General Kong - Bullets and Bananas
Huge Congratulations to Joe, that was such an amazing run!  You executed nigh flawlessly.  So much Castlevania IV hype this past week.

Keeping on the hype train:  I improved the CV4 Low% category to a submittable 41:21!

The SDA Castlevania IV page is in for a complete overhaul...
Yes, 32:28 new PB/WR Smiley I plan for DK and Paul to commentate with me, and then I will submit.

Summary by each split:

Stage 1: Solid. Can only gain 0.3sec at most which is really difficult to do. Will almost never be ahead after this split.

Medusa: Solid. Will almost never be ahead after this split.

Stage 2: With the strategies in my 32:38, it was impossible for me to beat this split, and I could never figure out why. Hanage recently developed a new strategy that saves about 10f. This was the only way I could beat this split. But it was only this run, that I lost time with Hanage's new strategy. Still a solid split, seeing as I can only gain 0.3sec at most.

Stage 3: Nearly ideal. Best pace I've ever had at this point (-2.7), -2.5 coming in at a close second. This was +0.1 from my gold split, which is absolutely insane. I'm only ONE SECOND behind my sum of best after Stage 3!!!!!!! If you EVER see me ahead at this point, 1. the split will be gold, and 2. I will probably faint right then and there, making myself unable to continue the run.

Puwexil: Solid. No lagless 2nd room, but good boss fight.

Stage 4: Solid, but no early orb (not under my control). My consistency with the zip has been beyond incredible lately, only failing it 4 of the last 30 - 35 attempts!

At this point, my run is "perfect." I'm just over 4 SECONDS AHEAD already. This was the god-pace. Cherish it all you can, we may never see this kind of early-game again.

Stage 5: Immediately off-the-bat, a harpy appears and hits me backwards. This really disappointed me. It threw off my focus, and at the beginning of 5-2, I make a very minor mistake of pressing the jump button too early, resulting in Simon standing there throwing a cross at nothing. Time lost = 3 seconds. Now I'm only 1 second ahead approaching Stage 6. The run turns into nothing too special :\

Stage 6: Solid, besides no 1-cycle chandeliers (4sec). Still gained 1 second from everything else being solid. I only have 4 seconds to save on this stage now, which is 1-cycle chandeliers.

Stage 7: Best RNG in the 1st room, but I make a huge mistake by jumping over an axe knight too late, resulting in me getting hit backward. Enemies and a flying axe surround me, so I had to improv and get out of this situation ASAP. I take a hit while stuck on the stairs, so I can walk through the axe knight infront of me without taking damage from him. Didn't get the good axe RNG in book jump room, rest of the stage was good. Lost 2 seconds on this split, can gain a maximum of 4 - 5 if all goes right. About 0.4sec ahead at this point.

Stage 8: I had to walk under the 1st spike platform, which sets up different damage boosting strategies throughout the stage. Since I have to do the lag strategy in the last room, I lose a potential 1 second compared to jumping onto the 1st spike platform + doing lagless strategy in the last room. This 1 second wasn't lost from PB, it was only lost in general.

It was shortly after my 32:38 PB, that I started to do a 1f jump under the spike platform, followed by a couple more precise jumps to keep Simon moving forward without stopping. This occurs at the beginning of the 2nd room. If you mess up the 1f jump, it is instant death. There is no work-around for this, you get it or your run is over. Success with the 1f jump + keeping Simon moving forward through the other spike platforms will gain about 4 seconds over taking this section safely. Furiouspaul, Hanage and I have obligated ourselves to do this trick in every run no matter what (besides races obviously).

I make a very minor mistake of sticking back onto the stairs in the room afterward. The stair jump in the last room is a bit sloppy because I was nervous for it, due to losing consistency with it lately. The rest of the stage goes as planned, but the Frankie fight was a little slow. Gained 4 seconds, can gain another 2 - 3 at most with good spike platform RNG at the start of the stage, and better execution in general.

Stage 9: Very good until the room with the falling blocks. I press the jump button too late and fall down. This only costs me 1/2 second, but it looks bad to me. I don't consider this a big mistake, but I don't consider it to be minor either. I get bad RNG on the 2nd skeleton of the vertical climb, which cost me at least 1 second. The rest was good. Good boss fight as well (ty Dbx for the 2-cross+dboost strategy).

Stage A: Solid, but no Mummy 1-cycle. My PB did not get it either, so I didn't lose 10 seconds for this split. However, some bad RNG at the beginning made me lose 0.3sec on this split. I can gain 11 - 12 seconds at best for Stage A. And I will for my final run, it is required.

Stage B (B-1 & B-2): Solid. Got the best platform RNG at the end, with a reachable platform appearing right away. I gained 3 seconds on this split, because I know some things now that I didn't before (manipulating the final platforms).

Slogra: Optimal. I recently took a deeper look into Slogra, and refined Hanage's strategy. It is very risky because you take 2 intentional damage boosts instead of 1, but the results are much more consistent with getting optimal, or 1 cycle from optimal (2sec per cycle). I gained 5 seconds on this gold split (-0.1 on sum of best), and at this point, I'm 10 1/2 seconds ahead.

Gaibon: I messed up the 1st form and took him down immediately by accident. I'm supposed to take him down immediately on the 2nd form, which is slightly faster. But since I took him down quick on the 1st form, I had to do the strategy for that specific 2nd form, which I haven't done in a very long time. Somehow I got it perfectly, and only lost 0.1sec.

Death: Solid. My old PB didn't do the jump at the end of the fight, so a free 1/2 second is gained. I gained 1 second on this split. -11.3 going into Dracula.

Dracula: Basically perfect until the 2nd form. Then I mistimed my crosses and completely choked. This is my biggest mistake of the run execution-wise. I end with the slowest 7-cycle Drac, losing almost 2 seconds from my split, and almost 7 - 8 seconds overall (1 cycle = ~5sec, 6 cycles is optimal). I end the run -9.8.
Already? Jeez, congrats Joe Cheesy

So fun to watch!  Congrats, Joe!
What is a man?
It's funny how a little competitiveness (is this even a word?) can spur the mind to throw out an awesome run. Congrats Joe! this shit is hype as the doppler theory (once again, is this a thing?) at the moment!!
Well, FuriousPaul had a great run last night, including some amusing conversation with his friend about getting food.

Paul compared the footage of his and Joe's run on Twitch tonight, and apparently Paul reclaimed the record by a fraction of a second.  (Or so it seems.)
I think Paul said in his PB that he was .1 or .01, can't remember which, seconds behind Joe, not ahead,

Regardless, it's crazy seeing this many PB/WR runs back to back.

So Paul went full on beast-mode and just got a MASSIVE PB on stream just a few minutes a go, 32:06!!!
A beast of a run, holy crap.

32:06 was huge improvement. Its really good looking run. Its finally cool see mummy 1 round and slogra 7 round in same run. Damn you Dracula. It was really close make 6 round but litt bit bad rng here and its were going 7 round.

In theory 5 round Dracula seems theory possible on console. IIRC Hanage was really close make it once his run. I never are see 5 round Dracula speedruns also 6 rounded slogra seems really hard one too.

I think this run might be SDA worth. See will Joe or Paul keep redo that one. Its might really hard and long way go for sub 32 minutes.

Paul got his second sub 32:10 and a new WR of 32:05 last night. Extremely good run, he managed to pull off the new clip in stage 1 and the spikejump in stage 9. Drac was being a bit of an a**hole, but a new record nonetheless. Congrats to Paul!

Sub 32:00 is getting real close...
Rye bread, beer and snus
So it finally happened, sub 32 is real. Paul just got a 31:55, and that was without the spikejump and with a 2 cycle mummy. That run could have been a sub 31:50, which is pretty insane to think. Anyways, huge congrats to Paul, this run was a LONG time coming.
I watched the 32:06 but sadly I missed the sub 32. Was hyped for that sooo long. But it was like 4 am in Germany. Sad
Hey all, I have submitted the 31:55 to SDA's verification.  To get the run verified faster go here to be a verifier:

After 1.8 years of playing CV4 for an average of 7 hours per day I am now switching to a new game.  CV4 was awesome, and I will continue to do some runs for it every now and then.
