I know that TAS makers slow down games with emulators. But I've got to think that an emulator could speed up a game too ...
I wonder what is the fastest any person could beat SMB1 given the option to have the game play at any speed they want (without using savestates or bots).
(I think proof would be impossible without an observer actually witnessing the playing of the game).
