I am seriously disappointed and confused as to what G4 is trying to air from 12 am to 11:59 pm.

But...when they air clips of games in the shows, I don't think that that gets them in any trouble.  We're talking about (hopefully) free publicity, and the only person who turns that down is George Lucas.  By the same token I doubt speed runs are in trouble.  I don't know what the rules are concerning airing clips of speed runs of games since it sounds all convoluted to me.

I certainly don't want them showing any runs that I might do (which could easily be none).  I just don't like them.  I'm insulted just watching that channel.

I don't even have G4 as a TV channel.

Crap, crap, crap, it's all crap; G4 is crap, and crap is crap.

Well, it's either that or your only other alternative: A half-hour show, aired twice daily on TechTV. Otherwise you'll have to accept "crap crap crap" as your only Video Gaming focused televised media. =\
I prefer nothing to bullshit.

What show is that?  I was under the impression that G4 took everything good off of TechTV and fucked it up.  The only show there that does not make me cry for half an hour is "Judgement Day" and even I wouldn't call it great.  But, at least they try to find bad things and good things in every game, at least as far as I've seen.  G4, and gaming magazines, and anything else that's not the the game, is a total suck-up.  Of course, here we have people playing the heck out of games that sometimes they don't like all that much...but everybody else just REFUSES to find fault in their favorite games.

That's not even my problem with G4.  I mean, it could very likely be funnier than a gaming magazine.  But the people there treat you like you're a dumbass (like a lot of games these days.  C'mon KoRL, I'll find what I have to do some day) and basically tell you "you will be attracted by the promise of a channel catering to your favorite hobby (like the golf channel) but keep watching not because it's any good at all, but because we have secretly placed dweebs like you next to extremely attractive females.  Showing that you, too may have a shot at the next Morgan Webb.  you freaking wish.  Thank you for watching."

Indeed.

If people watch X-play because of Morgan Web, I can suggest better alternatives. I watch X-play, because they try to kick the ass of every game they review. I'd rather look for negatives than positives when shopping for a game.

It's just a preference, but I prefer G4 to the 24 hour tech help it once was. Except those auto shows. I don't understand them.

We've got to do something about these fucking assholes.

Oh captain, my captain.

For everyone new to this resurrected topic, here's the basic gist. We talked about how cool it would be to see runs on tv. Then Cinematech aired some runs, but didn't give credit to anyone, not the runners or the website. So now we're pissed at them for doing that.
I registered and I'm going to bookmark that page.  I'll try to keep it up (I hope everyone else does too)
dinosaur from the past
Is there any special reason as to why the renewed intrest in yelling at them (i.e, they took someone else's run)?

Read the thread I link to.
They just aired his run in early November.
And today I was told they aried various GoldenEye single level runs by Wouter.

Oh and I avoided posting in the topic because I'm too steamed. Best for people to stay rational, and I am not.
dinosaur from the past
Okay. I didn't read the topic because I was worried that it'd be full of people pissed as you posting and not staying rational. Good to see we're still better than that.
A Crab
There, posted.

On a side note, I finally got to see the episode with my run in it.  I simply cannot believe they cut just seconds before the slave lightning boost out of the test chamber, the best trick in the run (IMO).

King of hearts
I know this has been said many times before and much better than this post.  But this is wrong.

The least we could do is post as much as we can in that topic and give it a lot of attention to let ourselves be heard.  Just one post from anyone concerned about this would be a tremendous help.

Done.  Does Wouter know that he's been "befuddled"?

I'm just curious, but does this website have a disclaimer about giving credit to those who have their runs up here?  Like "unless asked by the author, the run cannot be shown for comercial purposes"?

Are they violating any legal laws if they show it without giving credit.  Are these runs "public domain?"

I'm sorry if you've already discussed it in this thread, but it's just too long to read again.

I decided to look for myself, and there is no mention of 'public domain' at all.  However, all I found that even hinted at a disclaimer was this blurb on the submissions page (slightly before the 'contacting Radix' part):

You can also do anything else you want with your run, as of course you remain the owner and creator.

The part I bolded isn't that way on the original page, I just did that for emphasis.  If I missed any disclaimer, someone is to speak up.

Anyway, my concern is that I'm going to ramble and make everyone that's posting in that thread look like real idiots - thus, unless in the future they copy a run that I did, I shall refrain from posting there.

In nearly every country of the world, something is copyright by the creator by default, even if they don't say (C) my name.
Jack of all Trades
I know jack about copyright law but I have the feeling that a "videogame speedrun" doesn't qualify as a creative work, and if it does, I'm not sure if posting about it on their forums is the best way to bring the topic up -- unless they're really nice, of course.

I think we should start putting our names on the speedruns we do. That way people won't immediately claim it belongs to them. Of course that would call for more work >_<!

But it may be beneficial, just so stuff like this doesn't happen. I mean in real life you can kick someone in the nuts for saying they did your run, but getting it stolen over the internet....? I dunno, we could spam them.... @_@;

Thats a good idea, except they might edit the name or blur it just to screw ya.

Yeah, I looked for a good 5 minutes, and couldn't find anything else.  Putting a watermark on the speedrun (our name) is probably a bad idea.  It makes the run look ugly, and probably creates more work for the encoder (Nate).

Should we make this issue more clear on the rules page?  That's the place I first looked for a disclaimer, but didn't get much luck?
I just noticed that the G4 admin (or someone) has posted in that thread saying they will credit the makers of the runs they show now.
