I've just bought myself an NTSC SNES and having a hard time finding the super gameboy NTSC version so I was looking for the Super Famicom version: http://www.solarisjapan.com/super-gameboy-cart-only/

I was under the impression that an NTSC SNES and Super Famicom were identical in hardware but that site says the cart will not work on US consoles. Is this true and my only option will be to track down the NTSC version?

It will work, but only if you break the tabs on the inside of your Super NES. Japanese carts don't physically fit because of these, which is why people say they "don't work".

There are other options though. Not too sure about the SGB....but normal SFAM carts can be used with a simple pass through converter, or use what I did - a Game Genie (though good luck finding one I guess).
Cutting the tabs is a hilariously easy option, taking about two minutes of your time, and you probably shouldn't consider any other method short of a Japanese console.

If you've got a modded SNES for playing SFC carts, I would highly recommend the Japanese Super Game Boy 2 over either the North American or Japanese Super Game Boy - the SGB messes with the clock speed of games (basically overclocks them - see https://kb.speeddemosarchive.com/Super_Game_Boy_timing for the full story), whereas as I understand it the SGB2 emulates the GB pretty accurately and doesn't require time adjustment for speedruns.
HELLO!
Oh wow I did not know that. Thanks for posting that.

Was gonna open a new thread but I'll ask here. My NTSC SNES arrived and I got the Starfox game from another seller. I noticed something weird. It has like a metal prong thing on one side but not on the other. Can anyone else who has this cart see if they have the same? It looks like it should have them on each side. The game does play fine.

Metal prong is only for extra grounding to the cartridge slot I would imagine. It's location suggests that it is specific to the extra cartridge pins associated with the Super FX enhancement chip. An additional prong on the left would probably be overly redundant, chances are the game would work just fine without any prongs too.

Googled with prong and found the answer "Below the right chip is a metal prong, while below the left chip in the same spot, there is no metal prong. I don't know what's causing this issue"

Thanks.

When I first put in the game it played fine but when I ejected and put it back in it like failed to load a few times. I got it to work again. I cleaned everything. I'm guessing it's maybe just old age and the connectors wearing.
All SFX-chip cartridges only have one of those, no worries Smiley
