Hi guys, I was wondering if you knew anything about a site called speeddemosarchive.info (I'm not going to link directly to the site for obvious reasons)? Somebody has tried to include mention of the site on the Wikipedia article about SDA, twice. (First time, second time). First time it was removed by someone else, and second time it was removed by myself.

Basically, what I'm asking is this:

Firstly, do the SDA guys even know about the existence of the site? (It seems like a site that would require permission from SDA, as I don't think SDA is released on a free license)
Secondly, is the person's story an accurate account of events?

From what I can see as a follower of SDA for a few years, it doesn't seem like a particularly notable event even if it is true, and does have permission from the SDA guys, seeing as it seems to have just seven Google results, which is pretty much the site itself, a mirror of Wikipedia's article at the time that it included mention of the site, search engine junk, and the same content from Wikipedia added to Encyclopedia Dramatica (I know).

So yeah, apologies if I've created this thread in the wrong forum, or if it's a forbidden topic. Other than that, keep up the good work guys.

I've never seen the Wikipedia article for SDA until now. It seems kinda cobbled together and pedestrian (which is perfectly fine, it's what I would expect and honestly want), which is in total opposition to the speedrun article. Given how short it is, any Prot mention would have been even more out of place, so I guess that might have been funny to see.

Edit: Oh right, you included links, thanks. "social conflicts," nice. If Jesus H Christ had designed that CMS, we still would have declined it. Of course, Jesus wouldn't have tried to exploit us to give his homebrew CMS more references.

IMHO using *any* CMS for SDA is overkill and much more troublesome compared to creating a few custom-tailored PHP (or PL or whatever) scripts.

Nah, I get the feeling it's more a case of somebody desperately trying to seek acceptance by the interwebz community by (erroneously) claiming they're cooler than SDA's members and calling every one of us "sexless geeks." Still since we're all way too mature to be offended by elementary-school name calling, it's kind of a funny read... in a piteous sort of way. I would bet that's kind of the aim of the whole website anyway though so no harm no foul imo.

I found that site a couple days ago and disregarded it. His "fluke" comment was retarded too. That's like saying an olympic athlete that broke the world record on race day was just lucky, or it was a fluke. It's called practice and training.

Pfft. You guys have never seen encyclopedia dramatica before? Everything gets made fun of there and every page is completely preposterous and comedy-driven. Not many sites get their own page on it... i thought it was kinda funny. If you read other pages, you'll notice theres a general hatred towards just about everything. Seriously, getting pissed off at ED is like a celebrity getting pissed off during his friar's club roast. see also: butthurt

edit: And looking at his page on ED, I actually am pretty sure Protricity was being honest when he said he wrote half of it. Which doesn't change certain things he did here, or the fact that the decision was made not to use his services... just thought you should know, the guy does plenty of stuff over at ED. I think he wrote the SDA page (hell, I wouldn't be surprised if he wrote it before he posted here), and it looks like his writing style. And why the hell else would it contain the tidbit about the .info along with the exact month, on a site where every timespan is expressed as "over 100 years" or some other exaggerated approximation? Prot's a troll and I'm guessing the rest of ED could give half a sh*t about us altogether (which I don't mind).

Indeed. If only the SDA page was like that, like, you know, most of the other articles (links to articles, pics, memes or phrases, anything, really).
