I think you should still get the required coin amount for hungry lumas if you do it already paid for.
I was thinking about that, but I don't think would look very good. Maybe if I was planning it as if I would do it in a real run, but with IL table intentions I'm going to forgo the coins.

Too bad I can't see any of these new videos, I am on vacation and my relatives internet fails so hard T_T
But anyways, LDA, the 57 is probably awesome. Can't wait to look at the "Button Booster"

On the topic of the coin Luma stars, I agree on collecting the amount of coins originally needed, because that will give us an idea on how fast we can do those stars in a real run of the game.
Well being that I don't plan on doing a full game run, I'll stick to not picking them up. Besides, in the particular one I did the only difference would be getting the 60ish coins in the pipe and then the 40 on the cloud, they are very concentrated.
2 small Cosmic Cove tricks (might only work with Luigi)

Second is probably useless but could be pretty fancy if pulled off right, just watch the video below to see my idea.

you're right this isn't useful in a speed run - as soon as you become cloud mario, just jump onto a nearby lilypad and ride over to the floating sphere below the star, then cloud jump to the star. it's a neat idea though.
As long as we're running ILs I agree with not picking up the coins. Not like anyone who actually is doing a full game run couldn't do a quick run to find out how long picking up the coins takes.

Here's a video of it done in 55.25:

Packattack told me he uploaded a better one before me shortly after I uploaded mine. =p I would still share it even if I knew about his beforehand because both videos contain very different methods. His time was saved at the stone slab at the "fountain", but lost scaling the area outside the tree. If in a week nobody merges the potential of both videos, I'll probably take care of it.

More stuff. ^_^ I have one more video, but it's already been beaten, and there's nothing different between the strategies, so I won't bother sharing it.

Sorry for not uploading my other video yesterday like I said, but here's another trick I found:

Not sure if it's been discovered already, but it allows you to break open yoshi's egg slightly faster than usual. It's merely jump timing and positioning, not too hard to do.
I've started speedrunning individual stars on this game.  I'll continue to upload them to this playlist on my youtube account.:

Here are some of the videos inside the playlist:

Hot-Stepping Dash Pepper 1'10"83

Fluffy Bluff Galaxy - Search for the Toad Brigade Captain 55"25

Flipsville Galaxy Green Star 3 36"53 (w/shortcuts)

Honeybloom Galaxy - 'The Secret Wall Jump' 16"00

Bowser's Lava Lair Green Star 1 44.00 (w/shortcuts)

Bowser's Galaxy Generator Green Star 1 23"33 (w/shortcut)

I have other videos in there but a lot of them are green star runs.  I'll continue to upload them so if anyone is interested just keep an eye on the playlist.

Climbing the Cloudy Tower - 0:33.88
Got these over the past couple days:

Super Mario Galaxy 2 - Shiverburn Galaxy new shortcut/strategy

Super Mario Galaxy 2 - Bowser's Lava Lair - Green Star 1 - 44.00 (shortcuts)

Super Mario Galaxy 2 - Bowser Jr.'s Fiery Flotilla - Green Star 1 - 18.61

Hey guys, I think this is the best way to get star bits in this game. Not sure if there will be any instances where people will need to blatantly collect star bits, but as far as I'm aware, this is the quickest way to do so.

I think runs will use the bank for all necesary star bits...nobody wants to see them grinded.

Also, I found a glitch in Throwback much like one from the SM64DS version. I haven't been able to replicate it, but I was pushed through the floor by the Whomp and top and send flying down to the boss (I presume this can be done on any big whomp, even ones in the Bowser levels). I was either jumping or ground pounding or spinning when he fell on top of me (don't remember which), and then after a brief gravity glitch I landed at the mega-whomp fight. It would be awesome if anybody could replicate and video this trick.

That is not a "New" shortcut. If you look through the posts I already posted that shortcut with a video ( www.youtube.com/toufool31 )  of it about a week ago.
Don't worry, because I already have made this mistake of posting an already found shortcut twice x3. You did utilize it very well for the green star, I must say though.

Hope to get some more videos up by Friday, when I get back from my vacation. Smiley
I've avoided pretty much watching any shortcut videos so I could explore myself.  That was a new shortcut/strategy that I found while exploring that stage so it was new to me (albeit not too hard to find).  However, it was was tougher to implement the most efficient path I could think of to reach that shortcut.

Anyway, here is an improved run of "Search for the Toad Brigade Captain".
Now a hit show on the CW

I've encountered some similar glitches involving the Whomps. While trying to get the green star that appears on top of the fort, I somehow managed to get the Whomp to shoot me up into it like a bullet. I've also had the King Whomp hurl me horizontally over twice the distance of the platform you fight him on. I haven't been able to recreate these specific glitches, but it only takes a few minutes of messing around with them on Throwback to realize how unusual their collision physics are, especially when standing back up after falling. You can easily perform stationary triple jumps by simply mashing A as they stand up.

I made a demonstration video showing off some tricks on Honeyhop Galaxy:

Not sure how much time could be saved by doing the level without the bee suit, but I feel like it should definitely be faster, if optimized, since the bee suit has such slow vertical movement (and no long jumps).
Super Mario Galaxy 2 - Throwback Galaxy - Green Star 1 - 10.25

Flipsville Galaxy - Flip-Flooping in Flipsville - 1.27.38

I uploaded other SMG2 videos as well.  The Flip Flopping in Flipsville run was pretty clean for the current strategy that I made.

GWAHAHAHAHA!
Here is my 71-Star Run Route that I'm not doing in a long time due to some Wii Remote problems.
I can only show the first four segments, as something is going on with the scroller while typing in the next star, and it's annoying me.
SEGMENT 1
(Beginning Cutscenes)
1. Sky Station 1 - Peewee Piranha's Temper Tantrum (Comet Medal)
SEGMENT 2
2. Yoshi Star - Saddle up with Yoshi
3. Yoshi Star - Spiny Control
4. Spin Dig - Digga-Leg's Planet (Comet Medal)
5. Fluffy Bluff - Search for the Toad Bridage Captain
SEGMENT 3
6. Rightside - Breaking the Laws of Gravity
7. Rightside - The Great Crate Incerator
8. Flip-Side - Think before you Shake (Comet Medal)
9. Bowser Jr.'s Fiery Fotilla - Gobblegut's Aching Belly (Comet Medal)
SEGMENT 4
10. Puzzle Plank - The Puzzling Picture Block (Comet Medal)

Sorry to disappoint you, but you cannot get the Sky Station Comet to appear that early. Comets only start to appear after you have done 4 stars in World 3, and your first one will most likely be The Shadow Lining comet in Cloudy Court, but it could be another one. So yea, I suggest you do all those comets that start appearing in World 3 right away if you want to have enough stars to progress.  Grin

Was infinite flutter fixed in the PAL version? Can't seem to get it to work.
Stand: Devil's Call in your Heart
i don't think so. the game was supposed to be a worldwide launch so PAL copies must have been printed before it released in NTSC territories.

the timing for the glitch is a bit weird so it's no wonder you might not get it at first. i have the NTSC release and can barely do the glitch.
