you shouldn't be taping over current best runs, if for some reason you don't get a better run, you won't have any run at all that's taped when you tape over them each time. just a suggestion to keep the best one and only tape over it if you already beat it on another tape (or perhaps on the same tape). just some suggestions. we wouldn't mind a few mistakes either if there are insane parts in other places for instance.
Did a 1:04:18 last night. No deaths, and by the time I reached the second floor, I was doing like 20 seconds better than ever before. I honestly can't recall anything going badly up until that point. Then, I kept making little mistakes that added up, right until the end of the game. Chuckya grabbing me and throwing me down a slope, maybe. Just little things. I was extra cautious in Tick-Tock Clock, so no mistakes there, but at least 30 seconds lost just from going slower. Then of course, Cruiser Crossing the Rainbow (which I've probably practiced more than any other star in the game) cost me a good 40 seconds, then another 30 in Bowser in the Sky, and finally 2 missed throws in the last fight for 30 seconds.
Such a good run, gone so badly. I can't just settle for this one, I must do better!
I don't think there has ever been a long single-segment run with no mistakes. Unless they're terrible forget about it and just keep that run. As long as you beat current records it's impressive. But I could understand if you feel you HAVE TO get it perfect, just don't think we wont be impressed.
Oh, I know there will be mistakes. There will always be mistakes. But losing entire MINUTES in only a couple of places is just unacceptable, IMO, especially in a run that's only an hour. If it was a 5-hour OoT run or something in only one segment, well, that's entirely different.
I think I've got Tick-Tock Clock figured out now, which is good. Cruiser Crossing the Rainbow, I found a way that is about 5 seconds slower but gives me a success rate of like 90%, so I'll probably just use that. The final Bowser... I just need to get lucky with throwing I guess, and not fall on the way there
about the bowser throws, there is a way to do it that takes a little longer, but you have much lower chances of missing, and is still faster than missing even once. The way you do it is you dont even spin it that fast but just make sure it goes in the direction of hte bomb and then run at it as fast as you can and then just toss it gently on the bomb. If you already know this and are talking about the 3rd throw, then sorry for wasting your time. Anyway if you didnt know this just watch both the 16 star runs (forgot which video it was) and its used in all the bowser fights. Good luck with 1:01 or dare i say it, sub 1 hour?
1:03:42(?) just now. Had a RIDICULOUS death in Tall Tall Mountain and lost well over a minute. Also had some ill fortune in Bowser in the Fire Sea...
On the plus side, Rainbow Ride went perfectly with my new method. Missed 1 Bowser throw in the final fight, but by then it didn't make much of a difference anyway. Maybe one more run later tonight.
Keep it up dude! By the way, are you using the camera-lock method for bowser so the spikes are always centered in the screen? Makes it easier to aim since its not on an angle.
1:02:56, according to my stopwatch, from starting to move outside the castle to touching the big star after Bowser 3. Played back on tape, it might be shorter (as was the case with my 1:04:17... I watched it this morning to write down my splits and the tape ended at 1:04:11).
Well, not so much as >:(. Major mistakes: 2 missed throws against Bowser 2 ( :o) and some general jackassing around in Tick-Tock Clock. I was at like 1:01:50 or so when I started the last fight, so I knew I was getting 1:02. Yet, I still missed like 2 throws and got hit by some fire. I was getting worried that I would get 1:03 before it was all over...
I'm going to save this tape, but not send it in just yet. I'll try for a few more days, and if nothing good happens, I'll send in this 1:02.
i might try to beat this. im not sure yet. probably after i get smb1, 2 ,3 and smw records i would go for that. but that is not likely to happen that soon. well i guess it could i have to think about it.
Ah, SM64. Keep up the good work, I can't wait to see this run. I like the SM64 runs about as much as the OoT runs, mainly because I know exactley what's going on in them, to the point I'm convinced that I could emulate it after a little bit of practice. Here's to seeing some great tricks and a 1:01/1:02 run!
