Actually when I messed around with the wall jump on emu yeserday, I found that the is only a one frame opertunity to nail the wall, jump and the pipe in the last level requires you to do pretty much a full jump, so you'll have to be very acurate and lucky at the same time.
well, some people would put value in this achievement and if you won't, then fine. frankly, i don't need your respect. i don't respect you much. the acknowledgement from scott and andrew, whom are my peers, is all i need...plus anyone who would be nice enough.
If you can explain to me why it is impressive to achieve a time that someone else has already got, that would be great. Sorry, I don't respect TG much as a game source, and frankly only care about records when someone beats an old one.
And TBH, I didn't get an attitude with you when you came around here posting as soon as your record was announced, looking for praise and "omg you are the best gamer ever" responses. Why else would you go around self promoting yourself?
Here is an idea, if someone posts something which is obviously an achievement and the only thing you have to contribute with is insults then just shut up instead.
Players have been playing this game forever and now the current record might not even be beatable without glitches, under that scenario ties are absolutely interesting and it would also be interesting to know how it compares to Scotts run on a frame-by-frame level. If its faster there I would not only see it as a tie but a new record, regardless of what SDA or TG says.
Even if you are not interested others might well be, so stop acting like a jerk.
Sorry, this is not a place to brag about your records you get on some other worthless site. I don't go around saying " I JUST SCORED 362900 ON WING FORTRESS FOR THE SONIC CENTER :link:" It doesn't add anything to the discussion at all.
But it's the same as saying he tied scott's 5:05, possibly even beat it by a bit, I think it was acceptable for him to do that, maybe he's planning on getting a 5:04 by SDA now that he's gotten this 5:05.
I wouldn't be suprised by a 5:04 considering this acheivement.
Very nice Trevor! I wonder if anyone else will get the same time or if someone shave of another second somehow. And how fast is this one? Have you compared it to Scotts run? Exactly the same time?a little slower or did you run perfect?
thanks for that great post MMOfan. thanks to everyone with kind words on my achievement
my time is a little slower than scott's. if he has "about 5:08.7" as he said on TG, and mine is 5:08.875 (after capturing and checking in virtualdub), then the difference should be about .175.
stanski, the next time you're proud of anything you've done, should we be dismissive? I'm sorry if you're having a bad day, or if the slightest mention of Twin Galaxies sends you into a rage, but you're acting a little out of line here.
Anyway... I have two questions, out of curiosity. First, is it within reason for a human to get a 358 on 4-2? That would require climbing the beanstalk at 378; the best I've managed before is 377.
Next, if one were to match sdkess's times, but get a 358 on 4-2 and a 310 on 8-4 (that's a 2 unit improvement), is that enough for under 5:08? If not, sdkess's run might already be unbeatable, as far as TG rules are concerned.
Lucid, I can get 358s on 4-2 consistantly, but it does not save any time. I also get 310s consistantly on 8-4, which also does not save time...
311 is possible on 8-4, meaning by TG rules Scott's run can be imrpvoed by about .4 seconds.
My 5:09 has the same number of game unit mistakes as scott's current run, which was extremely annoying. :-/ He messed up by 3 game units, but it's really like he messed up by one.
"Next, if one were to match sdkess's times, but get a 358 on 4-2 and a 310 on 8-4 (that's a 2 unit improvement), is that enough for under 5:08?"
so, no that's not enough for under a 5:08,it should be like that though...
Are you telling me that on 4-2, a 358 and a 357 are the same thing, and that on 8-4, a 309 and a 310 are the same thing? That doesn't sound right to me.
sdkess also slowed down when it wasn't neccessary on 8-1, so I imagine there's a small amount of room for improvement there as well.
Super mario bros. 1 is dumb.. the 21 frame rule prevents him from losing any time in this run. you can get an extremely high 199 in 8-1 and not lose time, or so i've heard...
I am about 99% sure the only part of scott's run that can be improved is in 8-4 by .4 seconds or so, I think he messed up going down the pipe, it's kind of expected, as it is very difficult to pull that off perfectly.
"Are you telling me that on 4-2, a 358 and a 357 are the same thing"
a high 357 and 358 are the same... this is the same thing on 1-1, you can get a 380 going into the pipe underground, and be .3-4 seconds slower than if you got a 380 towards the higher end.
There are spots he slowed dwon, but he knew he was able to slow down without losing time, I realy wish the game were different...
So a 5:08/5:05 takes a bit of luck, and still a ton of skill.
EDIT: Scott's 309 was basically a 310 becuase he got a high 363 going down the second pipe accessed by the coin block
I did not know too well of this, and so i wouldn't have thought that getting my exact same game unit times would somehow save me .6-7 seconds
stanski, the next time you're proud of anything you've done, should we be dismissive? I'm sorry if you're having a bad day, or if the slightest mention of Twin Galaxies sends you into a rage, but you're acting a little out of line here. .
The latter is pretty true :P.
Anyhow, back on subject, I've figured it out using virtualdub timings and even if you could do something identical to a TAS timing without using any tricks that are banned/humanly impossible (starting off the level differently), it is impossible to get a 5:04, flat out, without using a walljump, alternate pipe, etc.
Oh, and the part he screwed up in 8-4 was the water area i believe. He loses 1 time unit there, but even a 311 is only .35 or so faster than a high 309 like he got.
I've been experimenting with a few things and I think you're right... You cant get close enough to the next 21 frames going down the pipe accessed by the coin block in 8-4 to save .35? probably not, I've always thought I pulled that part off rather slow.
