Speedrun Video Tutorials for the KB

I've been doing a lot of speedrunning and realized my knowledge of games could help out a lot of people that want to learn the game. I've seen how Heidrage did his super contra tutorial and I really like the format. Instead of putting entire tutorial in one video he did them in multiple ones so as the reasoning behind everything was able to be explained in detail.

I'd really love to put beginner tutorials on game pages to really help out the KB and I'm sure other people are working on them too. Even though all pages will have text detailing strats a video will also be quite helpful.

Right now the video tutorials I plan on doing are Mega Man X 100%, Mega Man X3 any%, and Mega Man X3 100% I'd really love it if more people post in this thread about what beginner tutorials they are doing so a list can be made for organizations sake and so others know tutorials are in the making. Who knows maybe one day someone learns a lot from these tutorials and is able to attend future SDA marathons and help out a lot.

I wouldn't say that only a really good runner can write a good beginner's tutorial. Start with a basic structure (write it out in notepad or something, think high school paper outlines) to get the details fleshed out, then fill in the fine details. Once that's done you just have to put it on the KB. Honestly the hardest part isn't writing out the strategies and detailing the tricks, it's coding it properly in wiki format so that it comes out the way you want. The good news is there are a bunch of people here that can help you with that part. Get the info ready and we can help you with the rest.

And I'm still sticking to what I said before: you don't have to be the best at a game to make a good beginner's tutorial. Simply flesh out beforehand what is done in a run and why, go into as much detail as you want (basically anything that matters down to the tiniest details is always good) then record the video. Setting up an outline in Notepad really helps here (trust me, I've done tut videos before, outlines are key).

I've done a video tutorial for Dust: An Elysian Tail, and I strongly agree with HonorableJay that outlines are key. I also agree that video tutorials are insanely helpful. There's been a notable surge in Dust speedrunning since I recorded the tutorial. (I'm not arrogant enough to think I'm solely responsible for that, but I know at least a few people have mentioned that my tutorial helped them get started running Dust.)

This may be a dumb question already answered, but what's the markup for embedding a Twitch highlight? I really need to put up the Legend of Zelda tutorial by Darkwing Duck.

I don't think you can at the moment. EmbedVideo doesn't support it. Somebody would have to write a MediaWiki extension for it.
