, all you have to do is get to the top of the tower, go on the right edge of the top of the tower and long jump off of the edge. It is a bit hard to explain in person, so here is a video showing you both of the short cuts
I just finished the game 100% so I'm going to start running some stars now.
I just did a unrecorded Melty Monster - The Magnificent Magma Sea 1:52.36. It was pretty bad so I'm sure sub 1:50 is possible. I'll record future runs but the computer I'm currently on is so damn old it won't read my DVDs (and I can barely watch videos) and I probably won't be able to use a decent computer for a few weeks but I'll get around to uploading them eventually (assuming they're not beaten yet).
I didn't do an exhaustive search for videos to add to the star times page, but I think I got everything that was posted here. From now on, please edit the star times page when you post a run. Hopefully, this will help keep people on track for a (very) eventual submission to SDA.
Lord_VG, can you add this information to the first post? Thanks.
Should cover the majority of the known tricks, and contains quite a few new ones as well.
Contents: (major tricks in underline)
0:00 - Sky Station Galaxy - Route for the second planet. 0:23 - Spin-Dig Galaxy - Skip drilling. 0:29 - Spin-Dig Galaxy - Skip drilling in a different spot. 0:35 - Fluffy Bluff Galaxy - Major shortcut that skips half the level. 1:04 - Rightside Up Galaxy - Skip a gravity switch. 1:14 - Rightside Up Galaxy - Skip the ending 2D section. 1:36 - Bowser Jr.'s Fiery Flotilla - Skip almost everything up until the boss. 1:55 - Puzzle Plank Galaxy - Skip ground pounding a few pegs, then skip wall jumping up a wall. 2:14 - Hightail Falls Galaxy - Useless but sorta cool trick that skips a wallrun. 2:23 - Hightail Falls Galaxy - Jump from the third-to-last wallrun to right before the last one, then jump straight to the star. 2:44 - Cosmic Cove Galaxy - Skip a key. 2:58 - Bowser's Lava Lair - Skip the Magikoopa at the beginning. 3:03 - Bowser's Lava Lair - Skip the Hammer Bro. 3:10 - Haunty Halls Galaxy - Route for the Bulb Berry section, including a key skip. 3:34 - Supermassive Galaxy - Small timesavers near the beginning. 3:55 - Supermassive Galaxy - Planet hop from a Thwomp to the planet with the giant Koopas. Don't think this saves time. 4:07 - Supermassive Galaxy - Skip the last two Launch Stars. Only works for Luigi. 4:14 - Flipville Galaxy - Jump straight from the beginning to the first Launch Star. 4:21 - Flipville Galaxy - Small shortcut over the house on the second planet. Both this and the next trick are obsoleted. 4:27 - Flipville Galaxy - Alternate shortcut. 4:42 - Flipville Galaxy - Skip drilling. 4:50 - Starshine Beach Galaxy - Skip Cloud Mario. 4:57 - Chompworks Galaxy - Skip Spring Mario on the first planet. 5:06 - Bowser's Gravity Gauntlet - Major shortcut that skips half the level. 5:37 - Space Storm Galaxy - Tricks to climb the tower very quickly and skip the fight at the end. 6:11 - Slipsand Galaxy - Skip most of the 2D section. 6:27 - Shiverburn Galaxy - Skip the U-bend at the beginning. 6:44 - Shiverburn Galaxy - Skip the five enemies on the third planet. 6:54 - Upside Dizzy Galaxy - Skip a gravity button. 7:02 - Bowser Jr.'s Boom Bunker - Skip a small platforming part. 7:21 - Clockwork Ruins Galaxy - Shortcuts in the section with the caged Luma on the second planet. 7:55 - Clockwork Ruins Galaxy - Small, obvious tricks on the third planet. 8:09 - Clockwork Ruins Galaxy - Skip most of the planet with the secret star. 8:23 - Throwback Galaxy - Another obvious trick to jump to the top. 8:28 - Battle Belt Galaxy - Skip killing all the enemies on one of the planets. 8:38 - Stone Cyclone Galaxy - Skip a fairly large portion of the path. This is significantly harder to pull off in SMG2 than it is in SMG1, and I've only been able to do it with Luigi. 8:46 - Bowser's Galaxy Generator - Skip the Hammer Bros near the beginning. 9:03 - Bowser's Galaxy Generator - Fastest way to handle the part with the Bullet Bills as far as I can tell.
And the big finale:
9:17 - Bowser's Galaxy Generator - Use Infinite Flutter to skip over the majority of the second half of the level.
Bowser's Big Lava Power Party tricks. The last one might be new.
The last trick in this video was very awesome. I need to update my speed run of this level in the next 48 hours.
00:17.06 - The Secret Wall Jump (Honeybloom Galaxy)
(From the YouTube description)
A faster method for the beginning would be to long jump into the wall, spin, wall jump then spin into the Goomba for momentum to use on the vine swing.

Woah, this has only been out a week and it's already epic. I haven't even gotten through world 6 yet, but when I reach 242 I may help look for tricks and sequence breaks (which I have no idea how to begin doing but there's a first time for everything.)
Big trick for yoshi stat galaxy star 2. Once you get yoshi, jump onto the rock right next to the egg, look at the boss planet in the distance, turn sideways and sideways infinite flutter over to the boss. Its a bit difficult because the camera is awful from the starting position but it should save more than a minute.
Edit: 1:34.88 with a below average boss fight (sub 1:30 definitely possible) with this strat. And with just a few minutes of practicing I can do it perfectly every time.

Sheesh, every time I find something good, someone else finds it about an hour before me XD I knew this was possible, but do to my lack of poor infinite flutter timing and awful camera angel, that trick is really hard to pull off. A bit easier route (maybe used in single segments) is to infinite flutter to the planet before the boss. It is a shorter distance and better camera angle. I have personally done this and I'm bad at infinite fluttering =P
These can only be performed with Luigi. The second trick doesn't save much time, if any, but the first one saves at least 15 seconds. Sorry for the crappy video quality.
The Floatacious Blimp Fruit Speedrun - 1:49.38 - Super Mario Galaxy 2
I personally love this run so much. It didn't take me too too long and found new tricks after every few attempts. As a result, I got this beautiful run which I don't see being improved for a while (unless some other major trick is found xP)
Skateman222 and I Decided to do some route planning of a 70(1) Star Single Segment Speed run.
It turned out to be really good! We practiced individual levels, and after getting used to them we decided to go for it.
I got 4:51:57 and Skateman got 4:40:21. He had a bit better planning then me, so he cut my time by 11 minutes.
Both of our goals were to get under 5 hours, so we were both happy with our times. They can definitely improve though, considering we died 10+ times. Route planning for comets is a lot harder than it sounds.
I will make some more individual level runs, and try for a sub 4.5 hours once we get better at the levels we are not good at/lose lives at. Wish us luck!
