What's up everyone. Been watching speed-runs for a while, thinking about picking up an easy one to learn the basics before deciding on a main game to master. That being said, I check SDA's game list and couldn't find a Sonic Unleashed for the life of me. Is this a viable game to play, it appears long but since there's no "reference run" for me to look at, I don't know where I would start with it. Any ideas?

I'm going to assume you're talking about the 360/PS3 version here... If you're looking for an easy game to run, Sonic Unleashed is noooot a good choice. It's an incredibly broken game with a lot of techniques and glitches that can be rather difficult to pull off. It's actually very deep for IL runs, but it's a terrible game to do single-segment, because SS needs to deal with low-level Werehog, plus you need to collect tons of Sun and Moon medals to unlock all the stages. If you still wanna give it a shot, I suggest checking out some IL runs on TSC and YouTube. KAKIPI1000 did a single-segment a while back in 3:09:14, which can be improved a bit. Link

If you're talking about the Wii/PS2 version, that one I'm not as familiar with, but it's still a good idea to check IL runs on TSC and YouTube to find the most optimal strats. Also, CrypticJacknife is working on a run I believe, there's a thread in the Newer Consoles board where he's been posting about it.

In any case, no matter what you decide to do, welcome to SDA and good luck!
Ah Paraxade, thanks for your input. I definitely didn't mean to sound like I would be starting with Sonic Unleashed haha. I plan to start with a lower caliber game, just to gain my basic skills. After that I planned to find a game I felt more of an interest in actually running competitively. Being a Sonic fan, I planned to do something from Sonic franchise. Its something to think about while I'm learning a speed run. But I digress, thanks for the tips and links. Hopefully I'll see you on stream sometime in the future. Cheers!

http://www.twitch.tv/brokenarthritis does a lot of 360/ps3 unleashed so you can follow and watch him; he has his list of ILs here - http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFAaYdPhoA6vpPfH_8EkwLw
I've only played unleashed casually so I don't really know the route and the skips, but I assume some might be pretty tough knowing sonic games. I would do what kirnymastah says and just sorta practice IL's, that's what I've been doing for SADX
Thanks all for the links! And Orange, I've been watching a lot of Sonic Adventure runs lately and it seems like tons of fun to learn. Definitely will need to practice if I ever wanted to attempt a run though. The game looks terribly broken! Plus I don't know the rules for that particular game either, when the timing starts, ends, how it is timed, what is and is not allowed, etc.
Yea, when you look at it SADX is mess. It seems most of the new games have little tricks to them that are kinda a constant thing.
