Yeah, me too. I had them verified, like, a month (+) ago, so they should've been up by now... But the queue is long of course.

Hmm, that's actually a little faster than chillout's run... any chance that you'll post some videos?
yeah.. I can try to make a little vid for you...
Btw, is it legal to speedjump in this game?

chillout used speedjumping in the pred run, it's legal... but how can you speedjump with the marine?
Speed-jumping with marine. o_O please upload video.

I think you should be able to beat my time.
My total time was for marine was about 40:31
It was done in 8 segments.

In Unwelcome Guest i had the time about 10:33 i think.

Good luck running.

Seconded. Smiley

I really want to see the speed-jumping before I'll start my marine run. But it will take a while before I can start the run. I need a new *guess what*.

I'm thinking of getting a computer from this swedish site: http://www.karl-johan.se/butik/default.asp (the one at the bottom of the page), but I don't know much about computers, so I don't know if it's worth 9000 sek (1300$). Any thoughts?

Edit: Oops, link doesn't work, well, this is what it says:

SA-3500SLI
Socket 939
3500+
2GB RAM
Sli GF6600 (2 video cards/256MB)
200GB HD
DVD/RW DL
Keyboard/mouse/speakers 2.1

I hope it's not too off-topic. Wink
a tad offtopic ya

well, it looks great to me. but i know very little about computers.
evil does it

If I were to buy a new computer, wich of course I want to, I would not by the one you mentioned. Just not good enough.
The price looks fair tho, but this is what you should by if you have the money that is..

64 X2 4200+ Dual Core
ATI XT1900XTX (one card is enough)
2X Maxtor DiamondMax Plus10 250GB 16MB cache SATA-II
Still alive...
Or get a X1800 XT (or an "All In Wonder" for capturing stuff), it should be fast enough for all your needs.
I would only get a X1900XTX in combo with a FX-60, but thats damn expensive.

And I would get a WesternDigital Raptor HDD. They are fast as shit. On the other hand they are also not cheap.

But I would no way advise you to get a SLI/Crossfire system! They aren't fast enough at the moment.

Okay, thank you guys, now I know what I should be looking for. Wink

Lets get back on topic now.
TIOLET!
Since it seems that mine and Chillout's runs somehow disappeared after the verification I will upload my runs again to Filefront and YSI (once the upload of my improved Q4 run is done, this will take some time so you might have to wait till next weekend), so those who want to see them can actually see them. I am kind enough to upload all qualities (LQ, NQ and H.264) so feel free to choose. I have also included the original comments file intended for SDA without any edits in each .zip-file. The ordinary alien run is the one called speedrun1 and predalien is speedrun2.

I have timed the runs more precisely, excluding the fading of cutscenes, saving and loading screen. I excluded the saving because for some reason it takes longer to gain access to the menu (about 3 seconds before the ESC button is "activated") when you record at 30 fps, which I did, normally it doesn't take that long. And I excluded the fading cutscenes because the fading take slightly longer when you record with Fraps at 30 fps. As you might remember I explained way back when I was doing this run that the frame rate regulates a lot of stuff in this game, including the fading of certain cutscenes, and therefore I don't think they should be added in the timing. The timing might be off with around 2-3 seconds.

The time for the Alien run is 18:40.26 +/- 2-3 seconds. A nice surprise since I thought it would be 19:xx like 4 months ago. The most scary thing is that there is only like 3-4 seconds of mistakes in the entire run, unless some new crazy trick is discovered I would say this is as fast the run of the Alien campaign will get on normal difficulty.

The time for the Predalien run ended at 6:16.8 +/- 2-3 seconds. This was somewhat what I expected for this run.

Links will be added later.

It's almost as if your runs disappeared...

But I bet it's one of those 3 that needs to be timed:

The problem is that chillout and I made a total of 6 runs, not 3. Maybe Radix see them as 3 or something, I don't know.

Edit: Some zips are now up, I uploaded LQ and NQ for both runs. You will have to wait a little for the H.264 version because they are a little bigger, and I don't want to ruin the Q4 upload too much.

Links removed because FF managed to delete all the files or replace them with someone elses.

Yeah, that's what I think.

I wonder where this freebird guy went... I would really like to see those Marine-speedjumps.

Edit: I'll wait for those H.264 videos, they will be part of my speedrun collection. Grin

The NQ videos are not that bad, I polished them before submitting. The LQ videos are a mess though Grin

[Mega-bump]

At last I've got myself a decent computer, which means that I can finally speedrun AvP2. I'm going to try to beat chillout's marine run at normal difficulty, in fact, I have already recorded the first three segments and uploaded MQ videos to filefront:

http://hosted.filefront.com/YautjaElder/2065808

Any feedback on those would be much appreciated. I could've uploaded HQ videos, but I have the feeling that most people wont be able to play them anyway, so I didn't.

Segment 1 was probably 8-10 seconds faster than chillouts run. This was achieved through general optimization and a new version of chillouts shortcut I discovered. It requires very precise timing of your jumps and was very hard to do, it went almost perfectly in this segment, however.

Segment 2, about 1.5 seconds faster than chillout. Watching this segment, it feels like there's more than 1.5 seconds shaved off here, but for some reason there isn't. But time saved is time saved I guess.

Segment 3, approx. 6 seconds shaved off through general optimization.

I guess I'm supposed to look at this. I'll take a look when I can find some time for it, I'm very busy the following weeks though.

Only if you want to, of course. Wink

I've noticed that at least some people have downloaded the files from FF, so I guess there's some interest.

I guess it's time to pull out another project from my bag of "various secret stuff". Since I'm writing it in this thread it's quite obvious what it's going to be, AvP2 runs of course.

The goal is to improve my old Alien and Predalien runs (the only 2 campaigns I enjoy speedrunning), and maybe add some SS runs as well for those. I have no idea what I'll be able to do in the Predalien campaign, because that thing is so damn short already.
Speed is the key.
Glad to hear that, looking forward to seeing it. Cheesy

Just don't go insane trying to improve Vengeance. Wink

nice, but I still can't believe you have to wait those scientists in AvP2 as Alien :p.

TIOLET!
Well, back when I was running it in 2005-2006 I had a shitload of problems with a lot of tricks in this game, nothing would work properly.

Many people have managed to get through the first level without waiting for the scientists, but whenever I try it I get killed by the guards in less than a second and there is nothing I can do about it. Other tricks in that level involve going straight through the steam and the lightning in the vents, works for most people but I get killed instantly when I touch it.

So this time I'm not going to patch the game and record at 60 fps, because everything in this game is based on the frame rate you play with. And that's of course a plain stupid game design.
Speed is the key.

I haven't really done a lot of running as of late, but at least there is one more part available for download. The first and longest level is now complete. Smiley

I should also mention that the problem with disk space applies to this run as well. So I can't work on this run either until the Area 51 run is up, don't expect any progress on this run for a while.

Yautja: I hope you run the game unpatched. If you do so there is a huge possible shortcut in the pod level's lab part where you are supposed to pick up the disc and hacking device. It is possible to get to the elevator without doing any of the objectives, but I don't know if you'll be able to exit the level. Worth checking out at least.
