My feelings on The Demon Rush
I doubt I'm anywhere near covering everything that needs to be covered, but here goes.

The internet connection

I know Essentia's internet connection is good enough for her own streams, but can it handle multiple people using it at once? Are you still looking into a better connection just for the time of the marathon, Essentia?

Recording

Are we going to use Essentia's DVD recorder (IIRC, it has a hard drive)? Or will we use a computer with a capture setup? If we're going with computer, then whose?

Stream setup

I think we're a lot better off combining the game and commentary streams together, especially if Essentia can't get a better internet connection (hers is good for one stream, but I don't know about two). TSG has a good setup for combining the streams, and I know Picture in picture is easy with Xsplit. Yes, I know Xsplit will be pay software by July, but I'm sure someone will put down the 40 dollars for two years.

Also, we're going with Justin.tv. I registered an account, SpeedDemosArchiveSDA. If you're wondering why I didn't go for SpeedDemosArchive, I tried, but the account was already taken, and it was banned for a copyright violation. Normally, I would say we try to dualcast, but I think we're going to be hard enough on Essentia's connection as is.

The website

I assume Arkarian will do this. BTW, when you put JRDQ in a separate folder, ark, make it JRDQ instead of 2011/old, since it looks like we'll have more than one marathon a year.

8-player Castle Crashers Race

Has anyone actually put any thought into who is in the race? 8-player race would be a good casual run, but at the same time, we need to know who is in it.

Mega Man 9

Are Arrow and Duckfist going to race?
Thread title:
I pitched the idea for the Castle Crashers race, I'm not sure if anyone else is interested.  I'll play it, although I need to start practicing it if I do.

I'm down for racing and having a bidding war between the two game modes (buster only vs. normal) in Mega Man 9.  If you have another idea, Arrow, we can do it a different way.

I planning on bringing my DVD recorder, and it has a hard drive on it. I won't have anything recorded on it by the marathon (everything will have either been deleted or burned onto a DVD), so that's 160 GB of recording available. IIRC, it is the same one that Essentia has: Philips DVR 3576H.

I'm all for Castle Crashers, gotta get it for myself now that PSN's back up instead of bumming it up at my buddy's house.

UraniumAnchor, does your PVR have enough capacity to record the entire marathon?
I'm also willing to play Castle Crashers, if we want to do the race.
Everything's better with Magitek
Internet Connection - We found out that we can upgrade to a 100 mb connection just for during the marathon.  It'll cost about $150, plus we'll have to order a new modem, so it would be nice to have the marathon participants chip in some money for it.

Recording - None of my computers here are set up for capture, so we'd need someone to bring one if we want to go that route.  Otherwise, I think we'd be okay with Zyre's and my DVD recorders.

One other thing I wanted to address was food.  Either we could leave everyone entirely on their own for food, or I was thinking that everyone could chip in some money and Denton and I would make sure we had food here at the house at all times - including snack foods, drinks (non-alcoholic), quick meals, and even cooked meals since we'll have a kitchen available.  Anyone else would be welcome to cook, also.

Chipping in for food and a high-speed modem for free lodging is more than fair.
Professional Second Banana
Definitely more than fair - how about if we estimate a total cost for the Internet bandwidth + food and divide that up by the number of people coming (maybe weighted slightly if there are people only coming for a day or two)?  Essentia can make the call if she wants people to mail/paypal her their share in advance (since she'll probably have to pay for the modem/Internet in advance), or if they should just bring a cash or check to the marathon.
SGL Scrublord
Its absolutely fair considering she's hosting, just figure out a number and I'll gladly pay my share. Also, I suppose any other guidelines we should follow should be set up in advance in terms of what to (or not to) bring/do to respect the household. No shoes on the carpet and such Smiley

The version of Castle Crashers played had better be specified. We don't want to put it in the schedule only to find that 3 people on one team expected to play the Xbox version and 1 thought it was the PS3 version.

If it's more convenient, one team could be all PS3, and one could be all Xbox.
I wouldn't mind using my computer to capture and stream, although the PC game block (mainly L4D2) might make things a bit tricky. I am bringing a 750GB external hard drive, as I don't have a ton of space on my internal HD's.

Honestly, they aren't really that different, so I don't see that as a big deal.

It's a USB device so it would just get plugged into a computer. But it doesn't deal well with 240p signals, so we can't use it for anything pre-PS2 era. It'll be good for anything relatively modern, though. 60 hours at max quality would only need about 360 gigs.

We can use one of the many Dazzles for anything lower tech.

I should bring my capture card then, assuming anyone has a free pci-e 1x port. It handles all composite without issue and looks great. It's too bad I wouldn't really want to bring my internal hard drives, I have a 2TB hdd and a 1TB as well.

Edit: It doesn't have a passthrough, but that 16x splitter is like the most amazing thing I've ever heard of.

I think Tranquilite said the computer he's planning on bringing has an HD Capture card as well, so I might not even have to bring the PVR. I probably will just because more backups can only be a good thing in case one of them takes a shit on itself. I might even bring my Linux box since it's tiny and has a fresh new 2 TB hard drive in it.

Oh yeah, he has a BMIP, which is good, only issue I can think of is that it doesn't display component 480p, but I can't think of anything we're streaming that'd have that. Although PSP with component would cause an issue.
Not a walrus
Anything Wii would probably be 480p.

SGL Scrublord
I'm bringing a basic RWY cable for the PSP, so that might not be an issue.

EDIT: Should we open a thread for donation ideas/challenges or should we just PM Mike or a designated organizer?

I'm pretty sure the HDPVR can handle 480p (psp/wii) but I haven't been able to test it yet.
I can join in the Castle Crashers if you're looking for more players.
I posted this in the equipment thread, but I'll post it here, too. I have an SVA to RCA adapter that allows you to hook a PC to a television through the TV's RCA ports. We could possibly use this for the PC games block. If we do, we could probably stream the PC games like we would a normal console game.

so run it from the pc to the tv and back to the pc again?

Basically, yes. Tongue

That is, if there are any complications with capturing/streaming PC games, I figured that would be a quick solution.

Question: Is parking going to be a problem? I know from experience that Utah suburbs usually have plenty of room on the street to park, but there will potentially be quite a few cars present. You don't live on a Cul de Sac or anything do you, Essentia?
