Alright I might be willing to admit that JRB could be worth it. Still needs concrete evidence though; keep in mind that Myles :18 would be in ideal conditions, like the cannon already open and so on. A lot of those times are like that I imagine.

And you can't do the merry-go-round because that requires star 1 which takes well over a minute.

Ah, my bad on that. JRB BttSP with the glitch isn't quite 18 seconds but it's close, like 22 or so.

hadn't even seen this discussion about JRB, I figured out how to get that star a while back, but it was always very difficult to get. I think That getting 100 coins on cool, cool mountain is the best way to go. I'm going to time a few things again to see something about cool, cool mountain.

Not really. The fastest way to get 100 coins on CCM is by getting 25 coins then doing the big penguin race to earn 75 coins. The two problems with this is that the big penguin race is slow in the first place, and that the last star engs up ON the ice brick slide area at the end... 100 coins on WF is a lot more reasonable than 100 coins on CCM. 100 coins on WF + red coin star on WF runs up about 70 seconds on the TAS route.

exactly... but the current run has that star. that is exactly what I do, i'm hoping it'll work out well...

I guess I'll post a video of how i do it possibly.

I guess WF would be more reasonable, you get the 8 red coins right? seems difficult though.

it takes about 1 minute 30 seconds to get both stars in CCM, i beleive. it is a little slow...

The penguin star alone takes 50 seconds so that's not bad. Fastest route I believe actually avoids the blue coins.

You only need 24 or 25 before getting in the maze, but you HAVE to get the blue coin at the beginning or you're screwed. As long as your alignment is proper, the star being on ice shouldn't matter. Actually, when I did it somehow it was rather amusing in that the penguin actually came and pushed me offscreen during the star retrieval animation; which is both amusing and helpful.

yeaj, same thing happened to me, but it wasn't helpful, since i didn't get the penguin star... this seems to be the problem, but i've found a way around it i beleive, to get both these stars took somehwere between 1:20 and 1:40 time wise.

the fastest route does not get the blue coins?

I have a fast route i go by, but i have also discovered another route that seems to be about the same time without the blue coins.

I did notice that if you were going for just that star, the penguin pushing you would be helpful, but it is not, since you do not get the "race the big penguin" star.

Yeah that's why I said the ice bridge is tricky because you have to finish first then longjump back up the slope. If you jump and get the star before you finish the penguin pushing you will not register as your victory, because you kind of glitch into him anyway. If the time it takes is 1:40 it's not wroth it at all.... if it gets down to 1:20 then we're talking.
