Remember your mantra.
I have done several attempts of this under appreciated Super Nintendo game.

Okay, maybe I am being a little generous. It is pretty slow paced, especially for a speedrun. Originally I started doing this game as a joke, but after about a dozen full play throughs, I began noticing little things that make for a faster end time.

Anyway, I got a new PB the other day, 1:10:21
I didn't highlight it, but when I beat it again I will if anyone is interested.

Minus the childhood part.

Honestly, I wish you luck in working on this. I played it as part of a random games night some months ago and while it seemed "novel" I would question how much fun and speed can be brought out of it. Regardless, I'm looking forward to seeing some runs so I can be proven wrong. Good luck!
Totally Radical Awesome Game
Oh man, I was thinking about doing this, (also as a joke) there are some pretty good maps on gamefaqs if you havnt seen them.
As far as potential time savers go, I have no idea. Getting lucky on Biollante's stage and not having to fight Battra twice are the obvious ones.
Do you get any items? When do you get Super Godzilla?
This game is really bad, but I like it and want to know more haha.

I've been playing this game a lot recently and I have a route mostly planned out. I recorded a test SMV (SNES9x 1.52) to get an idea of what a submittable time would be and the result was about 47 minutes. My best guess is that sub-55 is a good initial goal, but sub-50 is the real target for a serious run. My SMV doesn't get the best placement for the professor's lab in stage 3 (second-best though) and Mechagodzilla was unusually aggressive, so it might be that sub-45 is possible with incredible luck. I won't kill myself trying for it though.

I doubt anybody would be willing to play this to help me out, but there are a couple issues I'd like help figuring out. The first thing is that Biollante can be glitched into becoming harmless, but I don't understand why it works. I need to figure this out before I begin serious attempts, because it saves a lot of time and guarantees I can spam hyper fire breath instead of sad tail whips or normal fire breath.

My theory is that it has something to do with escaping before the first feeler disappears completely. I seem to have better luck with it when I punch the second feeler at least twice before I kill the first one. I try to escape the battle from the far left, so that the screen fades immediately. The problem is that it doesn't always work. There has to be something I'm missing. I don't know if it would help to look at the RAM watch or some such, but I don't understand that stuff anyway. (If someone else wants to check it though, please let me know if the second feeler's HP is 0 or something strange like that.)

The other thing I'd like help with is a proper route through stage 5. I did the best I could, but looking at that map makes my head hurt.
I know the route for stage 6 will involve stepping on a whole bunch of mines to the lab and then it's a straight shot to Bagan, but stage 5 is just a total mess with the Super Godzilla triggers. The route would be simple if I fought Mecha-King Ghidorah with normal Godzilla, but that fight would be difficult and would take much longer than transforming first. Even with the two extra transformation sequences, the fight is such a joke as Super Godzilla that it makes up for it.

As for the route itself, I'll drop it in here in case someone is crazy enough to join me in running this. (Or if I get really bored and drop this. That way, most of the work is done already.)

Super Godzilla - Speed run notes

Test SMV time: 47:12
Expected time for submission: 50:00?

Stage 1: Reset until King Ghidorah appears in 1-B. Resetting for a red orb is probably optimal, but not worth the hassle unless you manage a few hyper fire breath attacks during the fight. When fighting King Ghidorah, never stop moving forward and be quick with your punches. The ideal fight will end without him ever attacking you. Reset if he ever uses a special attack.

If it helps, you can delay your punch after a special to see if he's going to counter. King Ghidorah's gauge hits maximum and drops almost immediately, so he can be stunlocked out of a counter if you just delay your punch for a second. Even if it's slower, it might be better to do this for consistency.

Stage 2: Go directly to the mothership and don't dodge any mines in your path. For small UFOs, use this combo: ram, punch, and ram until it goes down. Never use a special on a UFO (including the mothership). When you fight the mothership, ram it until its HP stops dropping rapidly and then back off before ramming it again.

For Mechagodzilla, stutter step in and punch. Back off only long enough to trigger your attack window, then get as close as you can before using it. Try to keep it locked in the corner as long as possible. When you see its bar skyrocket (it's random), block and force it to charge you instead of using a special. Repeat the whole process until it dies. If you fought the UFOs correctly and Mechagodzilla isn't incredibly aggressive, you shouldn't need to heal. It might be worthwhile to pick up a healing item nearby before starting the fight. (Note: Don't try the King Ghidorah stunlock on Mechagodzilla. It won't work because its gauge stays full too long.)

Stage 3: Reset until the professor is inside the 2-B base (16%?). If your sanity can't handle it, use the warp to take out the mothership before checking out 1-A and 2-A. 3-A is your last resort, since it's still on the way to Biollante. If you still don't have the professor by then, you really should reset.

For Biollante, you want to glitch the fight. I don't know what causes it yet, but it seems like you need to spread a few punches between the feelers. Kill one of them and immediately escape. Quickly re-enter the fight and, if done correctly, Biollante will still have one feeler up that won't move. From this point on, Biollante can't attack you and you're free to special it to death. Unless you're going for a serious run, it's probably not worth resetting if the glitch doesn't work.

Stage 4: Try to pick up an HP restore on the way to Battra. It's fastest to survive the trip across the mines and use the HP restore when you start the fight with Battra. If you don't get an HP restore, try to take enough damage that the last mine kills you. If you can't manage that, just ram a UFO incorrectly (just ram it the whole time) to die and continue. The only downside is that with the HP restore method, you'll be fighting Battra with only around 200 HP and you can easily lose the run here.

For Battra, wobble back and forth as you close the gap. Use a red orb if you picked one up before the fight. Ram it as necessary. You won't fight the second Battra at all if you go back the same way you came. Step on mines as necessary and kill UFOs the usual way, since HP shouldn't be an issue any more. Only use a special on a UFO if you're extremely low on HP (30 or less).

Stage 5: Transform into Super Godzilla using 2-B -> 2-A -> 4-A. Charge punch Mecha-King Ghidorah and special until it dies.

Stage 6: Take the land mine route to the lab and then head straight to Bagan. Pick up the nearby item if you can. It'll either be a red orb to speed up the fight or any other orb to guarantee you won't die. During the fight, charge punch all the time. Walk forward a bit after each one before backing off, or else the attack window probably won't open. Immediately use whatever it gives you and block after it hits, because Bagan will almost always charge you afterwards. Repeat this process until you win. Finishing Bagan with a special is ideal, since timing ends when you use it.

[Edit]: Nevermind. I just figured Biollante out. It's actually pretty simple and I don't know why I didn't think to test it before. When you start the fight, there are two feelers and one of them is closer to Biollante. Taking out that one triggers the glitch, because apparently the game thinks you must have taken out the first one in order to reach the one in the back. Would be logical, if it wasn't for the fact that they shift around while trying to attack you. Oops? The only problem with this now is that it's like a shell game and I'll have to keep track of where that feeler goes.

I also think I found a route for stage 5, so I guess that's that. Practice attempts soon?
