Would anyone be interested in seeing me speed through -- on an individual basis, most likely -- the single player campaign missions of SC and SC: BW? I already have many strategies for some of the levels...the shortest stage so far I have is around 9/10 minutes, but I'm sure some others will be shorter (maybe an installation stage).

A lot of the shortcuts involve flying over/around things or just practically suiciding your troops to complete the goal. And then of course there's the aspect of microing your troops to do more with less (and hence, less buildtime, research time, etc.)

I'm not as fast as a pro-gamer of course...I max out at around 180APM when I'm in a serious groove, which I think is respectable...I might end up going faster during single player though since everything is fairly predictable (unlike the fogginess of a multiplayer game).

Only one technical problem: I'm using Camtasia and I can't get the sound to work. I can select my micophone input...then you can hear me click, clack, sigh, and make wise-ass remarks. You can also hear the music from my speakers, but of course it seems distant.

*EDIT* I kinda like it like this...I may leave it as is, hehe.
Thread title:
Forward standard-by-ten .
If you can't get game audio, some commentary might be good.  Maybe as a nod to RWAs or something.  OR OR OR you could submit them as RWAs alongside videos with camtasia.  Yeah?

Also, I've got to say that SC is deep and flexible enough to make speed runs an awesome idea.  I'm looking forward to it.
Go for it.  I'll download it.

Yeah, I said it.
I remember a Terran mission in the original StarCraft where you had to take a PSI Emitter (or Disruptor. Whichever) to a certain beacon that was heavily guarded by enemy Terrans. I believe it was either Terran 5, 6, or 7. However, you can beat this quickly by using a Science Vessel to give the PSI-holding SCV a defensive matrix, and having him run for his life through the enemy base, starting from the SW corner of the enemy base. Of course, everything is firing at him, but he has temporary invulnerability. If you do this correctly, and you're fast enough, you can beat the stage in about a minute or so.

Just a heads up.
Ahh the good ol' starcraft days, it's been so long.

I think a speed run would  be wicked. It would be nice to see somebody with actual skill at the game.  Nobody i knew was ever any good at the game so no one ever really got to the later stages of the game.

Good luck to you. Although it would be nice to see someone else join in to get some competition going. hehe.

I would but uh... well, not to imply that APM is the only metric, but mine is like THIRTY.

I have it so you can hear the game sounds from my speakers pretty well...and me...and my furious keyboard/mouse clicks.

The only problems I have right now is the fact that water has random rainbow 'scratches' on them (microsoft paint style) and the ending score screen is almost totally washed out with rainbow colors...you can usually make out the time...I'll have to take screenshots just in case.
MGS for PS1 forever.
That sounds like the same rainbow stuff I saw when playing Diablo II. When you update the drivers of newer video cards Diablo II and Starcraft want to go all funky with colors. If you can change it so that your video card is doing DirectDraw or Software mode. That should do the trick.
Do you know the Muffin Man?
Do it do it do it! I abolutely love SC...used to play it all the time...ah..my beautiful mutaling rush ^_^

Aye, I've done that. There was also one where you had to take a couple dropships and Raynor to a crashed battleship - if you flew the two wraiths and the two dropships you started with along the bottom edge of the map, you could get there with both dropships intact, and complete the level easily.
Hah good luck. Sure those first few stages are easy, but just wait till you have a real full blown war going on in those final stages. But hey, if you do manage to take them on, I'll have a challenge ready for you... A challenge known as Razorclaw X's Vision of the Future series
yes i'd love to see starcraft runs!

Can anyone tell me where to find demos of multiplayer games with the top players? I'd like to see that too Smiley

Go for it marsh!

And don't you touch the audio comment, it raises the entertainment value by factor 10.... remember that gradius video?
(as long as the average international speaker understands you, otherwise you have to sub it ;))

Oh and... I hope you don't have a hard keystroke, people frequently complain to me they'd hear nothing else than my typing ingame.

OT: Muffin? A Meg in your sig? Don't you think it's possible with a little less? There're 56k users on this board and you don't seem to need that gif at gamewinners.com...

Nah, I googled for Nethologica... It's amazing what you can find out about people by googling. (Which is scary in itself, but I'm geek, I'm allowed to be paranoid.)
Are you gonna do every campaign or just some? and is it the PC version or the 64 version?

I would love to see speed demos of the single-player missions in Starcraft and Brood War. I'm sure there are lots of neat tricks like the ones that have already been mentioned in this thread. I know of at least one other; the Brood War Terran mission where you start with some buildings floating, you can finish that in like 2 minutes or something.

Edit: oh, and doesn't Starcraft (and Brood War) have a replay feature now? I know it's there in multiplayer, but I'm not sure about the single-player missions. If it does work, you can just distribute the replay files. Actually, I don't really care what format it is in as long as the video quality is good.

Are you joking? The N64 version's controls are worse than everything and anything... And if you read the thread, you'd probably know...

And I would like to see the strats used...
that would be very nice, i was playing SC:BW for like 4 year and i done the mission a lot of time.

i woudl really liek to see a speed run trow it and help if i can Tongue

Connor: This is another good site: http://www.teamliquid.net/replay

I had some others but they seemingly died and/or moved since I last visited...I haven't played SC that seriously in awhile.

DarShadow: PC, of course, that's why I'm using Camtasia...I honestly can't even imagine how the controls would work for the N64...it must be so slow and awkward.

Does anyone have some more shortcuts/tricks they can think of? I haven't really dived back into the game yet...the levels I've played most so far are Countdown and Search for the Uraj (BW Protoss missions).

For Countdown you start with like 1000 minerals so I get gas in lower ASAP and double nexus at top and pump probes for that huge mineral field and then I get 5-6 gates, get goon range, shields (!), then pump about a dozen goons and then go start the attack at the temple...as soon as I have about 24 goons and everything around the temple is dead (bait the lurkers without obs to kill them, dumb computers...) I send the two heros and make a huge field of cannons and pray for the next 15 minutes...use the remaining goons to kill guards, hope my main lasts long enough to keep supply cannons that fall.

I can get around 18:30 doing this.

As for the Uraj crystal, I take out the missiles/CC fast so Kerrigan/probes come, then double Nexii + one pylon and wait, wait, wait...then rush to shuttle. Shuttle = Kerrigan, reaver, one zealot. Then I fly it around the level and use the reaver to take out some key turrets + a bunker and the zeal + kerrigan's storm takes out a tank and then I land right on the exit beacon. Not sure of time, need to do it more...

just to know ur run mor e?

wich mission u wanna do ??

all sc and bw ? or one in particular ?

where do u start ?
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I've often thought that a video with a "commentary track" would be awesome.  With Starcraft, I think most of what you're doing would be awesome, but some of the other games, like the metroid series and such, could really use a commentator explaining things as they happen.  The explanatory text that goes along with those videos is necessary for enjoyment...

But smartass comments would work too. And hearing your keyboard and mouse clicks will be interesting, I think.

I'll definitely download it.  Planning on doing a TSA and releasing the segments as you make them?

I have a problem. If I start capturing during a briefing, during one of the pretty pictures (i.e. a planet, landscape...) or during the mission select screen then all the colors will be screwed up for the rest of the clip, even if I go into the 'normal' game. If I start capturing during the game, though, then everything will turn out fine.

Mkt2015: Well, these effects don't show up as I play...only in the Camtasia movies afterwards. Does your advice still apply, though?
