I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I don't practice level by level because certain sub-weapons to got be places easier. I usually start at either level 1 or level 6.

Savestates FTW. Practicing on emulator is a godsend.

Level 3 is driving me absolutely nuts! But I do fine in the entire level. Near the end there is a jump I always keep messing up on. There is a ceiling overhead, and I 50% of the time hit the ceiling, which leads to death and the loss of my triple shot!!!!

P.S. Please do not post anymore posts about emulators.

Sorry, I only mention it twice because it helps me a lot.

Maybe this video would help you out, if you haven't seen it?
First thing I want to know is how the hell he jumped off the stairs.

down+jump
That just shaved half a second off for every staircase I had to take. Wootage.

NOTE: The .smv format of the run fails because the game is so random.
secret of mana master.
you can't jump off a staircase, but you can jump down a staircase in that game, which i think thats what he meant.
I knew what he meant.

ok, i was talking to Satoryu. not you.
Picking up a few tricks from the TAS, my first level run (to the point where I pick up the jewel) averages 2:41 and my best is 2:39.

I trust you people are all working hard at this run...

...So hard you can't post?

Come on, we've got to keep this run alive! Consistency issues aside, I can get the first three levels done in under 10 minutes.

And as a side note, what would be the official opinion on a No Hearts run? Is that kosher?
secret of mana master.
there's no point posting if either you are too busy doing the run or no one's running it....right?

you don't have to keep the topic alive to do the run....you can go ahead and submit the run without even making a topic or not posting at all. not telling anyone about the run you do. so if you are working on the run and trying to get it done....then get it done and don't worry about this thread mate.
The purpose of the first two paragraphs was as filler for the third paragraph, which was the important one.

Seriously, to someone in upper management, would a no-heart run be acceptable?
Fucking Weeaboo
No, it wouldn't because you start every level with hearts.  Plus it's really pathetic.

It's as lame as a no-coin run in SMB.

And all it would do is make an already stupidly hard run even harder.

I'd work on just getting a normal run up before you worry about trying to do any crazy categories.

No hearts would obviously mean collecting no hearts, and it actually has a very significant effect on the game because you can't grab the advanced whip.

Anyway, you're right - the normal run does take priority. Just I'd prefer to, if it's happening at all, put the two runs on the same DVD/tape/whatever for ease of transport and crap.
Hello all.  I am new to this board, but I've been checking out the speedruns for a while now.  I am here because a friend and I would like to try a Super Castlevania IV run.  We'd record it on my SD recorder off of the TV (A Neuros 2 MPeg recorder).  However, we do have a few questions.

We read the part which means no emulations.  However, would the Wii Virtual Console edition be considered legal, as, though it is an emulation per se, it is a perfect emulation, and due to it's complexity, cannot be altered as a computer emulation can.

My second question is only relevant if the Wii version is allowed: Where must the start point be?  Where the game begins?  Where the Wii Menu is?

I would greatly appreciate answers to my questions, and I look forward to adding some speedruns to the site.

Sincerely,

Wii Virtual Console is allowed.  It's not preferred (as sometimes "emulation" makes the game run a little different), but is allowed.

it is a perfect emulation. i saw no differences whatsoever.

the title screen would be a good spot.
Some of the slowdown was eliminated, and the white flashes when you kill certain stuff was either toned down to changed to light blue light. So no, not perfect emulation.
This run is definitely going to be segmented. I'm going to record a sub-15 first 5 stages at some point, then leave that alone and practice the hell out of the second half of the game.

What's a reasonable estimate for stages 6-B?

i don't think a game that uses passwords can be segmented. you have to do it in one go.
My feelings on The Demon Rush
Satoryu: Then explain the Toejam and Earl 2 run.

You can use passwords to segment this game, but I advise against it since you lose your subweapon and multiple weapon powerups.

haven't seen it. i've just never seen a segmented speedrun of a game with passwords. i thought it was another unwritten rule.
