I was checking the Nicovideo RTA wiki and a time of 26:06 was just posted for a non-warps run of the SFC version of this game (Super Mario USA). Timing is from game start to popping the cork out of the jug at the end.

Does anyone know if this is a record for non-warps, and are there any significant differences between this and the NES/FC version?

No significant changes at all between SMB2 NTSC or Super Mario USA but when you say warpless = all levels right? 20 finished levels at the end? This game haven't seen action for lot of years on all levels. Could be a WR, if Andrew isisn't sitting on a secret time ofc! Wink Link?

Also: http://sv.twitch.tv/svenne1138/b/327792407 Is this common?
It is on nico live, so you would not be able to see it unless you have a premium nico account, but I can record and upload it if anyone is interested in seeing it.

And yes, it is all levels run.  It is faster than the one on SDA, and I haven't seen any other time for it, so I just want to confirm before I get it announced on Sunday Sequence Break.

Go ahead, but if you see a any% run that beats the SDA record, it would not be a wr, some people keep their times private. And yeah, would love to see the video. I have access to menboo's all videos, so I guess it's not him.

Yeah, ymgc's record is 26:06 (done yesterday).  As Caracarn said, there's no video outside of Nico live (maybe there will be later?), but the same player has a video of 26:41, which s/he got on July 22: http://en.niconico.sarashi.com/?1342951546

Apparently, the Nico runs are timed from pressing Start on the title screen, to the moment your characters pulls up the cork on the jar to release the fairies.  That's probably about 6 seconds extra compared to the SDA method of timing, not sure though.

But wait, this is for Super Nintendo, I thought you ment FC vs NTSC, I think it's faster then NES! But NES got all our new glitches, so it must be another catergory then NES. You can't even do double jumps on SNES (They fixed alot of glitches) but you can do the carpet glitch on SNES and this guy does not use it in that 26:41 video, hopefully he does it in 26:06! You can run all the way from start to birdo in 1-2 on SMAS, Someone should tell her/him! Would save her/him like 4 seconds more!

but this is a new WR for SMAS, no doubt! Smiley I guess it could be WR for SMB2 aswell, I don't know who to judge that anyways! And it would give more interest to smb2, me like! Smiley

I screen capped the video from nico and I will upload it privately to youtube.  Anyone here interested tell me your youtube name and I will give you access to the video.

I'm pretty sure he does the carpet glitch, but he doesn't do those screen wraps like on 1-1 and 1-3. I guess those might not work on SFC version though.
Hi! I'm andrewg!
I'm not sure if the time is good or really awful. It's probably OK though. I think the NES time will go under 23 once it's actually optimized

I added you to the access list andrew, I don't know Svenne's youtube name though.

I hope so, I wrote my youtube name on a PM, need to see how this holds up!

Those warps cannot be done on SFC or SNES. I tried that on SNES at the same time as I did my NES testing. I recently bought Super Mario All-Stars for NTSC, so gonna see if there is any difference between it and PAL! Smiley Now I got all 4 versions of the game! Cheesy

Might there not be six? J, US and PAL for both SNES and NES? xD

Haha, Alko. That is true!^^ But I don't know if I wanna do runs on them, would be double the workload for gameplay exactly the same! Wink So Super Mario USA & Super Mario USA from the Super Mario Collection (All-Stars in Japan) is something I would buy for fun, not for runs! Smiley Even Seven if you count doki doki panic but I don't know about doki doki, you cannot run in that game so it would be different indeed, perhaps even boring! Smiley

And then we got the handhelds, if our tricks can be used there, it would be worth a look! Wink

Edit: Doki Doki Panic is something I could do just for the heck of it!

Why is the video private?
because it's someone else's run and I don't want to upload it publicly on youtube.  If you are interested in watching just tell me your youtube name and I will add you to the access list
General Kong - Bullets and Bananas
^  I'm interested.  Smiley  My youtube name is jddk28
ok ygmc beat his record today, new time is 25:27.  And it is actually on regular nicovideo now so anyone should be able to watch this.

Back from vacation. Time to pick up the pace. Wink Watch out!

Are you running away or circling round the earth to attack from behind? Wink
There is something about this game. I just cannot get the run I want. I am too impatient for speedrunning as of late. Sad

Hi! I'm andrewg!
My Personal Best thus far, 14 seconds over my SDA run:

EDIT2:
I want a much better time still. I think I can get a ridiculous time. I need a few weeks, maybe a few months. I hope to post a decent warpless run by October, and hopefully finish both of these runs by December.
General Kong - Bullets and Bananas
Not bad at all.  Easily sub 9 if the world 6 Birdos hadn't given you so much trouble.  And one Wart miss.  Good stuff.
My consistency on the last stage is improving. I think I lost 9 seconds in 7-2 alone.
Smörgåsbord
Awesome dude, on the 1-1, you gain 10 second on your SDA record alone! Smiley

Hi! I'm andrewg!
So, maybe I won't finish this run, ever. This is starting to feel like a chore, and it's not a good thing. I took a break from speedrunning the past few months. Going back to it now again, I'm just not having fun with it and I don't know why.

I think I need to take another break. I'm not sure how long it will be until I come back to speedrunning. I will of course do it for the marathon (if I can go), but something is just wrong.

I don't know what to spend my time on anymore. I think maybe this is just because I've already speedrun the games I wanted, accomplished most of the goals I set out to do, and now I've subconsciously decided that I should be using my time differently.

EDIT: Really, I think I'm going to "retire" for a little while. I will be back I'm sure. Thanks for all the support. Bye guys.
