Segmented on this game would be kinda :-/. I really don't see the point of it, because it will hardly be faster (depending on upgrades, might actually be slower), and will only make the run less impressive overall.
It'll only be two segments, of course - levels 1-5 and levels 6-B.
It's made possible by the fact that I was already going to be switching over from the boomerang to the Holy Water there, and it allows me to take more time-saving risks with the second half of the run.
I started a new topic for this, but got several negative replies based on a misunderstanding wherein I accidentally implied that I was doing the actual run on an emu. And then it got locked for topic redundancy, even though it was started because I was afraid of getting this one nuked for necromancy.
Apologies for the misunderstandings
The flesh of the update is: I'm getting a USB gamepad soon (Thursday) so I can practice on ZSNES and put the level runs up on Youtube for analysis, thus aiding the swift completion of the run (and the game) immensely.

i hope to see some results very soon. we need a SC4 run here.
So do I. My time is running out for a VHS recording.
EDIT: False alarm. I was unable to locate a pad suitable to the purpose that would not break the bank. The main difficulty lies in the responsiveness of the D-Pad - they were all too loose.
I think a SS run of this game would be most impressive and replicating the TAS run on this (which is amazing) would be worth trying. Or at least using a similar route.

There are way too many low-percentage boosts on the TAS for me to even consider replicating it (I could try, but it would take a couple years to complete - try opening the .smv and see how many run-throughs it takes to get it to work the same way the video does), and of course I don't have the reflexes to fast-whip like that.
As for SSing it, we'll see. I haven't gotten the gamepad yet, therefore I can't practice individual stages, therefore I don't even have the start of an SS route worked up.
The segmented version is only going to be in two (maybe three) parts, that fact being dictated by weapon placements. (1-5, 6-B with optional third segment for Dracula)
I could understand starting one at the beginning of Stage B-1 since B-1 through B-3 is hard, but Dracula in CV4 is probably the easiest to beat outside of Castlevania II.
You know I never actually played this (Dad bought me Sega stuff when I grew up) but I recently got it on my Wii and have only played it once! I'll have to get my Wii back from my sis and play it again (she has it in her room atm due to massive Master System whoring in my room muwahaha!). However I thought it was awesome when I did play it!
I was just making a statement in regards to segmenting at B-4 (Dracula). I'm not suggesting you segment there. Preferably, I'd rather see this run NOT segmented at all!
Not particularly hard, unless you want to speedrun it. Most of the enemy behaviours are randomized, making it basically a "try till you get the right combination of variables" run.

Anyway I'll get my times and post back. See ya and don't give up.
Good luck. I'll be right here to tell you how badly you actually did
EDIT: I'm not giving up this time. If I'm going to sink $30 into a gamepad to practice this with, I'm not going to stop until I have a submissible run.
I've gotten 16-17 before already, and that was without the extra tricks I'll be looking for as I practice and/or pull the 'possible' ones from the TAS.
Well, finally got the controller, and though I truly despise it as a piece of electronic refuse (it occasionally "forgets" commands, which is a royal pain in the ass for a precision game like this and also for Mega Man games with the 10-12 hertz button-mashing) it'll have to do, and was worth the $30 to accelerate this run. As for getting the stuff onto YouTube, I'm not sure. My computer is too slow to run all the AVI software. Question: Can Snes9x record an AVI of a replay?
EDIT: Better question: Will the AVI run at full speed if a) it's possible and b) I use it?
There's an old thread of this probably a few pages down. However, I think the guy that was working on it has given up. Somebody find and link that and then lock this one.
LIES! I am always working on this run. In fact I have my Stage 1-5 route down and I have the recorder on every time I play. It's probably going to take all summer to get the random factors to align in my favour sufficiently that I can finally resume work on the other two thirds of the bloody game :S
EDIT: The only thing that could possibly affect the route at this point: Does anyone know whether fastwhip is possible by a human being?
So what happened here? This would be an awesome game to run SS. Is anybody still working on it?
I am interested try speedrun that game in future. Just in last week i make some individual levels runs and trying find out some speedtricks. I just make some amazing finds using enemy boost shortcuts and other stuff.
I need buy this game my virtual console so i can recorded that. I already have this game my Snes but if i try recorded i need buy this game my VC.
I think i try recorded individual levels on youtube. I think single segment is absolutely too frustrating yet. This requires alot practice and luck. Game is quite long and there is lot way die.
But as well i am interested see speedrun with this game and i am as well interested make own speedruns in future and check out some speedtricks.
