Do you guys know if this stuff applies to marathon vids?? I know from the most recent AGDQ 2014 marathon there are a lot of uploads that were done way before SDA or any users had chance to upload. I PM'd the guy with the most views on my MTPO run asking him to take it down. He has a ton of other runs too if you guys want to PM or report him (Thomas Wigele).

Actually in that case I'd opt for reporting him. I don't know about you guys and potential adblock users but I get ads on his videos. Since it's a recording from a charity stream benefiting a non profit organization this shouldn't be legal.

If he doesn't remove the videos by request it's his fault.

I guess the next step would be to figure out how to report. I tried flagging a few vids but it seemed like a really complicated process or I was doing it wrong.

It sadly is a complicated process for private users. I hope someone actually has some insight into the matter. How Youtube/Google currently handles the flagging is just insanely confusing.

Let's just hope it doesn't have to come to that point.

I'll talk to Mike about it but probably any of the staff members could report him.

Uploading the videos is one thing but sticking ads on them is pretty crass.

Agree, this guy is trying to profit off of our marathons. Please get him reported, I think this would be the form to use:

And this is the URL of the vid I saw, but he uploaded a lot of them it looks like:

SEGA Junkie
I'm not sure what to make of this. Is it just the ads that are at issue here? Because people have been posting marathon videos on Youtube for years prior to their official release and we've celebrated that in the past. :/

He stuck ads on every single one of the uploads, which he is gaining money from, however little. So yes, that's the issue here.

Edit: Not sure when he did it, but they've all been removed now. Good enough. If he hadn't stuck ads on them I wouldn't have cared at all. Trying to get money from it was pretty rude at best.

It could be that he didn't even intend to. I'm pretty sure you don't have to manually activate monitization for every video you ever make, it just becomes the standard configuration. Let's give him the benefit of the doubt and call it an honest mistake.
He had 3 videos uploaded on that account beforehand, it was definitely intentional. The marathon videos are now down and the situation is resolved as far as I know.
All the things
Unless this is an official arm of SDA (pretty sure it's not) we have somebody else doing the same thing:

https://www.youtube.com/user/AGDQuploads

Ads are on all of the videos, but I can't tell if it's intentional or not.
Sent him a PM on Youtube, I'll give him a week before I contact Youtube about it.

It took him a bit more than a week but he did respond saying the ads were on by default (which sounds reasonable) and that he'd remove them all. He seems to have done so.

I'm tempted to talk to Mike about getting the marathons into the content id system just so people can't stick ads on them but I'm not sure I want to encourage use of that method given how much it likes to bite people for idiotic reasons. Maybe the less draconian settings wouldn't cause problems, I'm not sure.
yeah, just use the setting "monitor" or whatever right? that way we have control over whether ads are displayed.
is it a good idea to put a signature on your runs? I'm thinking of having a transparent logo or my name in the corner of the frame then upload it on Youtube or other video sharing web sites so that way it can be easily recognized. Or would that be a problem? I'm sure it could work both ways for the runner and someone else taking the credit but I'm thinking it might help.

As long as you don't submit it here with the watermark on it.
I was talking in general as a run and not submitting it in SDA. I wasn't expecting it would be accepted in here but it's good know.

the more you know........

If you're doing it for runs elsewhere, then it's entirely up to you. How much to you think people will use your footage without permission?

We have another GDQ uploader with (some?) pre-video ad rolls.

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOWDU-iokgQTudah5-4kAIQ

It may only be active on some of the videos? I'm not sure if it's that or some YouTube tracking feature.

Either way, we should figure out some policy about all these folks taking it upon themselves to upload the footage. Not monetizing it is one thing, but it also muddies things as far as having a central location (SDA Channel) where people know they can go for the footage.
I noticed a channel just a couple days ago https://www.youtube.com/user/TheSpeedrunArchive that has a lot of runs from SDA and TASvideos.

Also there is a channel called speedrun https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHhLQ_b6wxOZv0KAit4Yezw that has a lot of AGDQ videos

Just FYI when it comes to GDQ video uploads we're trying to figure out what we want to do about it. Ideally we'd put them under Content ID with the "no monetization" flag (ie people can still upload them but not stick ads on them), but we're not sure if that will actually be an option.

I just found a Splinter Cell run on Youtube.

Mission 1, 3, 5, 7 and 10 are from my segmented run which I submitted to SDA a few months ago and uploaded to Youtube and I´m pretty sure the others are from my single segment Twitch sessions.

Just all that small stuff like how he moves the camera, the moments when he enables nightvision, etc... all that small personal preferences. But I didn´t save any Past Broadcasts on Twitch so I can´t proof that mission 2, 4, 6 ,8 and 9 are mine too.

Just note the shifts from good to bad video/audio quality and the shifts of high risk and save strats from mission to mission.

And as if this wasn´t enough he claims this to be the singlesegment world record. I´m not really upset about it but damn, how cheeky is that?

I talked to him, he pretends to have no idea what I´m talking about. Lets see if he will delete the video.

Edit: Ok, it looks like he removed it or at least set it to private.

This guy has been posting runs from SDA on his Youtube channel with no mention as to whose they are.  Imagine my surprise when I stumbled upon a run of Little Nemo that matched my exact time from 2013.  "Hey, these outdated strats and all the mistakes look familiar!  Oh..."

I started typing up a list of all the runs he has posted to try and get the attention of those whose runs he has stolen.  However, his "collection" is extensive enough that it seemed like a waste of time to list them all.  I don't even have a Youtube account so someone with more e-cred than me should probably deal with it.

I guess I should be flattered, at least?
Borderlands 2 Glitch Hunter/ router.
for the purpose of being brief if your game is from A - L in the alphabet and is only 1 video (so not separate segment videos) you might wanna check his list ....
Fucking Weeaboo
He's done a few segmented runs, merged together. I had some in there (like my Dawn of Mana run). I didn't see any ILs though.
