N64 + MM = :-)
Well, as much as I am proud to say it, I've been working on, and researching the best and fastest ways to do different parts of this game.  And it seems as though, there are no runs for it yet, despite that 4 years ago (from 2006) someone posted a topic about it but seems to have given up.  My girlfriend and I are major fans of the game.  She first played through it a lot as I watched.  But I quickly caught up to her in skill.

I'm planning to do a single segment, and my goal is to get it down to 3.5 3 hours.  I'll have you know, I've already successfully played all the way through the game from start to finish (getting 75 spatulas and defeating the final boss), and managed to beat it under 4 hours.  My estimated time, considering I paused only once to eat a 10-20 minute dinner, was 3:40 (h:mm).  I have now played it, starting precisely at noon and ending the game at 2:58 which brings my real time down to 2:58 (obviously). This is due in large part to speed developments at Goo Lagoon, Rock bottom, the Mermalair, and DT Bikini Bottom.  I've also been getting faster and easier socks in the beginning of the game, allowing me to rush even more of the game.

I need some help with recording though.  I'm working on saving up enough for a split signal to record it to a computer.  But, I would like to know if there is a certain program I should use.  I have both Mac and PC, so compatibility should not be a problem.  If it's alright, I would like to show some details I've gathered.

spatulas
8 from Bikini Bottom
8 from Jellyfish fields
8 from Goo Lagoon
5 from DT Bikini Bottom (skipping "End of the Road" and the two at the Sea Needle)
8 from Rock Bottom
3 from Kelp forest
7 from Mermalair (skipping the rolling ball room)
6 from Spongebob's dream (skipping squidward and half of Sandy's Dream)
8 from Sand Mountain

1 from Posidome and 1 from Industrial park.

4 from Giving socks to Patrick
8 from Giving shiny objects to Mr. Krabs

Shiny Objects
39,500 from Mr. Krabs
This can easily be done with a death abuse, and a Super-Ultra-Mega-Monster combo that gives me 490 shiny objects from the top of the sand castle at Goo Lagoon.  It only takes 12 seconds per, and a Ham-mer robot on the way gives me 25 shiny object boost.  Also, new research (I mean I got smarter) has allowed me to get bubble bowl before Goo Lagoon, which will help me get more shiny objects, but I'm too lazy (secretive) to share how.

Some of you will argue that this takes just about 15 minutes to get to the full amount.  However, that compares with the average 15-20 minutes I'll spend in an area getting all 8 spatulas.  I will also be able to salvage a little more, and use extra to pay off clams. My safe number so far is 46,000, with new consideration for robots I cannot skip. This will allow me to rush through a great chunk of the game.  Compared to 24 minutes on Bikini bottom (my fastest time) that seems like a steal.

125 at the beginning of Jellyfish fields.
I'll do this mainly by concerning myself with easy tiki combos on my way between the first spatulas in Bikini bottom, which are Top of the Pineapple, Annoy Squidward, and Spongebob's closet.  I'm easily able to get to over 200 before I even reach it, but the 2,000 clam after it is where I might have trouble.  But right before it, I plan to attempt a Super-ultra-mega-monster combo (which I know is possible) which should give me a significant boost.  Still, I'll play it safe just to have shiny objects later on, but i'm not going out of my way for an insignificant amount.

Clams
These should be fairly easy as long as I make sure I'm getting plenty of combos.  But I'll spend a little extra time in DT Bikini Bottom for this because there is a clam relatively soon in Goo Lagoon, but very little robots before it.

OTHER
Rock Bottom: 0
Kelp Forest: 0
Mermalair: 2300
Sand Mountain: about 2300+1500+1500+1500
Spongebob's dream: around 1000+1000+1000
Goo Lagoon: 2200+2300

Bikini Bottom (What spatulas to get at what time).
Part 1 (the very beginning).
Obviously, the first one is going to be spongebob's closet.  Directly after I get to that is Top of the Pineapple.  Then Annoy squidward, which will also give me a sock.  Patrick will give me a sock as well while I do top of the pineapple.

Part 2 (after Posidome)
Now I need to do Ambush at the tree dome, which is the closest, then top of shady shoals, which should land me close to where I'm going after that.

Part 3 (after industrial park)
Only two more for here.  First one should be ambush at the Krusty Krab.  I will skip the sock in there because there are 30 different socks that are much easier and much faster to get.  Then I will do on top of the Chum bucket.

Part 4 (when I have 74 spatulas)
A wall jump in the bucket.  In the chum bucket, before you get inside the lab, there is a very quick spatula for wall jumping.  It's only fitting that this would be the last spatula since it's so close to the end of the game.

That's all I will reveal to you.

I have my recording equipment, so the only thing delaying this even further is the development of faster methods of different parts of this game.

Rookie DF reportin' f'dudy, sir.
Though I have no answer for the recording equipment problem (I honestly have no clue where I got mine and honestly doubt that it's the best out there) I want to say that I'll be keeping a close eye on/supporting this run. I for one love this game and have never really beaten it. But it's fun as heck.

Luck to you *bows* =D

I am still working on this, and have made several good finds cutting my time dramatically.  I am now getting 40 socks to utilize a skip in sandy's dream and save 2800 shiney objects.  I'll post more later (maybe, I would like to see more interest before I post).

UPDATE/EDIT:  This new skip not only saves me 2800 money, but saves me 42 seconds of slide time.  This doesn't include time for doing the first spatula in Sandy's Dream.  Since I'm getting many VERY quick socks in Sand mountain and rock bottom, this skip is very worth it.
Bane of the Sith
I too will be following this run.  Good luck!
I'd watch it Tongue Don't really have much to say that you haven't probably thought of, I remember being able to jump on practically everything and I think I found a few small breaks but really don't remember anything about the game. I'm still interested in seeing a run though.

Heck yes, I'm doing a lot of that.  This was a very big mistake in the programmer's part, which I plan to take full advantge of whereever I can.  I'm working on something for Jellyfish fields.  If I can make it fast enough, there will be some major fun there.

ps. I just updated the details in the first post.

Don't worry.  I haven't given up on this.  I've ran into some trouble.  I need recording equipment still, and now I need a new Playstation 2 controller.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I've made some really good time, and I promise I will not disappoint.

Once I have what I need, I'll be trying to get a (good) run recorded!
So how's the run going? I'm really looking forward to it.
THIS IS IMPORTANT
Respond to this if you're still doing this run.
I've tried the run myself and got about 2:30 on my first try, using a glitch that you might find useful
I'll tell you about it if you respond, don't feel like typing it all out on a dead thread Smiley
I'm interested in this glitch. What is it? Smiley

Just uploaded a video, this helped me grab a few spatulas early.
The key to running this fast though is to cut as many physical corners as possible.
Now that's a cool glitch. I really hope KT1JDDD is still working on this run. It will be awesome!
Actually, I think I might just attempt this run myself Cheesy
Go for it! I'm sure it'll be awesome. thumbsup

Warping to spatulas right after obtaining them using the glitch can result in skipping parts of levels.

I am very much not dead.  Yoshimaster, great find.  I've subbed 2:30 without the glitch, so this will make my run hell of fast.

My route is very much ready to be done.  My ONLY problem is the lack of recording equipment.  Any help would be appreciated.

Edit:  The second glitch wouldn't be useful to me since it requires skipping a fast sock.  I would need to find a different sock (potentially slower).  The first video may be more helpful.

My girlfriend, who know a hell of a lot more about spatula and sock placements is working on a 100% route.  So when we get equipment, we'll be doing single segment runs for any% and 100%.
Did you manage to find some good recording equipment? If you didn't, you could always record the run to a VCR or DVD recorder (like how Super Mario Sunshine 100% was recorded on several VHS tapes).

This is what I use
http://www.amazon.com/EasyCAP-DC60-Creator-Capture-High-quality/dp/B002H3BSCM
Very cheap, though it makes a slight lag in between the time you press the button and the time it happens. I'm still able to play just fine with it, but every microsecond counts in speedrunning.
That looks great and very affordable, yoshimaster. Otherwise, does my DVD recorder idea sound good to you, KT1JDDD? I can't wait to see your run!

I managed to find some excellent recording equipment.  I will test how it captures some very fast paced games like Super Smash Bros Melee.  My friend Luke will hopefully let me borrow a computer to capture it with.  All I need is an A/V amplifier and I will start recording my attempts, saving every attempt where I beat my fastest time.

Until then, I'll be testing out different stuff with Yoshimaster's Glitches.

Note:  I'm trying to cut as many loading screens as possible without sacrificing too much valuable time.  I don't want the speedrun to be riddles with "loading' screens.  Should it be, I will simply edit together a version without any of those and put it on my youtube channel.

Rest assured, this project hasn't been abandoned.

EDIT:  My girlfriend is currently working on the 100% run.  figuring it out is mostly trial and error, and a lot of practice on the slides.  Beside the point, she's doing it because she knows more of the game much better than I do.  She'll be doing a segmented run before she even attempts a single segment.
Great to hear! I'm so excited to see your run! I'll be looking forward to your next post here. Smiley
If done correctly...
I'm not sure if any of you know of this, but there's a new trick in this game that lets you walk in the OoB areas where Spongebob normally crawls, and I believe it doesn't matter what system the game is on for this trick.

(The trick is actually explained in the comments in this one)

Here's a video by the same person (itsPersonnal) that shows how to do the "Saving Game" glitch:
itsPersonnal and I have only tested it on the GameCube version, but I don't see why it wouldn't work for the PS2 version too.

To use the glitch, you first need to have a save slot that autosaves (obviously), use yoshimaster's glitch to disable the hand, then collect a spatula and die (likely over water). When SpongeBob respawns, immediately pause and take the taxi anywhere. Then the glitch will remain active until SpongeBob collects another spatula.

The game doesn't actually save until you collect your next spatula, so if you make a big mistake in a segmented run, you can always try the segment again from the last unglitched spatula (in the Jellyfish Fields case, it would be the start of the area for unfinished Top of the Hill).
