In lieu of the ever-approaching SDA 2.0 I've set up a small and no-doubt bugridden subsite that lets anybody add links to finished or in-progress speedruns. It's searchable and quite simple to navigate, but relatively structured. I set it up for my own use to remind myself of runs that I should check regularly, but I've opened it up for public use, so I thought I should 'advertise' it.

Find it here.

I've added some finished speedruns to the database. Feel free to contribute. The only slightly esoteric part of the site is my 'Game ID' naming convention. If I hate something you pick enough I'll change it myself, anyway. Smiley

Feature requests are fine, comments are okay.

Are we supposed to copy/paste the game description into the comments section of the form?

Nah, the comments section is very unimportant.

Edit: Uh, whoever just started adding the Abe's Oddysee games etc. to it, when it says "please wait... being updated" in the run's information, it means it's waiting for you to add a run url to it. Click 'add url' and give it the appropriate information.

I guess I'll change that message to make it more descriptive. 'no links yet' maybe
The nature of the development of 'sda two point oh' makes it seem like any question I ask will be none of my business, but I just really want an idea of how far down the new site design will be succumbing to the archetypal web2.0 ethos.  And then of course I can apply undue cynicism as necessary  Smiley

And though I know DJGrenola (was it him? one of those shadowy demi-mods anyways) is not one for suggestions, my specific questions all relate to in what capacity the new main site (apart from the forum) will handle obsoleted, in progress, and merely requested runs.
I would hope that an upgraded SDA would have very few layout changes. Perhaps putting the search funtion directly on the front page. An improved search function would be the most important aspect, allowing you to search by types of runs, or even by runner in addition to the existing sort function. The most important function of the site is being able to find the run you want. That should be front an center, and any redesign should recognize that. I do not think that the site should adopt an image-heavy bandwidth hog layout.

Just my two cents
