Anyways, I'm on break until i can find a new controller. My down button decided to start dying on and off after special stage 6 in my last run... That was real awesome. Anyone that wants to sell me a nice 3-button or similar controller with soft buttons (they have those damn 6 buttons in bargain bins around here, but they blow ass, even if they are new), I'd love to buy it.
Special stage 6 is my favorite, its not that hard... my highest total for that one with tails is 282, 270 without. Beat that.
Ok, so i mistimed on that 18:21 (for some reason, i put in 106 for sky chase instead of 126). I knew it wasn't that good to be low 18's...
I still think sub 18 is possible. I had 2 low 18 runs end today at death egg. I am getting so nervous throughout the runs, i really need to work on relaxing, its so hard to pretend i'm just playing the game when i put together a lot of good levels though...
I also did 2 attempts at an any% today for the hell of it. One was 19:45. Looks like i can improve that some more, so whenever i get both where i want it, we'll have 2 new sonic 2 SS additions.
yeah, safe to say you are on a whole different level now. the thing is, you were kind of already the best, so this is pretty hard to wrap one's head around. nonetheless, i eagerly await said runs.
Yea, looking back, I just see that my skills in this game have improved dramatically since my SS was completed. I thought my casino 2 1:01, hill top 1 :43, and oil ocean 1 :39 were the best i could ever do; now, i'm getting those times on actual runs.
I can't imagine i can improve much more, but i wonder where i'll be in 6 months, unless i stop playing sonic 2 (haha). Of course, I do have a lot of other runs i'd like to do, so i'm not sure i'll ever put this much time into this game again, but i said the same thing after my last run!
Edit: I'm getting closer... And, I completely stopped caring about emerald hill 1. I'm going to start accepting 26 (yes, 4 seconds of error in a 20 second level), mainly because i can gain or lose seconds very very quickly in the super sonic levels, and because i don't feel like playing the same level for 15 minutes anymore. I should have made this decision ages ago, but now i should get a good run out soon (i was soooo close on my last run, but i got trapped in a wall on metro 3 as super sonic and died...).
Edit 2: I'm completely sick of 100%. I want to stop fucking up runs in aquatic, its really pissing me off. I hate that level, it ruins so many runs...
Edit 3: I'm going to try some any% runs... got a good run that i thought was submittable, but it only ended up being 19:32...
Edit 4: 19:22... Suckage in mystic caves 1, the easiest level ever...
Edit 5: Haven't even been able to complete an any% run in 3 days... bleh. Look at the times from this last run that failed... it was absolutely perfect, a dream: EH1: 20 EH2: 38 CP1: 22! CP2: 41 AR1: 23 AR2: 46 CN1: 29! CN2: 1:02 HT1: 43 HT2: 1:04 OO1: 37 OO2: Lose glitch, run over...
Edit 6: I'm pretty good at blowing runs. 19:23... with a fucking 2:22 on wing fort. I was consistently getting 1:55 on that level (bottom route). that is sub 19. I swear I can fucking do it.
Ok, the video doesn't encapture the full rage I felt after this happened to me, so I thought a story would be in order.
Perfectly good attempt going, only mistake was aquatic 2, I think I got 52 or something. I get to oil ocean 2 and am performing awesome, Probably going to get a 54 or 55. I go in the oil for the first hit, jump up for 6 more hits, ok, things are going great! Start up a spindash for the 8th hit (I ran out of invincibility, pretty common), and boom, FRAME OF FUCKING DEATH.
I hate fucking bosses that freeze up the fucking game when you kill them on the goddamn wrong frame. This is about the 10th time a run has been killed by a fucking frame of death. How the fuck can I get so unlucky to get game ending glitches that require frame fucking accuracy? Stupid fucking game!
Well, there are a few parts I'm not happy with, but I am not going to kill myself because of this game, and I don't want to burn myself out so much that I can't do a 100% eventually (this is an any% run):
EH1: 20 EH2: 39 CP1: 22 CP2: 42 (shoulda been 41 if I hit the boss cap correctly) AZ1: 24 AZ2: 52 (missed the jump, got sick of restarting because of it, so ok) CN1: 33 CN2: 1:04 HT1: 41 HT2: 1:05 MC1: 38 MC2: 48 OO1: 47 (First really bad level, I was consistenly getting 40 or so in other attempts. This level caused me to get so pissed that the next 2 levels make up for it.) OO2: 55! Metro 1: 1:06! Metro 2: 1:15 (missed a stupid stupid jump...) Metro 3: 1:46!!! (best level in the run, I've never gotten below 1:55 in an SS) Sky Chase: 2:06 Wf: 1:59 (pretty darn good, bottom route!) Death egg: 52
If my timing is correct, that is 18:54. anyone want to double check that for me?
I think there were honestly only 15 seconds of "big" mistakes, everything else was just random little shit. I'll take that any day when playing this, even if I've had starts up to MC1 that were 5-10 seconds ahead of this.
Just to clarify something, I think the 50 minute estimate may have been in real-time (It's certainly a lot more reasonable that way).
It was, but by using real time, my run is about 24 minutes (if I optimized for real time, it would be around 23 minutes). Thats still half of his initial estimate.
Nate, I'm sending you an email with the torrents now (per mike's instructions).
Nate, I'm sorry to dissapoint, but this is my any% improvement... About 2 weeks ago I got really sick of doing 100% attempts and started attempting any% again. Sorry for the confusion, and I hope you're not let down. 1 minute and 8 second improvement to a run you thought was good can't be too dissapointing I suppose.
I promise promise promise my 100% is next up on my list of runs to do, but the time will be much better (sub-18 ). sub-18 is even harder than sub-19, mainly because I can't restart as much in a short period of time (i.e. the special stages take too fucking long), but I'll get it done for you and I promise it will look good.
Exactly, thats what I figured. Submitting them at one time would have made me too nervous that I would lose one of the runs or something stupid like that.
Now I have a lot of pressure to bring the 100% through and make it just as awesome or even more so (just because the routes are different and somewhat harder it should be good). Hopefully I can make something in this run that no one will want to beat (I can't see anyone lining up for the punishment I'm taking by playing these SFSS [stupid fucking special stages]), but I always love some competition if anyone ever decided to speedrun this.
