My feelings on The Demon Rush
I know I said I would do this around November 15th, but the flu screws around with that.

Anyway, there are still games where who is running the game is a bit up in the air. If you don't want to resolve this publically then send me a PM, contact me on IRC, or on skype (same username as SDA).

DKC: Tropical Freeze: I'm still not 100% sure about having a race as a starter, though it might work in a game like this that is pretty easy to follow. Does Enkaybee still have the record? I know there are a lot of people who are still competitive

TASbot block: Is there anyone I should list other than DwangoAC? I feel like people should be given proper credit.

Crazy Taxi: I'm not really opposed to a race here, do both players play on the Dreamcast version?

Sonic Heroes: The only question is everyone good for the bid war?

Descent: As far as I know, SpootyBiscuit has the record and Justis hasn't been that active. Not really big on this being a race since the game is disorienting enough as is.

Little Samson: This is no longer a race because Xdragon can't attend.

Battletoads: My concern here is that I have seen jc583 practice more than TMR. I'm sure TMR can do this, but I just need to see some practice.

Gimmick!: I have not heard a single thing from CrescentEXE and last he was well behind cyghfer in terms of progress. Unless if I hear something saying otherwise within a week, I'm going to have to drop Crescent from this game.

Super Castlevania IV: Obviously Hanage, Joe_Damillio, and Furious Paul should be in the race, but the question is the fourth slot. I know Just Defend has been working hard on the game, but I don't think TMR could catch up at this point. Is there anyone I'm missing?

DKC2: I haven't been paying close attention to this game in the past month, but to my knowledge reflected, claude, and krauser all have really strong times. I'll honestly need more input from the community on this one.

Binding of Isaac: My biggest concern about a race is how random this game is.

Mega Man X: I know there are a lot of good new runners for this game, but I don't know who is best for the slots currently. Turns out 4 people applied so this was easy.

Mega Man X3: I just need an update on Trogdor and ThatAintFalco's times.

Portal: I talked to Blizik and Noircat and they were both okay with a race.

Pilotwings 64: Obviously Graviton has been practicing the crap out of this, but I don't know how ciyon and Derek Clark are doing.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask: I know that this can't be a race. From what I've gathered from the leaderboard and what people have told me, MajinPhil has a time that is nearly 5 minutes faster than Viva's, and I'm told that the person who is faster is more consistent in Majora's Mask.

If there is a game I missed, then please speak up!
Thread title:
dkc2 in my opinion should be reflected, claude, krauser, dragonballjoseph as they're the top 4 currently. Crismas and myself are both capable players, but we haven't gotten our "runs" yet in terms of a decent pb. Deuceler is also good, just has less time in the game, so his pb isn't where it probably should be. All three of us would be good backups, but the best show would be the four I mentioned.
Keeper of TASBot
For the TASBot block the name TASBot is all that is required - the rest of us mere mortals are just his humble servants. Smiley  In all seriousness, I (dwangoAC) am just the project organizer, tester, and presenter - the list of people involved with the various different elements seems to keep getting longer and they all deserve credit in one form or another.  I did not do a sufficiently good job of honoring everyone who worked so hard for the AGDQ 2014 TASBot block and I've vowed to do a better job of that this year.  That's a bit more difficult this time because we've got nearly a dozen names now and I just don't think everyone's names would fit on the schedule.
At this time, I know for certain that micro500 will be present for the MK64 modified Choco Mountain race, but we don't yet know who the human runners for that race will be and I haven't heard confirmation if Weatherton will be there in person.  The playaround TAS and the total control TAS will both be presented by me but I feel strongly that those behind the effort need to be honored in some way, either with their names in the schedule or with shoutouts during our block.

TL;DR: Other than micro500 and myself I don't honestly have a complete list of names that should be listed on the official schedule as opposed to the list of names we'll give shoutouts to during the stream itself but I will provide updates as soon as I possibly can.  Thanks!
TMR is derusting SCV4 as we speak. We'll have to see what happens I guess.
Professional Shaq Fu Speedrunner
I can answer for 2dos at least concerning Crazy Taxi. He plays on the Dreamcast version.
www.smwwiki.com
For smw, linkdead is coming to the marathon with intention of playing. Unless there is a shortage of players I'd like to back out of the race and give commentary.

That would still leave 6 racers. Not sure if anyone else talked,  everyone is definitely qualified who submitted the game. If no one else backs out the smwwiki leaderboard would probably be best bet to decide the race

For Crazy Taxi, me and chuckles825 both run on the Dreamcast version. I'm aware we're the only Dreamcast runners there, but I believe that there are others bringing their Dreamcasts (need to double check), so we may have backup systems just in case.

We are fine with a race as long as we can get a 3rd person to help commentate.

You can see our race results here. We will be doing a lot more after Thanksgiving: http://www.speedrunslive.com/races/game/#!/crazytaxi/1

Just commenting to confirm what 2dos said. We both run on the Dreamcast, which would be the preferred console choice. I don't see running on the Dreamcast being a problem, but I could also bring Steam or Gamecube copies as a backup.

I am ok with racing and doing commentary while racing, but having a 3rd person for assistance would be preferred. We will definitely be racing a lot more this coming month for practice and improvement.

Just wanted to echo this. I'm the weakest of all those accepted, so look to Crismas or Gari for backups.
what about the minecraft 'runners' ?

http://www.twitch.tv/giantwaffle/profile/past_broadcasts

earlier today there was a 2:12:43 run (estimate is 2 hours)

besides that, the last run i could find a highlight/video of was done in july.

Naegleria they have been getting after it

Oh boy deuceler, I hope they overreact like that at AGDQ, that will be funny!
I was watching their run last night and caught them say this: http://www.twitch.tv/giantwaffle/b/593759141?t=1h56m45s

The chat was constantly making jokes about Minecraft speedrunning as well. This just seems silly to have in a speedrun marathon when the runners themselves don't even think the game is worth speedrunning.
The route they use is really interesting.  Who would have thought the fastest way to find the needed materials was getting lost exploring the pretty caves and lots of chat interaction?  Gotta love the variety of speedtech in this game.
For DKC: Tropical Freeze, we've decided as a community that it should be presented as Michael_Goldfish doing a solo run of the game, with commentary provided by the rest of the Tropical Freeze community attending (Spikevegeta, Ghoul02, Kruncha and Myself.)
My feelings on The Demon Rush
So I completely forgot that MMX is another run I need to sort out runners for, but it turns out 4 people applied so that was pretty easy.

DKC2: Okay, I put down Gari's list of runners on the schedule.

2dos and Chuckles:  We'll be providing most of the consoles. I know I can provide at least one dreamcast. The only reason why I wouldn't provide two is that dreamcast runs are sadly uncommon. Sad

Tropical Freeze: I just confirmed what NotSoNewby said with Spike. Michael Goldfish will be running the game.

Minecraft: As Deuceler pointed out, they're working on it and they're working on a route change that will save more time.

dram55: Yeah I constantly see updated pbs from the runners and they're all very competitive, but the most we can feasibly fit on stream is 4 racers at once.

The video Deuceler linked was about them playing a 'scary' mod and overreacting to jump scares, it contained no speedrunning or routing.

It's quite possible that they are stepping back for a couple hours and relaxing, while still involving themselves in the game. I'm not saying anything about if that's acceptable or not (not my position to judge that, either) but simply pointing out a possible reason for it.
True, but they have no highlights of minecraft speedruns since July.  The last run they did had a time that exceeded the GDQ estimate by 12 minutes (their estimate was from their first run, which is already a bad run).  So if they ARE practicing, they are doing a good job of hiding it.

Just to re-iterate, Mike, I have no idea how you got "They're working on it" from what Deuceler posted, because he pointed out nothing of the sort.

It's possible they've been in private talks with you, and just are forgetting to highlight their runs or whatever. I really hope that's what's going on, because right now, it's not looking pretty.

Worthless categories WR master
I'd like to mention that the concerns I expressed two months ago still stand: while the idea of random seed co-op glitchless is fine for a marathon, the runners are not speedrunners. At first I game them the benefit of the doubt and even defended them against people who said let's players could not speedrun, but it became very clear very quickly that:
1. they are not good to begin with
2. they have no intention to improve
3. they do not take it seriously
4. they have no idea what they're talking about

As a result, this is headed straight into a wall. If they end up doing this at the marathon I expect, speedrun-wise, in terms of quality of content, nothing short of the biggest trainwreck of the year, possibly in history of Games Done Quick if they go over 2:15 (which could very well happen). When I first expressed this I said that if they actually improved and showed care about the quality of their gameplay then I would have no problem, seeing as random seed glitchless seems to be more popular in a marathon setting. However, this is clearly not the case.

Yes, I will admit Minecraft is there because it will likely do well in donations and it will appeal to a wider audience. I am also aware it is not really a game that is run in the speedrunning community. That being said, the two runners involved do get consistently below 2 hours.

I'm kind of wanting to bring this statement back into question.  Frankly, I don't believe the part about "consistently below 2 hours" when they haven't done more than 5 runs ever, and I think I'm being generous about that total.  Piggybacking off Bismuth's comments, these runners are not good at their game, have minimal intentions about getting good, and aren't taking speedrunning seriously. The run as it stands is going to end up more like the Secret of Mana "speedrun" of Classic Games Done Quick, and it might not even be that good.

I still would like to see this in a marathon for the unique ideas involved (adaptability being a favored skill over rote memorization of a route), but only if the runners take it seriously enough to have a solid plan in place instead of the LP-style gameplay we've seen so far.

SPEEDruns not SAFEruns
Sure guys, they aren't the traditional speed runner in the sense that they do runs or practice - but think about all the money they'll be raising! My 12 year old nephew is pretty excited and I'm sure there isn't 2 hours of runs any speed gamers wanted to get in. Echoing what Waffle said in the video posted by billnye_fan, maybe we can just call it "Games Done for Fun." Seems we are headed that way.
Why do I only see posts about the minecraft runners not practicing and not about anybody else who isn't practicing? I don't buy that they're the only ones who aren't practicing.
Because they need to be practicing far far far far more than most runners in the marathon?
