So i got my fingers on 'Stalker Clear Sky' and already began to look for speedrun abilities in the game

------
edit
------
i wont run the game because of lack of realism when it comes to firing weapons onto enemies, one example:
i hit a bandit 8 times including 3 times with the PMm in the head and he survives.
It cant be that someone receives damage from 9x18mm ammo which renders someone unable to fight, and he is still running around talking weird russian crap and still shooting me - no this game sucks but we can still keep discussing ...
--------

I didnt try to record any scenes, altough my old machine handles Stalker STCS pretty good:
AMD Athlon 64 3700+ (So939)
2GB DDR PC3200
nVIDIA GF7600 256MB
500GB Samsung S-ATA HDD
running Windows XP
i can play in 1024x768 and use dynamic lightning all over the place, to reduce loading times i set texture quality to 2.

First i have played the 1.5.00 Version which ran quite stable, 1 Crash from the beginning 'til the end (i guess it was one of the bad endings because i didnt manage to kill strelok).
Then i patched up on 1.5.03, but this version seems to crash often plus some strings which should be clear language is only internal variable names. They have seem to messed up the translation...
Ill test 1.5.04 soon as i have more time.

i must say Stalker STCS is a very hard game, even on easiest skill level.

for example: there are some kind of "Arenas" where endless new enemies spawn (inside Limansk at 75%) - you only have to run thru', this is not always so easy.

general notes:
- if you can collect enough money you can pay people who quickly "teleport" you to your next target (next level etc.)
- later in the game, where you have to follow "Fang" into a cellar you lose all money and stuff, so first place it in the chest nearby to have it back then.
- improving own weapons is very expensive, dont waste any time repairing or improving stuff, just replace it with the plenty weapons your enemies drop after death
the only thing you may repair is some armor!
- if you let the bandits steal all your goods in the trashyard they may be neutral against you (they dont shoot you, untested!)

The first part is quite easy, you gotta speak to some people, then you got your first task: swamp

on the second part you gonna help some lone guy on his small tower to defend the area. To get there you have to dodge some anomalies and the partially radioactive water which quite slows you down even if only your footprints touch it partially.
when you reach him you quickly climb the ladder and soon another emission started which knocks your character out - again.

third part:
you find yourself back again in the clear sky base, where you have started your little adventure. Talk a bit here and there etc..

part IV: they send you back to the swamp, now you have to kick some bandit - asses to strenghten the presence of your buddies in the swamp. Those bandits can be very annoying and if you dont have enough medkits and bandages you'll die very quickly, so wiping out their pockets/backpacks is very very useful. Err yeah and some energydrinks would be useful too because your character tends to run out of stamina quickly plus energydrinks dont fill completely up your energybar. but dont worry, that stuff is lying around everywhere.
Your time for this part depends highly on your computer controlled team mates, so dont expect low times here until you found a bug to abuse.

Part V: you find yourself "back" in 'Kordon' next to the 'ol nest-o-militair guys they instantly shoot you on sight with a powerful machinegun, so run like hell and use every cover you can find. your target is the old Sidorovitsch guy in the underground you have to talk to.

thats it for now, more maybe in discussion.

So what do you think about speedrun ability in Stalker STCS.
Thread title:
Stalker!
sadly you cant run through the game anymore

Okay i found an interesting bug in "red forest" where you can skip nearly the whole red forest quest and everything behind it until limansk city
i recorded with fraps @ 800x600 (2:1 reduction)

In this video i have used a modified actor.ltx file to modify my jump abilities and run speed, just for testing issues.
http://77.37.11.207/media/Stalker_Limansk_Bridge_bug_xvidmpeg4.avi

so if you can somehow make it onto the other side (the bandits wont attack you, at least they didnt to me until i shot them xD)
my guess is some grenade jump or let yourself boost by some mutant
(sometimes mutants hit me and i fly high into the air)
this will cut off like 1h - 2h play time
Seems like that except the first part, you can just run through the levels like in SoCh. I'm in Red Forrest though. I wonder if it's possible to get from Yantar to Red Forrest without doing the valve quest, but probably not.

I changed the URL, so the video is a working link now :f
I dont think you can just walk thru Yantar because the game may block the exit with a warning: "PSI emission too high" or something
like in the swamps when you try to exit them you get the warning that you need someone who knows the place... funny :p

------------
aah forget it, i dont run this game because of the overpowered enemies...
for example:
i riddled a bandit full of holes with 8 bullets out of the PMm includinc 3 in the head and he survives. And iam playing on 1st difficulty..
it cant be that these enemies take extreme much damage... forget the run this game sucks when it comes to realism.
I agree, Clear Sky is much more restricted than Shadows of Chernobyl. Everytime you could go around sth, there is either fence, massive radiation or anomalies.

And Limansk wins the award for the worst level of the year. Unless a shortcut is found, it will be really hard to pass through construction site without dying. And that invincible sniper at the end is also pretty hard. I think I've used like 50 quickloads in order to pass that area Smiley It's funny cause I wasn't able to get a better suit, there just isn't any to find like in SoCh and buying one when everything can be sold for just a couple rubles wasn't an option since merchants can be found only at the beginning.
unemployed Dragon
at first i have tried to kill that sniper with everything i found around... like the grenade launcher in the machinegun nest or the vivintar until i found out this was a scripted pawn. The same goes to vulnerable snipers on other rooftops, they just respawn..
It's not that you have much room for other routes or complete the quest in other ways.
well ... gentlemen!
Stalker!
you can skip jantar but the ambush in the red forest dont happen because the stalker dont spawn

Actually, I think I read somewhere that at lower difficulties, less damage is dealt. Not only to you, but also to your enemies. Try turning the difficulty up a notch or two, and you will see that headshots (and any other hits) deal more damage, and will insta-kill anyone unless overly armored. I'm playing at "veteran", and kill people by headshotting them all the time (1 shot, 1 kill).

edit: Oh and why question the realism? I mean, you're surrounded by mutant dogs, zombie stalkers, anomolies, artifacts.... xD
I played it on master and found it to be a very frustrating experience
Everything that was bad in SoC was worse in CS
Weapons are even more inaccurate
Weapons jam even more often
Weapons degrade even faster
Enemies are even deadlier (now with pinpoint accurate grenades)
Enemies take even more damage before dying ... no 1 shot kills against exo-suit enemies ... now 3-5 headshots with an assault rifle are needed
Bleeding got worse
Radiation got worse
Endurance seemed worse (no easy to acquire flash-artifacts anymore)
Levels got worse (either old ones or extremely restricted Limansk ... or the swamp ... well it's a swamp ... boring as that)

Maybe not everything is as bad as I perceived it ... I just couldnt stand it
Whenever you are about to have a little fun the game just kicks you in the balls with ridiculous deaths ... and crashes of course .. had to start all over 3 times before I could finish the game once

Erm sorry, that I don't really have anything to contribute regarding a speed run
... well, I doubt that enemies die faster on higher difficulty settings .... when I played it all enemies were indeed very hard to kill ...
Although most normal enemies can be killed with 1 or 2 headshots from an assault rifle most weapons are just too inaccurate to actually aim for the head
unemployed Dragon
lets just say Stalker Clear Sky is more a causal gamer game Cheesy
play a bit until you're frustrated and leave the game for 2 weeks :-)
i dont even have it installed on my new computer, i prefer Far Cry 2 over Stalker Clear Sky
guess why Cheesy

im wondering with what version you play the enemies are more accurate then in soc for example. generally cs is more like the promises for soc.
oh and while we are talking about soc, i think its time for a new run.
I started 2 games on the release version (1.5.00?)
Both times I reached a point where the game would always crash and could not continue

With version 1.5.07 I started another playthrough and was able to finish it....
Maybe it was just luck ... I recently loaded an old savegame in order to test the faction wars
And now I've once again reached a point where the game always crashes
I love SDA!
Odd. I remember offing the sniper at the end of Limansk with ease. It was the electrified water I spent a few dozen quickloads getting passed. I should note that I was using the 1.5.07 patch at the time, though. So maybe that had something to do with it. Or maybe the angle. I recall picking him off from the right side of the area, from the corner of the building with the steps leading upwards that has one Monolith guy taking cover behind.

i have'nt even installed this game on my new rig because its so `crappy´

Stalker!
I guess its time to give it a try.

recording already works fine (aka 60fps), even thought the engine is poorly optimized (same goes for the other Stalker games).
Cool! Did you find interesting shortcuts ?

I already have a full run completely routed out on Youtube. It's only lacking proper execution.

Base run (with some excess footage):

Improved Limansk segment:

Improved Hospital segment:

I originally routed this with/for Rayvex (who did the Call of Pripyat run) but he's extremely lazy so if you beat him to it, that's fine by me Grin

Do tell if you need anything explained, though the description should be good enough.

Touché Grin

Anyways, competition is always fun.
Could attempt the run too and see who ends up fastest :}

Also, on a different note:
People might not know but I've beaten my CoP run thats on SDA by over 20 minutes, search for it on youtube if you want to see :p

why not bringing the run on SDA instead? Smiley

The "Twilight Zone" (i.e. out-of-bounds area) has level changing triggers that you're normally not supposed to be able to access. In the swamps, they're located behind the hole in the fence to the east, and they can lead to either Cordon or Red Forest. Maybe other places too. Red Forest is the obvious place to go.

I started looking into the game again to see if I missed anything (and also to see if a single-segment route is plausible) and I already found something neat.

If you mash through the trader's dialogue when he gives you equipment, and talk to him again, you can get the equipment twice. That means 5 more bandages, 2 more medkits, and an extra knife that sells for 600 ru. I guess you wouldn't need any of those in a segmented run, but for SS it makes things a lot easier (especially because you can buy up to 10 energy drinks as well as all the anti-rads and food you want).

Also, found another weapon throw in the hospital, first door to the left after the cutscene. Plus, weapon teleporting, for which I've never found a use.
Stalker!
i never thought that the red forest can be ran in 8 sec

These are the times for the levels i have ran so far

one extra grenade jump.
Do you really think standing still to regenerate stamina is faster than simply spending some time walking instead of running? There's plenty areas where that's safe to do.
