Next run officially planned. Currently practicing.
This I think would be a great game to speedrun. I don't think there is already a topic for this game, but I do remember it being suggested somewhere. I think that either me or someone else should do an any% speedrun, segmented, on easy difficulty. The reason why I don't think that it should be done on Kid Mode (very easy) is because the in-game cutscenes are not skipable in that difficulty. Stradegies for boses may take a while to plan out due to the inconsistant ways of defeating them.

Anyone interested?
Thread title:
Ohh, yeah. Go for it. I love that game. Should be fun.
Yeah, I'm interested in seeing this. I used to love this game back in the day. Go for it~!
Waiting hurts my soul...
I don't think I've played this game, but I'm interested in seeing it any way. Smiley
Why so serious?
I liked this game alot back in the day. I remember it was the first game I could beat in one sitting. I used to be able to get through it in less than an hour! Grin

Hijacking this thread.

Bonesaw577 and Firecrotch219 have been playing around with this game and managed to find some useful clips. Bonesaw is actively running it at the moment, and below is his personal best.

Below are some additional references

Not sure if Firecrotch219 plans to do full game runs. I'm running the PC version, which is faster not only in loading, but in gameplay. Spider-Man moves much faster on PC.

EDIT: Also Joshkaz has a run of this game.

EDIT #2: Joshkaz's run (N64)
Remember your mantra.
I have always had a feeling this game would be glitchy as hell. I would be interested in getting into it.

I have a N64 version, which is probably faster than PS1 with loading times considered. What I am wondering is what gameplay and engine differences exist between the two.
MATHEMATICS
Yeah, this game looks insanely breakable.

Bonesaw's video says "former WR". Can you point us to the current WR?

I've had the privilege of playing all 3 versions and it feels like N64 and PC definitely feel faster, both in terms of loading and gameplay. The main thing we need to look at is jumping, because jumping is the key to quick boss fights and web-swinging reponse for good jumps.

And @Mathematics, I updated the video to his (Bonesaw's) latest run.

I'm afraid that the PC version doesn't contain the OOB clips as in the console versions. I've been working at it for a few days with no luck. The PC port did come after the console versions, so there's a chance there could be version differences.

Turns out only one clip works from the console version, and that is the sewer gate clip. The other sewer clip works, but the floor above the door is actually solid. ._.

I'm also trying to figure out exactly what a 100% run of this game would include. Bonesaw has already completed what he called an "All Comic Covers" speedrun, which is self-explanatory. The problem with "100%" is that you have to beat the game (Escape Monster Ock) multiple times on different difficulty levels (or just set the full-game run to hard), plus do training levels. To make matters worse, the only way to add Sub-Mariner to character viewer is by using a cheat code. Speaking of cheat codes, there are many costumes that are only unlockable via cheat codes as well.

I like getting all comic covers (32 in all) and completing a new game for 100% definition, ignoring all other unlockables in the definition.

I also have a different idea for 100%:

All Comic Book Covers (32)
New Game completion
All enemies defeated (with the exception of):
SUBWAY
STOP THE PRESSES
BUGLE'S BASEMENT
WATERFRONT WAREHOUSE
STOPPING THE FOG

Let me know what you think. What do you think 100% is in this game?
MATHEMATICS
I think 100% should just be everything that you don't need cheat codes for. Yes, it will be a long run, but there are people running GTA and Red Dead Redemption single-segment, runs that take like 5 hours to complete, so that is not a valid concern. We also have a 13 hour speedrun on SDA, so constraining the 100% definition just because it's "too long" is not a valid concern.
Heh, amateurs...
It's not that 100% is too long, it just seemed rather awkward and tedious.

Well, through thick and thin, its official. N64 times cannot be beat. Closest Bonesaw and I have came is 42:xx. If you didn't see Josh's run above, here it is again:

New stuff:

Missile Attack Zipline Zones http://www.twitch.tv/p1ston/c/2302916 - There's a zip zone at the very beginning of Scale The Girders that for some reason Bonesaw and I didn't know about.
Sewer Cavern Cuts http://www.twitch.tv/p1ston/c/2302899

After I finally sub 42 on Easy, I'm moving on to Normal difficulty runs. It will be interesting to see if Normal can be done faster than 45 minutes in a single segment.

The restart warp I didn't know about. The Pipe stuff I did, but I couldn't do it consistent enough because Spider-Man is picky on when he wants to live.

Also, have any of the Spider-man runners ever beat doctor octopus in one loop?
Heh, amateurs...
I have one-cycled Doc Ock once. Once. I have no idea how I did it either. I'll try and see if I can replicate it again.

Aside from Target mode, the game only recognizes two inputs at once. Most of the time when you die, its because you were rolling Up+Left+Swing or Up+Right+Swing, or the game simply drops your inputs all together.
Heh, amateurs...
Finally subbed 42 on Easy. For some reason I can't PB in this stupid game without dieing. This time I died on Missile Attack, which I've only died in once all time.
Heh, amateurs...
Got a 40:28 with 2 deaths last night. Feels like Mysterio has a perfect cycle on Easy. I've been able to kill him before the wheels spawn without any grabs and minimal laser hits. Sub 35 on N64 should be a breeze at this rate.

I've been trying 'Normal' difficulty runs as well. Web usage is a major obstacle. It may sound idiotic, but death abusing before boss fights could save a lot of time. By default, you start with 7 web cartridges on Normal. Killing Venom without web balls is time consuming and dangerous. Without web balls, you have to use the killing blow jumps, which are extremely risky if you don't get the landing animation skip. Combine that with the random spawns in Venom II and you've got yourself a very difficult category.
I wouldn't see how it is possible for a PlayStation or PS2 to beat an N64 in load times ever. Sad

Solid state media wins.

Cartridge master race!
Heh, amateurs...
Its interesting, three different systems all with distinct differences. Who knows what Dreamcast version will bring. At least this will make writing for the Knowledge Base a challenge.
Thanks for reading my personal text.
I'm glad there's finally progress on a Speedrun of this game! I started a thread for the N64 version a while ago with some WIPs and a speedrun, there wasn't much interest so I left it alone, now I'm seeing actual runs of this game and skips that I didn't even know about, It's great! I have a run here:
The quality sucks but I couldn't find my capture card at the time, the run was timed off of the individual levels and not real time, so it's probably closer to 43-44 mins. I figured out the Rhino strat myself (10:30 mark), I don't know if it's faster or not but I haven't seen it used and I kill him quickly with it. Best of luck and can't wait to finally see a run of this game
King Wabasami
Didn't know you were on SDA. I stole most of my stuff from your WIP videos.
King Wabasami
Probably a good Idea to just die at the start of the Chopper chase after Scorpion.

You won't have to go out of your way to grab cartridges for Rhino, and this is the only part in the game where you're probably dying for cartridges.
