Hey Everyone, just picked up this game again after years of not playing it and managed to get through it in a day. Hoping to plan a 100% speedrun, any tips or tricks would be appreciated
1) do the gamecube version. shorter loading screens and a lot of bug fixes from the ps2 one. 2) turn sparx tutorial off in the options menu as soon as you start the game 3) don't backtrack to dragonfly dojo. you can get on top of those ledges with baby dragon's kites on on your first visit, just play around with jumping a little bit 4) use swimming in the air glitches whenever you can, you can also get through the electric gate without using the electric breath by simply flaming the gate while charging through it 5) keep count of gems so you don't have to backtrack, ETD is probably the hardest spyro game to collect all gems just becase they're scattered all around the place 6) only battle ripto once, when you beat all the levels, unless you really need the sparx gem pointer ability
I really wanna see a 100% ETD run. No one has tried to do it to my knowledge.
I do not remember if they are random or not, but if not, remembering where all the gems are. Or take note of how much gems you should have at points in a level. And I agree with number 4. Swimming is much faster than running. (and you can skip things)
Like...if you need a specific breath in a level, you should go there, first (the level that gives the breath) ...if possible. (I am new and I haven't played this game in forever) Good luck. :3
Alright, as a result of a bunch of people doing a race of this category for the fun of it a few people have started taking the run seriously, myself included. The best run so far is 3:56:51 and that is not a good run by any means. Some notes: 1. Swim in air doesn't seem to be useful. As it makes gem collecting harder and the skips it provides seem pointless. 2. NTSC gamecube is the best to play on and not using a memory card is supposed to cut loads in half. 3. Levels should be done in close to the same order they are intended. There is room for discussion on this. 4. Due to the run being fairly new, skipping to ripto at the start of the run to get the sparx gem ability seems useful as it only takes 2 minutes or so. This will be removed when routing is more concrete. 5. I believe sub 3 is possible but I can't say for sure if we will see much faster.
